La Garconniere is a small, family run bed and breakfast centrally located in Salerno. The building was under construction when we were there, so there was some dust and it was a little noisy during the day, but it did not bother us. Also, you have to climb a couple flights of stairs to the rooms, and I did not see an elevator.
The rooms were comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. We were traveling with some friends, and we had two bedrooms next to each other. Both had bathrooms that were across the hall. This was really no problem for us because we all knew each other, but some people may not like the idea of crossing paths with strangers in the night.
Breakfast is served by the family in a dining room -- yogurt, cereal, meat, cheese, pastries, juice and coffee. The owner would usually make an appearance around breakfast time to say hello. He did not speak English, and we did not speak Italian very well, but they really make an effort. His wife and daughters were often around, and the daughters were great translators during check-in, check-out, and answered many questions for us. We stayed in Salerno towards the end of a couple weeks traveling throughout Italy, and we actually liked the fact that many people did not speak English and we were forced to struggle with some Italian.
Overall, I highly recommend both Salerno and La Garconniere for a visit to Italy's Amalfi Coast. read more
