This is my favorite restaurant in Tijuana. I have to be careful or I will eat too much. The Queso…read moreVaquero could be a meal in itself. It is rich melted cheese with chorizo served with tortillas. My other favorite appetizer is Cecina de Venado which is a sort of venison jerky. Don't expect the tough jerky you get at gas stations. No, this venison jerky is full of flavor and isn't completely dry. For the main meal I order the Parrilladas. Which comes with several sides. First is a cup of caldo de res, which is a beef stock soup. A salad, chips, salsa, a quesidilla and a bowl for pickled carrots, potatoes, onions and liver. The meat comes served on a hibachi like grill, still cooking the meat. You can choose three different meat combinations. The original which is ribs, carne asada and tripes. Next is the Silvestre which is venison, quail and goat. Lastly is the Vaquero which is sirloin, chicken breast and chorizo. The quail was spiced to mellow out the gamey flavor. It was excellent. For dessert, I ate a coyota, a sugar cookie filled with a brown sugar mixture. This is not like an American sugar cookie as a coyota is not that sweet. On hot days, I get a lime michelada with Sol and is light and refreshing. So if you want a real cowboy experience I highly recommend this restaurant. The decor is John Wayne, John Wayne and taxidermy. The waitors are fantastic. They brought me a chair without arms so that my rear wasn't squeezed into the regular chairs.

This place reminds me of hometown buffet but just a tad bit better. For the amount of money it cost it ain't all that bad!! I enjoyed the Mongolian beef station and the sushi bar for sure and the grilled chicken as well that they make right there in front of you on the grill. I was a little skeptical to try the sushi section at first but glad that they roll it in front of everyone. As far as dessert goes, I only tried the brownies which tasted great and chocolate chip cookies which were average. Don't come here and expect to get Las Vegas type of buffet. You definitely get "good average food" for a great price especially during lunch time hours. A little over $35 for 2 people for lunch for a full buffet. Employees were great to me for the most part!

We were celebrating my mother's birthday and arrived around 2:29 PM. The restaurant was busy with many senior customers, the buffet offered a wide variety of food, and it seemed like it would be a wonderful afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience took a very upsetting turn. While we were eating, a manager or owner approached our table and, in a loud voice, accused my elderly mother of serving herself lemonade from the beverage machine without paying. My mother calmly explained that she had only filled her cup with water and squeezed fresh lemon slices into it. Instead of quietly resolving the misunderstanding, the manager brought over cups containing lemonade and continued insisting that my mother had taken lemonade from the machine. This created an embarrassing scene in front of our entire table and nearby guests. I respectfully asked if we could step aside and discuss the matter privately, explaining that we were not trying to take anything without paying. I also mentioned that my parents are longtime customers and that this was my first visit. Unfortunately, the conversation remained confrontational, and I left feeling that the situation could have been handled with much more professionalism and compassion. The experience was especially difficult because my parents are elderly. My 87-year-old father became extremely distressed, and what should have been a joyful birthday celebration for my mother turned into an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience for everyone at our table. The buffet offers plenty of food choices, but after being publicly confronted and embarrassed, it's hard to enjoy a meal. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially senior citizens. If there is ever a concern, it should be addressed discreetly and professionally rather than through a public accusation. I sincerely hope management reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future so that no other family has to experience what ours did.

The Zona Rio location has a small dining area, that is very popular with both the locals and visitors. It is easy to see why. Their menu does not over dose on the standard morning and afternoon items that you would find anyplace. However, this is the first restaurant I've been to in Tijuana, that does not have an English menu.... so I had to labor through the Spanish menu. But, they do have unique dishes, thus making the visit adventurous, because it is difficult to choose. I went back and forth, and finally settled for their 3-egg omelet with asparagus and sheep cheese. It came with refried beans, strings of carrots and beets, small fired up tostadas and fresh tortillas (both blue and yellow corn). A small side of soggy chilaquiles was also served. A small flavorful salsa tray is also provided with 3 options, ranging from mild to hot. The asparagus spears were thin, cut up into small pieces and sautéed with mild spices. The outer egg covering soft and not overdone. If anything, there was too much sheep cheese, in certain portions of the omelet. I say this because it was an asparagus omelet, and it, instead of the cheese, should have been the star. Still, it did not take away from the other commendable aspects of the complete entree and its accompaniments. Before the meal, a small refreshing fruit plate is served. Coffee and overall service here, was mucho excellente.

The food, ambiance, and service was great. There was also about 30 minutes of live music by a duo performing son jarocho. Not sure if that's the proper phrasing but it was a nice treat.
