Came here during a hurricane-like night with a friend thinking that nobody would seek refuge in an Italian restaurant equipped with a wood oven. Pro tip: This place is busy no matter what the Buienradar says! This place was packed and silly me, I didn't show up with a reservation but the bartender was kind enough to take my name down and said come back in 45 mins. So 45 mins later, my friend and I were seated and ordered right away. We were lucky to snag a spot near the back of the restaurant with a clear view of the wood oven in action. Such a thing of beauty. I had the diavola and the salami was decent spice level. The crust was lightly browned but not burnt. Just perfect. Probably one of the best (if not the best) pizza in AMS. There I said it! A couple of pies and a couple beers later, the damage was around 20 euro pp. Not bad for a great meal on a cold, windy, wet, night. But fear not, this place is all-season: During the summer, they have a pretty large patio space directly in front of the restaurant beside the sidewalk. read more

A wood-burning stove with real Italians?! Could it be?? This place is great. The mixed appetizers are delicious, with home-made buffalo mozarella and other assorted tastiness. First impression - holy crap this place gets crowded...so much so that there's no place to move. You can also forget about getting any amount of conversational privacy as the tables are VERY close together, but I guess that makes sense if you really want to be a profitable restaurant and serve quality food at the same time. Now the details. Went here on a fine Friday evening after happy hour drinks with great company. The staff of 3-4 seemed quite overwhelmed with the sheer number of people present. The acoustics actually resembled those of a farmer's market. The service seemed quick and personable. The food - not great, but matched the price point. I heard elsewhere that Fuoco Vivo specialized in good pizzas. After ordering one, I have to say that I wasn't that impressed. I have had better pizza right here in the city at a much lower price point. One of the points I focus on when eating out is the overall experience. I have to say that the experience was sub-par. From the little toilets right in the center of the restaurant to the extremely loud ambience, everything asked me to eat my food and get out as soon as possible. Maybe, it was just because of the impending weekend that my experience was so poor, so I am willing to give it a second shot. read more

Good god. That was amazing pizza. Seriously. And the wine was super cheap (and good). We walked in at about 7pm on a Friday night, and it was pretty much full. I silently cursed myself for not thinking to make a reservation, but when the server asked if we had one I acted like it was not big D that we didn't. The quickest flash of "seriously?!" passed his features (I can't even fault him for it either) before he smiled and led us to a tiny table - right in front of the kitchen door and close enough to fellow diners to hear literally every word they said. No complaints here: just gimme pizza. And gimme they did. I ordered the night's special and a glass of red wine - seriously, they have it listed as red or white or rose, no names, no regions. For less than €3.80 and it was GREAT. Pizza came out quickly and it was incredible. Sourdough crust was perfectly cooked by the wood fired ovens, it was a good size (I couldn't finish it) and that chili oil was just ... indescribable. Like really light and slightly citrusy maybe? The pizzas run from €11 to €16 but are definitely sharable, especially if you plan to get a starter or dessert. I'm super grateful that guy found a table for us, this pizza is probably in my top five of my life. read more

We went into this place because we couldn't find anywhere else to eat and we were getting hungry. At first I was disappointed that I came to Amsterdam only to have a pizza dinner. Boy was I surprised. The service was great. Very friendly and courteous, young Italian waiters. And the pizza... I've never been to Italy, but I suspect that this is the closest you could come without being there to having a true Italian rustic pizza. Everything was incredible, from the sauce to the large mozzarella slices on the pizza we ordered. Finally, there's dessert. Bar none, the BEST tiramisu I've ever had anywhere. Don't leave without ordering one. Or two. We ended up having to take a couple of slices home, mostly because we wanted to eat it again later when were in our room. We stopped into a local market and the clerk noticed our pizza box. He asked if this was the first time we had ever eaten there. We said yes, and he said, in his opinion, Fuoco Vivo was the best pizza in Amsterdam. I don't know if that's true, but you'd have a hard time convincing me to NOT go there for pizza the next time we're in town. read more

Yet another pizza place in Amsterdam that doesn't know how to do the crust right. I had high hopes for this place after I told a food blogger that I didn't enjoy the crust at La Perla and Pizzabakkers despite the really great ingredients. She recommended Fuoco Vivo, but the crust is the same throughout the best pizza places in Amsterdam. At first, when the pizza came out, the crust was toasty and chewy but 5 minutes in, as the crust starts to cool down, it becomes less soft. A proper pizza crust should be able to maintain its chew whether it's warm or cool. Nonetheless, the taste of the crust is good so at least there's that. I got two pizzas: the Bufalini and the pizza of the season. The Bufalini had too much sauce on it, and by the middle of dinner, the center of the crust was very soggy. As you can tell, the crust is a big deal. It should maintain its shape and texture throughout all of dinner. The pizza of the season had good ingredients including pancetta, which I enjoyed, but without a proper crust, I can't call it a proper pizza. Use the hot oil on everything, which will make the pizza better. Had high hopes for this place because it's Italian and got such good reviews, but what they say about NY pizza is that it's all about the water used for the dough. Even this pizzeria I worked for in Florida imported water from NY! The service is really great though, and if you haven't had pizza from Italy, New York or even Connecticut, then this is a good spot for pizza. read more

