I will tell you that if we had drank more going to the bathroom, would've been a harrowing experience as the bathroom is located upstairs up a very narrow, steep stairwell. The pappardelle was a highlight--big, silky noodles tossed with mushrooms that actually tasted like mushrooms, not just something from a can. The flavors were earthy and balanced, and you could tell everything was cooked to order. Service was relaxed and friendly, which fit the mood of the place. However, it was slow given there was only two people working. It's the kind of restaurant where you can take your time and actually talk to whoever you're with.

I was there when there was a big tour group around, so an employee came out to give a summary of the process and engage the audience a bit. In the main shop area, you can sample the different Gouda cheeses. Not sure how sanitary they were because it was just left out in the open (self-serve samples).
