I bought my E-Mountain bike at LA Fly Rides back in December. I became obsessed with my bike and began riding every day. When I bought the bike, Austen helped me pick out the right one and helped me get financing so I could afford it. Hector then told me everything I needed to know about the bike. I live about 90 minutes away... so I figured I wouldn't see these guys anytime soon. But then something happened to the motor of the bike (after owning it for about 5 months). I took it to a (different) shop (Not Flyrides) that was relatively close to my house (and is an authorized dealer / service center for my brand of bike). The other shop (not Flyrides) had my bike for almost 2 months while they tried to figure out what was wrong with it. They couldn't figure it out, so they installed a new motor. I was hoping then it would be fixed and I could begin riding again. But that was not the case, and my bike was still broken with the motor not working. I then decided I should have brought it back to Flyrides (where I bought it from in the first place.) I reached out to Flyrides on a Saturday... they emailed me back the same day (on a Saturday, Thanks Marvin!!!!) and got me in 3 days later on Tuesday. It didn't take Marvin very long to figure out what was wrong... it was not the motor... the other shop had cut a wire and once the wire was replaced (I think they also replaced the speed sensor, just to make sure everything was covered.) the bike then worked just like day one. I'm back on the hills baby!!!! Word of advice: If you want to buy an electric bike, go to Flyrides (in La or San Diego) and if something happens (stuff happens, you know) then just bring it back to them and they will fix it right up!!! THE place to get your ebike. I'm over the moon over my pandemic-era ebike. It is now my favorite way to get around, get exercise, get green and get happy. After doing my online research, I went to my nearby bike shop in Pasadena - and watched the owner sell a bike to someone for $800 over MSRP. The shop also was full of people unmasked and socially distanced, but the sales guys did not care, just kept raking in money. I walked out - and made an appointment at LA Fly Rides. This shop is covid-careful, honest and makes the time to explain everything carefully, since you get your own appointment time. Austen the manager was awesome. I've found it's also important to establish a service relationship with a bike shop. Hector the service manager is amazing, as is the technician Seth. Both took so much time to explain to me which parts of my bike wear down, how to care better for my bike, how to oil my chain, etc. Don't bother going anyplace else. read more

This is by far the best and most eco-friendly way to go up to Griffith Observatory, roam around Griffith Park, check out the beautiful houses, weave through twisty roads, and take pictures by the Hollywood Sign up close. Best of all, not a single worry about parking or traffic!! LA Fly offers affordable e-bike tours and rentals all year round. Their bikes are in excellent condition and super easy to get used to. If you're a cyclist, you'll have no problem adapting to one. As a matter a fact, you'll learn to like it so much you'd have a hard time switching back to a regular bike The staff were super friendly and helpful. We didn't book in advance (but you should to make sure they have a spot/bike for you). Thankfully they were able accommodate us. Within minutes, we've checked in, signed our waivers, got a crash course (no pun intended), and off we went!! It literally took us less than 5 min to get used to it, and off we "flew"!! They got the work done but when I went to pay it was $100+ more than the original quote. I would have appreciated a heads up beforehand.