Sometimes us Americans just have to have a Pizza. We got one to go and ate along the canals-it was great.

there are so many pizzerias out there and it's hard to find a good option for those days when you really crave one. This is a very good option for pizza pleasure. The crust is thin and crispy, a little on the burned side (in s good way) and the ingredients are fresh. For a vegetarian the menu options are quite slim though and I have not yet gone out of my comfort zone and asked for a custom made pizza - although I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to help out. The staff is a tad bit better than the pizzas (and the pizzas are delicious). They will recognize you the second time you're back and (unfortunately) also know what your favorites are (no adventure pizzaing here). We always do take out. It's quick, easy and reasonably cheap. All in all. I'm happy to live just around the corner - but make sure not to be too familiar with this place. Pizza is after all not everyday food - even though the pizzas from fuoco vivo inspires you to eat more of it than you really should ;) read more

I have been here a number of times because my Napolitan friend really likes this place. The antipasti is great (especially now that they make their own mozzarella ) but I am not a big fan of their pizzas. I like my pizza with a thin crunchy crust and here they are just not thin enough for my taste. I know that pizzas vary per region in Italy, and having been in Napels with said friend where I had the original, I can only come to the conclusion that pizza Napolitan style just doesn't work for me. read more

I had this pizza on my last night in Amsterdam and I was wowed! I ordered the spicy salami pizza (I forget the name) and was very impressed. The crust has a nice chew, the sauce is very tasty and the slight heat of the salami is a perfect combination. The pizzas came out quickly after we ordered and the service was good. My only complaint would be that it's very loud- tables are close together and I believe there was also some ambient music playing- I had a hard time conversing with my friends. read more

Agree this is the best pizza in Amsterdam. The pizza was large, my wife and I split an excellent green salad served with tasty olive oil drizzled around the edges and very good Italian bread. Everybody deserves a second chance, and this place is the perfect food metaphor of that. I was there some months ago with some family members I left with a very disappointing feeling, it felt expensive and not good in general. Specially after some Italians at work were raving about this place as the pizza place in Amsterdam. Well in that occasion our pizzas were burned and the whole experience wasn't particularly good. Yesterday on the other hand, was a completely different ball game. It is unknown to me if they have changed the cook of if on that occasion they were just simply having a bad day. The pizzas yesterday were good, nicely cooked and using ,according to the menu, real Italian ingredients. I order the pizza diavola and my partner in crime had the Parma one. Both very recommend. The pizza of the month that looked very tasty. I wouldn't go as far as saying that this is the best pizza I have ever eaten, but as far as Amsterdam goes, it is up there! read more

My favourite pizza place in Amsterdam....they now make their own buffalo mozzarella as well as other cheeses and meats for their fantastic wood-oven baked pizzas....they don't serve much other food than the pizzas and a few starters, so make sure everyone in your group likes pizza.....and try to leave some room for their delicious sgroppino and/or cream limoncello drinks......the Italian staff has always been very friendly and helpful on the numerous times we've been there... read more

We tried pizza at a couple places on our trip to Amsterdam and this was by far the best. They are really putting out a great product. May be a bit on the more expensive side for pizza, but if you want it done the right way, sometimes you have to pay for it. We raved about the pizza with ricotta on it. The ricotta was so high quality, wife couldn't get enough, one of her favorite dishes in all of Amsterdam. I also really enjoyed it. read more

This was our first meal in Amsterdam and it was so good! Everything is so fresh and tasty. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer. The tomatoes were delicious. We also ordered some olives. I think it was about €4.00 for a generous order of olives which is very reasonable. We ordered the Bufalina pizza. Ugh- it was outstanding. The cheese was so creamy. The tomato sauce was so fresh. The dough was just right. All of our plates were completely polished off- even the olive bowl. We dipped our crust in the leftover oil. read more

Wood oven, real italians, this pizza is delicious! I prefer any of the red sauce pizzas over the white sauce but all are great! Antipasta appetizer is very good but not necessary unless your starving. My daughter and I could have shared a pizza, my husband and son each finished off there own. Daily dessert was a chocolate cake, yummy! Tiramisu was good too! Staff is very attentive and friendly! Make reservations if you plan ahead but not necessary.
