When I arrived there were no pickles on the side, I was told they'd been put on the sandwich instead. I politely asked if I could still get one on the side since every in-person order I've had here comes with a garnish pickle as standard. She told me she'd have to charge me for it. A thirty-cent pickle. I had paid cash specifically to avoid their 2.5% "service fee" card surcharge, only to find out the fee applies to all takeout orders regardless of payment method, which was never mentioned when I called. Then when I got home the coleslaw that comes with the sandwich was missing, along with the extra ketchup I'd asked for. I genuinely cannot understand why this was the hill for this server to die on. A polite customer who ate here four times in one week, paid their exorbitant fee without complaint, and politely asked for a pickle that normally comes free with the meal anyway...that's who you're going to nickel and dime? I won't be back, and I won't be recommending this place to my friends and community.

I was (thankfully) early for a train (normally I am running late and have to leap up the station stairs two at a time, sliding between the closing train car doors, slumping into a seat as a sweaty heaving mess... but let's get back to the review, shall we?). I had time to get something to eat and Q&N looked inviting. Spacious, clean, bright with a pretty deep menu, I ordered an egg white wrap * and a large black coffee (I'm a badass**). The coffee was good. Really good. Much better than the average fare. The wrap came out quickly, was wrapped really well -- you can tell these guys care. The wrap was tight with egg along every curve of the spiral. And it was very good, a blank canvas on which I could have put hot sauce, or salsa, but I ate it plain. It was filling and was a solid choice. Oh, and the prices here are very fair and, as far as my repast was concerned, a good value, especially compared to similar fare just a mile south. The store itself has a surprising number of products for purchase and is more than a convenience store. There is a very long hot food steam table, which also has fruit and vegetables (I only have it a cursory inspection). As I like to say, this place is a go! A little background: I was early for my train, and hungry... well, more peckish than hungry. See, I've been trying to lose weight and I walk every morning, and often I take another walk in the afternoon. Each walk is a minimum of four miles, often five or six. Knowing I had to catch a train this morning I only did four, which is a bit disappointing, but my girlfriend always tells me no matter how many miles, what counts is that I'm out there. Needing to get to the train on time, I had to skip breakfast after my walk and threw a snack bar into my bag in case I got hungry on the train. For the record, I don't like eating snack bars. I don't care how "healthy" they claim to be (and this was an Rx bar, which doesn't have an added sugar), they metabolize pretty quickly and can spike one's blood sugar. Which is to say I wish I had something else to eat. That's why I was so happy to find Q & N. Real quick, I forgot to tell you, when I was out walking (I walk along the river in Riverside Park) I saw a guy catch two sharks. Bull sharks. The ones that bite people. One was around 20 pounds, the other at least 30. I saw someone else catch four sharks in a 20 minute period. The sharks are out this summer, so if you ask me, those guys who kayak in the Hudson are just tempting fate. When I asked the fisherman said he doesn't eat the sharks, but the Chinese fisherman a few poles away does. "I give him the sharks, and he'll trade me a striper when he has one." The Chinese fisherman hadn't caught any stripers yet, but I was assured that they usually come out in the afternoon. *I got the egg white wrap because I'm trying to lose weight and watch my blood sugar. Sure, I should have probably gotten just some scrambled egg whites, but I was looking for a format I could take on the train, so getting a wrap might have been a net zero with regard to my dietary goals. **I normally drink my coffee black, and this coffee was good, but it was hot and I couldn't leisurely sip it, so I asked for some milk (they only had whole, or soy and almond and... I took whole) and they counter guy suggested some ice cubes as well. Like I said, they are friendly and helpful.
