Los Magueyes - Taco Salad Rnachero - Mexican Near Me - Kearney, Nebraska

Waitress was friendly. Salsa was basically watered tomato sauce. My husband enchiladas alcapulco - they were small and the shrimp was minascule. My friend ordered something she had there before and had them put it in her phone so she remembered what to get the next time. Well, it was completely different this time. We ordered two meals to go. Asked for the chips and salsa for the to go orders and was told we would have to pay extra for it. Why can I get chips and dip at no extra charge eating in but charge extra for my to-go meals????? Will not be back ... read more

A late departure from Denver on our way to Chicago had us overnighting in Kearney. Thanks to the Yelp community we found ourselves at Los Magueyes at dinner time. Service was swift and friendly. We started with enormous (think "bucket") Margaritas and delicious guacamole. We moved onto the Nachos Rancheros, an enormous serving of crispy chips topped with grilled chicken, steak, shrimp and chorizo along with sautéed peppers, onions, tomatoes and pico de gallo. This epic appetizer bested us--we were packed! 5/5 read more

Very good place to eat and have a awesome Michelada. Service was great. Food was great. Atmosphere was great

A definite language barrier, including spanish receipt. My burrito was steak and not chicken but since the communication was difficult I kept it. It was good, but I won't return or recommend. It was a quiet restaurant with plenty of space for a group, no outside seating, located off of I80. read more

Restaurant was near the motel. Never had Neb-Mex before. I would not call it tex-mex as we lived in Texas recently. I like spinach and chicken enchiladas so I ordered the Enchiladas Jalisco. The chicken was much better than the two anemicly filled spinach enchiladas. They had more red pepper (strange) and hardly any spinach. Rice and beans were ok. My wife had the taco salad with ground beef. She said, "not the best and not the worst. She did say the sour cream had a weird texture to it. The service was fast and the server was polite. $33 including tip. read more

True hole in the wall Mexican! The customer service was friendly and warm. Their menu was quite extensive but I chose off their very reasonable priced lunch menu. The restroom was clean, and the building is well kept for its age. The fajitas were very tasty and the portion was very generous. The chips are very thin, if that's your style. I personally prefer thick and salty. The salsa was a mild style that's not containing smoked tomatoes. Many locals were there as I entered, being a great indicator this is probably the best or one of best restaurants in town. Lastly, the service is professional and very prompt. They're very efficient in running the restaurant and ensure guests are attended to. Highly recommend for anyone driving through looking for Mexican. read more

We went here on a whim - honestly not knowing what to expect since we had never been to Kearney before. The restaurant is like most traditionally named Mexican restaurants which has booths and tables along with a small bar in the back. Looking over the menu, it was fairly similar to what you might expect, I didn't really see anything that stood out and I didn't know exactly what I wanted to eat. Then I noticed a picture of what appeared to be an extra wide taco that looked quite appealing. It was pictured in the section of taco salads which they had a few variations of. They had a fajita taco salad and a combination taco salad which was grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp with veggies in a giant fried burrito shell that was in the shape of a taco. My wife got the chile verde with chicken. Both of our meals were top notch! The meat was cooked perfectly which came out tender and well seasoned. The chile verde was delicious and flavors were bold which we like! Our server was very good and service was fast! We are debating on whether we are going to go back for lunch today it was THAT good! read more

I really like their salsa to start the meal. My normal go to is their lunch combo Fajitas. It's a good sized portion and is far less in price than the competition. Tons of flavor and comes with a pineapple slice. Excellent value and great taste. It always satisfies a hungry stomach. read more

Very prompt and accurate service. Good iced tea, which I'm always on the lookout for. It's a bit dark inside, with dark decor, but that's less a problem than an interesting feature. I tried their version of my favorite dish from another place in Kearney, and while they didn't unseat my favorite, it did hit the spot for me! Prices are great, serving sizes are quite reasonable. read more

Such a cute place for tasty Mexican food! The service was quick and attentive. The margaritas were tasty but their menu could use better info on sizing & pricing for them. They started by bringing us chips and salsa that came in a mini carafe - love it! We came here because they had a dedicated vegetarian section on their menu and both meals we chose were delicious! My partner got the combo vegetarian dish that came with Chile relleno and they wish it wasn't fried but they still enjoyed the dish. Overall, good food and great service with a full bar and free chips and salsa! read more

The place doesn't look like much outside , but when you get inside you will find a very clean restaurant with a lot of smiling faces. Service was top notch and the food is simply amazing. I enjoyed the Colorado burritos (pork) I asked for a hotter salsa then the regular stuff they bring out, let's put it this way, my nose is running as I write this. Very good but very hot. I will be back when visiting Kearney. read more

I give it 3.5 stars. The food is descent and the restaurant is very clean, and the service was fast and friendly. We were driving through and didn't want junk food. My kid had the fajita nachos and I had an enchilada and a taco. The chips and salsa are also good. Overall, for the middle of Nebraska where there is so much fast food we were pleased to have a pretty good on the road meal. It was also not expensive, I think it was about $30 including a 20% tip. read more

Good service, good salsa, good Mexican food. We would go back again. The only thing that could have been better was a chunkier salsa.

