This Arthur Ave spot…read moreis your answer for ice cream, Zeppoles, Churros (yeah...those too) and of course- Italian Icee. Hubs and I had the most decadent Lemon Italian Icee at an old-time pizzeria in Brooklyn not long ago. Since then, they've been our trustworthy blueprint for Lemon Icee. Gene Bean's located inside the Arthur Avenue Retail Market and came up as "Ice Cream and Sorbet"- offering other sweet treats too. A big check mark for these guys because these Zeppoles are fresh and fried on the spot- but were heavy and thick- missing that true, light feel. Our Italian Icee experience was decent though. When everything was said and done, popping the trunk to enjoy our treats, was a nice ending in Little Italy at night.

The cups for the scoops didn't have lids that fit, so I ended up tying individual plastic bags around each and hoping it would work. It ended up a melted mess puddle inside each bag and not in the cups. The flavors were fine, not too much variety, but one plus was their in house affogato was excellent. Though again, the staff seemed confused how to make it and kept asking me which ice cream flavor and how many espresso shots. I'd go back for an affogato in the future, in house only.

I was stuffed but needed something sweet and water ice is a favorite so I couldn't and didn't resist. It sits next to a pretty popular pizza shop - Louie and Ernie's so I'm sure they get a lot of traffic. It was busy while we were there and while I only had the ice, I would go back for it. It hit the spot and the service was quick and friendly. Several options for sizes displayed for ease of ordering and while I didn't take the time in the crowded store to peruse there appeared to be quite a variety of cookies and chocolates available as well.

This place stands out as this bright pink beacon below the tracks. On entry you're greeted by colorful pastries and cakes encased in light up glass cases like jewelry. It is a little tight to sit inside for parties bigger than two, but that's because it's pretty busy. The Coffee was excellent. No need to add sugar. It just tastes perfect with that cinimon that Dominican coffee is known for. The Tres Golpes was excellent, as was every other course my wife threw at me. The only thing to last long enough to be photographed was the Chimi, and my desert. The staff was very pleasant, outgoing, and surprisingly attentive for such a busy place. I'd go back.

I, too, was fooled by Instagram. We discovered this place the same way most people do -- through…read morethe cute, trendy desserts that look great online. I also wanted to support a local business. So my husband made the journey across town and brought home a few treats from Happy Cake, including a chocolate coffee dessert shaped like a Starbucks cup with a chocolate lid. When my daughter popped the chocolate lid off to eat it, we found mold growing inside the dessert. This is absolutely unacceptable for any food business -- I don't care if it's "my people" or not. For context, we bought the dessert on Sunday and discovered the mold on Monday. Fresh, properly stored desserts do not grow visible mold overnight. That means this item was already old, improperly stored, or handled without proper food safety standards. None of those possibilities are okay, especially when the dessert was meant for a child. We didn't bother driving all the way back to the store -- it's too far -- but we threw out that dessert and every other treat we bought immediately. I'm just grateful my daughter didn't take a bite first. I cannot trust the freshness or safety of their products and will not be buying anything from Happy Cake again. And if anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I'm posting a photo so you can see exactly what we found.

However, it's close to both the 15 and 6 bus on 163 and 3rd Ave. The location looked closed from a distance but as we got closer we were relieved to see it was open. The gentleman working the register was nice and helpful. I saw online the prices for the 1/2 gallon were $7 but it's now $8. We bought 3 flavors-Cherry, Rainbow & Pineapple Lime. I just tried the cherry and it's phenomenal. They are cash only or Zelle, my husband paid via Zelle. Still a steal. My favorite part is that they put the ingredient list on each of the 1/2 gallon packaging. My son loves icys but after having an allergic reaction from a seller at a coquito cart, he doesn't feel safe having them from anyone anymore. My son is very allergic to Dairy and that particular person had icys and ice cream in their cart so there was definitely cross contamination with the ice cream and icys. Being able to now come to this location and pick it up for him safely is now a great option for my family. I'll def be back!! They are opened 9-4pm m-f by the way!

This is Located on St. Ann's Ave near 163rd st. At first glance the place looked closed since I saw the gates down but the front door was wide open. There was a gentleman behind a counter and he was very nice and polite. He told my wife and I to take a look at the menu and that they take cash only or Zelle for payment. There was a sign with a QR code for the Zelle payment which was convenient because I didn't have enough cash for what I wanted from the extended menu that was there. I had no clue that there was so many flavors of this icee that I ate for years. Easily over 20 different options. I walked out with a 1/2 gallon of cherry flavor, rainbow flavor and pineapple lime and only paid $24. Each 1/2 gallon was $8. I am definitely revisiting this place especially throughout the summer because Delicioso Coco Helado is a summer NY staple.
