There are several places to fulfill your Mexican food cravings in Lexington, NE. Most are very…read moreaccessible and easy to get to, right on the main drag into and out of town. I have been to them all, several times in fact and I am here to tell you that none of them compare to Lo Mejor De Michoacan. None of them come close in fact. Do not let the outside fool you, do not let the tiny awkward parking lot fool you. It is what's inside that sets this small "Mom & Pop shop" apart. The first thing that I notice each time is how good it smells as soon as the door opens. It smells good, it smells like pork, and steak and fresh tortillas too. It is also very clean. It seems to me that this is a small family ran business, the same people greet me each time and are always super warm and welcoming. It is obvious they care and want to give you good service along with delicious food. I have taken my food to go and I have also sat down and I will say that there isn't any difference in the portion or the quality of the food. I have a hard time getting past the Carnitas each time I have been. The pork is tender and it tastes delicious consistently. The beans aren't from a can, I am willing to bet that the food here is all homemade. It tastes far too good to be from a can or a package. The tortillas are not warm, they are HOT when they get to your table, they taste so good. In my opinion they are the very best in town. The service is great too, the folks here keep the food coming and the drinks are always full, they are very polite and make your you want to come back again. If you are on the interstate looking for a place to eat, do yourself a favor, cruise into town go past the fast food and the other restaurants. It will be worth it. I can not wait to eat here again.

After I took it all in, I ordered a Carnita plate to go.. I was the only customer there, but there were several children running around. My to go order took longer than I expected. I was surprised at the small portion. I was surprised at the less than hot or warm pork. The folks there are friendly and welcoming. Maybe they were having a bad day? Regardless, I will pass on Los Jalapenos.

The chile relleno was so deliciously fried. Not a thick gunky batter, but light and crispy with a deliciously mellow pepper and tons of perfectly melted cheese. The taco shell had just been fried in the kitchen and was filled with tender chucks of beef. No ground beef here. My daughter wanted queso fundido with chorizo just like On The Border. The waiter was so understanding as she ordered something that he probably considered an abomination. But despite the language barrier he brought exactly what she wanted. The service was friendly, accomodating and I suspect highly entertained by how non-Mexican we were! Not a luxurious place, but you won't find more authentic Mexican!

And it was good! I had the Guadalajara Tacos plate and a side of guacamole. The guacamole was disappointing as it turned out to be the pre-manufactured out of the bag kind (tasted like it) but the tacos were good, other than the two pieces of gristle that I bit into.
