We arrived in Utrecht a bit late in the day and got settled in our Airbnb around 10pm or 22:00. The family was hungry, after the long drive from Paris, and with picky eaters we walked to a place close by that said was open on yelp, but was actually closed.
We started walking around, but noted that most restaurants here close at 10, the non bar family friendly types I mean. It was also a Tuesday, so I get closing early. We held out hope we'd find a place, and we saw O'Pannuozo. Napolitano pizza yes please. We walked in because we saw people eating, but was like 10:10pm, we asked and the employee told us they were closed. We understood and were leaving when we bumped into the owner hanging outside, waiting to close down. He heard us speaking in Spanish and proceeded to engage us in a mix of Spanish and Italian, but All was understood perfectly. He told us "you wanna eat, I will cook for you. It's my place. Come in I came make quickly". We didn't want to impose as they were closing, but he insisted. It was very Italian of him to insist and feed us. Well, needless to say he made us two amazing pizzas. Originally we were gonna take away, but he insisted we eat there, not to worry. We had our meal and he sat down and engaged with us in conversation about travel, him hometown of Napoli, and his wishes to visit other places. It was a very welcoming experience. This man took care of my family and fed us when we expected to go back and have dinner of leftover croissants and baguettes. Again, he fed us and this is one of the best ways a person can take care of others. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to this man. Also when it came time to pay the bill, he only has cc machine for Maestro cards not all credit cards, and I didn't have enough cash to cover the bill. He told us where the nearest atm was and allowed us to all go get the money in a very trusting fashion. We went, got money and came back and he wanted to take leas than the bill. That I didn't allow and gave him more than the actual bill was to appreciate his and his staffs kindness to my family.
If you are ever in Utrecht, run don't walk to O'Pannuozo. They'll take great care of you and the pizza is pretty spectacular. You won't regret it. read more