What? Authentic Mexican food in Kearney, Nebraska? Yep, I'm from California and can vouch for it at Los Magueyes. I walked into the restaurant for dinner last night and heard the lovely voice of Anna Gabriel singing a Mariachi song and said to myself, "this is a good sign". You can also tell a good Mexican restaurant by the chips and salsa they serve too. The chips are homemade and so is the salsa. The salsa is blended and had just enough kick to it. I would like to see some salsa made mocajete style (hint to the owners). My enchiladas verde style were delicious. I will be back for sure to try additional entrees. read more

Stopped in this restaurant because of great reviews & discovered they are well earned! I had a combination plate w Chile Relleno, shredded chicken enchilada w salsa verde, rice & refritos. Everything was delicious! The Chile Relleno was very good. But the stand out dish was their Chicken Soup. Mexican Chicken Soup is highly under known and under rated. And the lady hidden back in their kitchen creating this particular elixir of the gods is a precious gem! This was THE most delicious chicken soup I've ever had! Do not pass it by! read more

Passing through Kearney and stopped for dinner. We had their combo plate and a Daquiri Rumchata and carnitas and horchata. Restaurant was nice and clean. Food was good. Their Rumchata was a delicious rummy drink that also served as my dessert The waiter was nice and attentive. Their chips and salsa were especially good. The chips were light and not oily. Stopped in for dinner while out of town. Overall Los Magueyes came across as the typical Americanized Mexican restaurant. They do offer free chips and salsa and they are decent. I ordered the Carnitas plate and it was your very run of the mill beans and rice with pork and some veggies. I requested corn tortillas and was given flour, oh well they were ok. The meat was very dry and over cooked with several bones in it but had good flavor. The prices are very cheap for a lot of food which always leaves me questioning the quality of what I'm eating. Overall it was decent but definitely not a place I'd want to eat often. read more

RJ and myself here for lunch today. We had a variety for food and Mexico CocaCola. All was real good.

The server had attitude and we were the only one in place, food was below average, but the environment wasn't bad. With that being said I wouldn't recommend Los Magueyes. read more

Walking in you are greeted by a nice clown gum ball machine in the first door which is funny and attractive. Then you walk into a nice little Mexican restaurant with a cool picture of a cow (a great addition to piss of the vegans). We sat at a booth which had a little wobbly bench but it was okay my butt wasn't sore . The waitress was very nice. Then the salsa came. It was pretty mid. It wasn't very spicy but the cool thing is you all get different salsa bowls so that's pretty lit. You don't have any weird people double dipping. To begin we ordered horchatas. They tasted very good, probably the best in Kearney although I've never been to any other Mexican restaurants in Kearney. As I drank the horchata and the cow stared back at me I went into a trance thinking about that little clown gum ball machine in the front. When I woke back I had somehow already ordered the combo plate with enchilada, taco, rice and beans. While the other two people I was with ordered some more tacos and the chicken soup which is supposed to be the most gas thing here fam. The enchilada was pretty mid but the taco was amazing, made me want to throw it up and eat it again. Idk what cheese they put on it but serve me a bucket of that stuff. The two weird people happen to be with said the soup was great and they would get it again. When I left I looked back at that sexy gum ball machine one more time before leaving with tears of happiness for how well my experience was. If you are in Kearney I half suggest this place. It's pretty good. read more

We loved the molcajete with at least eight grilled items in it. It was large enough for the two of us to share.

We can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The service was A+ and so was the food. I wish this restaurant was in our hometown because we would eat here all the time! Nice casual atmosphere. For drinks we had margaritas and sangria and they were terrific. No generic drink mixes used. Thank you to our lovely server. She was the best. read more

Ate here last night, Saturday. In celebration of their 2nd anniversary, a sign on the wall indicated it was their second anniversary, and they were having live music. Not an understatement. Six musicians in full uniform were working the room in complete classical uniforms, white with beautiful embroidered uniforms. A great experience. My wife ordered shrimp fajitas, made to her particular dietary needs. I had Chile Verde enchiladas, also well prepared and delicious. Both came out fast and hot. Food was delicious and very fast, atmosphere was festive, service was great. We enjoyed it immensely. Bravo! read more

When traveling we always stop at local joints. Thanks to Yelp we have very few bad experiences (although those always make good memories). Los Magueyes did not disappoint. The restaurant is far from the highway and close to lots of the hotels which is a plus when you have been driving all day. The menu was huge. My husband tried a spicy pork dish that he really enjoyed and I had a grilled chicken breast with chorizo and melted cheese. We both loved our food. The service was wonderful as well. The food came out fast. I was kind of tired and was pleasantly surprised with the speed of the service. The only negative, was my husband had a margarita and that tasted like it was poured out of a pre-made bottle but we were there for the food and it did not disappoint. Definitely will stop again when driving through Nebraska. read more
