I have been living with a chronic disabling condition for a number of years now. I used to be able "to take care of myself" pretty well and now, with humility, I've had to accept that I can't. A simple phone call to LA Intelligence is like stepping into a time portal to Film Noir. You immediately sense that Detective Mathews has seen it all. But beneath his gruff voice, lies a heart with compassion. The experience alone is worth the price of admission. I initially dismissed hiring a private detective for my small claims case as I thought it would simply be too expensive. LA Intelligence charges more than a process server because the intel that he provides can make or break your case. As an example, I was advised by the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs Small Claims Advisor Service (a mouthful of a name!) to serve the defendant a document requesting his appearance at a hearing to disclose his assets. Detective Mathews informed me that not only is it a waste of time as you're not in front of a judge so the defendant will outright lie, but by serving them you're essentially warning the defendant to hide their assets. Mathews' keen advice is spot-on and practical. Detective Mathews genuinely cared about my case. On the multiple occasions that I've called, my calls were at least 45 minutes in length. Do not expect a five minute conversation when calling. Mathews takes his time to explore numerous options. At times, Mathews will ramble about a tale in his storied past, but pay attention, there are nuggets of gold in there that apply to your situation. We live in the age of information where knowledge is power, and we assume we can get everything through Google for free. Don't waste your time with the shady online background check companies that unscrupulously autocharge your credit card. Mathews has info sources not available to civilians. I was stuck in an arbitration where I knew the Judge was in collusion with the attorney that I was suing. Every ruling that the Judge was giving was against me and for this attorney that I was in a lawsuit with. In desperation I contacted Brian and discussed my situation. We devised a plan to have one of his associates to go in to this attorney's office and act as a possible client which was looking for a high powered attorney that has connections with judges. While perusing eBay from my home in New York, I found a car I really wanted in Los Angeles. The price was excellent but, after speaking to the seller and finding out that he was not taking deposits, just full payment, I became suspicious. Being a retired police sergeant myself, I figured a private investigator might be able to handle looking at the car. After a google search, I found Brian's number at LA Intelligence and gave them a call at 1 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon. My call was met with a professional, can do, attitude. I gave Brian the information on the seller and the location of the car and within one hour I received photographs of the location and notification that there was no car at the location. Thank you Brian! What a wonderful and knowledgable man. He answered my frantic call and gave me sound advice how to handle my situation. Here is what happened: Someone stole one of my checks and for no cost whatsoever to me, Brian helped me troubleshoot all of the possible scenarios as to what may have have happened and how I could deal with it. I sent him the cancelled check via email as we were speaking on the phone and he looked at it closely and helped me analyze it. He knew within moments that the check had not been checked at a cash checking place and that it had been deposited into a personal account. Brian also said that I had a couple of options - confront the person(s) I suspected had done it and/or file a police report. I ended up doing both. He suggested I mitigate risk by canceling my checks, closing my checking account, changing my locks and my home security pass code. I did everything he suggested. The police have yet to call me back with the result of my police report, however, I finally have closure on this case today. My good friend also had several checks stolen from her and it turns out that it is the same person who had stolen my check. The person did so when I was visiting my friend - thief actually stole the check directly out of my purse! As I've written in my previous reviews, I have used LA Intelligence multiple times to help me gather information on an individual that I needed to have served. Since Brian only handles difficult serves, I initially used a regular process server to track down the individual with the information that Brian provided. It turned out, however, that the individual was evading service and the regular process server was unsuccessful in their multiple attempts to serve this individual, which spanned over many months. This resulted in me having to extend multiple times the court date in order to comply with the rules of service. Knowing at that point that a regular process server would not suffice, I once again turned to Brian. Within 48 hours of taking on this assignment, Brian cleverly figured out a way to get him served.
