Our travel agent selected this location for us. We stayed during peak season (June/July 2019). We were in room 505.
Room 505 has a "king" bed (two twin mattresses on a king frame). The room is tiled flooring. The furnishings are modest. The view is absolutely spectacular. One of the most important things to me is the A/C and the one in this room worked like a charm. We were in various hotels throughout Italy for two weeks and this one had one of the the best A/C's on the trip. Granted, I live in the Houston metroplex so we know how to survive the heat with A/C. The A/C in this room is worth an additional star all by itself.
The vast majority of hotels in Italy do not supply washcloths. This one is no different. They do not have them. They only supply bath towels and hand towels. This hotel also supplies bidet towels. The bidet in room 505 did not work all that well. I did like the shower in this room. It was the only hotel in our two weeks in Italy that had a fully enclosed shower. We took fairly cool-to-luke-warm showers only because of the oppressive heat outside. The water would get much hotter than we needed it.
The staff at the front desk was very helpful. The cleaning staff was prompt during the day while we were out. This hotel still uses keys which come on a very large and heavy key chain. They will hold your key for you at the front desk if you do not want to haul it around Positano all day while climbing the hundreds of stairs. As a side note, the key chains are very ornate. The staff told me they have a problem with people stealing the key chains as souvenirs. Seriously, people?!?!?!
There is a bus stop literally within yards of the front door of this hotel. You cannot buy bus passes at this stop but if you already have your pass, you can get on/off at the hotel. We never utilized it. We chose instead to walk the roads and stairs. It helped up burn off all of the excess pasta calories.
Hotel Posa Posa is located about 1/2 way up the mountain. You can use Google maps to find the quickest "walking only" paths to get to where you are going. According to Google, the average flight of stairs is around 13-14 steps. According to my Garmin, we climbed 25 flights of stairs from both of the beaches we went to. You can also reach the main beach by road. It's not as steep as the stairs but a longer walk. It really depends on your fitness level. We did both. Be extra careful walking along the roads. There is no sidewalk.
Hotel Posa Posa is also home to the Mirage Ristorante. Breakfast was included with our stay at this restaurant. We also ate lunch here one day (read that review separately). The breakfast buffet was the standard Italian hotel buffet consisting of fresh deli meats, cheeses, pastries, boiled eggs, juices, expressos and/or cappuccinos. It is better than the standard free continental breakfast you may get in American hotels.
This was one of the only hotels we stayed in that had a pool on the rooftop. It's not large by any stretch. It's the older style liner pool that was popular in the 70's. It's small but felt good after spending all day in the heat. Pool towels are provided by the front desk only if you ask. They delivered them to our room promptly both times we asked for them.
I did post a couple of videos and quite a few photos of our hotel room. We enjoyed our stay here.
Bottom line - The view is spectacular and the hotel is nice. It's not the nicest I've ever stayed in but it is far from the worst. Very friendly staff throughout the hotel. The pool was an extra value at the end of a hot day. I would stay here again. read more