As a local cyclist and amateur area historian, the perfect thing to do when three friends came to visit was a self-guided tour of my favorite spots in Griffith Park and the Hollywood Hills. Scott and the Fly Bikes team were incredible from start to finish. I called ahead and made a reservation and Scott answered all my questions. When we showed up on a Sunday morning, Scott was ready for us and got us all suited up on some pretty trick front suspension mountain bikes with Bosch 250W electric motors. Extremely friendly and helpful the entire time. The bikes were great and we had everything we needed - helmets, water bottles, locks. We got 35 miles into a 4 hour half day rental, but that involved some hustle since we did three big climbs. My only niggle is that my three friends were given 500Wh batteries, and upon seeing mine die out faster than theirs, realizing I was set out with a 400Wh battery. Mine died after 3.5 hours while my friends with an extra 25% capacity made it all the way back to the shop. These bikes had four levels of assist - eco, tour, sport and turbo. The less assist you use, theoretically, the more battery range you can get. Eco - about makes up for the extra weight and rolling resistance of the bike - feels like a comparable effort to riding a road bike. Tour - allows you to ride at road bike speeds but one or two heart rate zones lower. Sport - kinda fun. Your feet are like a throttle and the bike does a lot of the work for you. Turbo - a bit ridiculous. Once the pedals start to move the bike takes off. It can accelerate you past your friends on a steep hill. Pure smiles. We went straight up Western/Western Canyon to the top of Mt. Hollywood, and descended Vista Del Valle to the Helipad and down to the neighborhood off Commonwealth. We snaked over to Crystal Springs and looped past Travel Town to Trash Truck Hill where we made a second ascent on Mt. Hollywood, this time from behind. After stopping at the Observatory, we went down past the Greek and took Vermont to Franklin. We scooted up Beachwood/Ledgewood/Deronda to the Hollywood sign, and then enjoyed three dirt trails on the way down to Lake Hollywood. From there we dropped though the dells out to Cahuenga and took Hollywood back to the shop. Can't wait until I get another opportunity to do this with more visitors. P.S. - it's also a dedicated e-bike store and they have a huge selection of recreational and commuter e-bikes. Way out of my budget, but after this experience, I can't wait until I get my own. I am not even sure where to start here so I will start with the good. Austen is super friendly and really tried to help me find a bike. In the end I could not get the bike I wanted through LA Fly Rides and ended up purchasing it from a shop in San Diego due to the bike shortage. With what happened next I feel like I dodged a bullet not buying there. The bad? Well, the bad is so frustrating. Initially I had called a few months back and someone else tried to push me into a bike purchase I didn't want telling me that I was wrong about what I want. That was annoying. Beyond annoying? My bike started making a knocking sound, not being a professional bike tech myself I guessed it was a loose belt in the motor, at least that's what it SOUNDED like and it was a little alarming. Fly Rides told me to bring it in and I went straight from the ride where I was given a lecture on my chain being dirty. I had actually SAID I was coming from a ride and I acknowledged that it was dirty. That wasn't the super annoying part. The super annoying part was being told I needed a $150 tuneup on my brand new bike which wasn't guaranteed to fix the issue and they "couldn't hear anything too unusual - just a rattle from the battery compartment door which we tightened". Cut to the next time I went to ride and the still unfixed battery door flew open causing my cable to stretch because, yup, door was loose. This time I went to InCycle Pasadena. The tech there immediately fixed the stretched cable (it just required re-seating the battery) and the door and I test rode. Still the sound ... I asked the tech to ride and in 30 seconds he came back telling me they were going to put me in for a warranty replacement because, you guessed it, the belt in the battery is bad. Vindication is nice, I admit, but if Fly Rides had correctly diagnosed it (they told me the knocking was the loose battery compartment door which they said they fixed but apparently didn't) I wouldn't have missed a ride and I wouldn't be writing this nasty review. The eMTB world is pretty small so I apologise in advance if anyone feels bummed by this review but the fact that I literally said "I think it is the motor" and was told "$150 tuneup" is infuriating. I was also patronised like all get out when I declined said tuneup and took my bike home as if I were a total idiot. I'm only partly stupid! Thankyouverymuch. read more

Great for buying a bike but have to say follow up service stinks. I had an issue last weekend with my ebike not charging. Could not speak to anyone about it - even Specialized told me to go back to dealer - they had me fill out a service request online - a week later I have still to hear back from anyone. Today we had Hector and Seth install a new headlight on my 2018 Raleigh Lore IE ebike. They provided quick, last minute (I didn't have an appointment), and friendly service. They installed the light in less time than they originally thought, so only charged me for how long it really took. They also they lubed the chain, updated the firmware, and reprogrammed the light to stay always on per my request. Super happy with these guys and thanks for the awesome service! I live in Cypress, CA and recently purchased a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 HPC SL 750 from LA Fly Rides. I have had it for about 2 months and I absolutely LOVE it! I had a HaiBike emtb for about 4 years before, so this is my 2nd emtb. I was looking at several brands and models, and spoke to most of the major emtb dealers in Southern CA. My first encounter with LA Fly Rides was watching many of their demo videos, which are very informative. I contacted them by phone initially, and spoke to Austen. He is hands down, the most knowledgeable and professional dealer I encountered - plus he is featured on many of Fly Rides bike demos, and is an expert rider. We discussed several bikes, and he spent a lot of time with me on the phone. He then followed up with me (as he promised) right away with an email with more links for me to review. Soon after our call, I made an appointment with Austen and he showed a number of bikes that they had in stock. After our discussion, I determined that the bike(s) I was most interested in were not currently in stock, but I had a pretty good idea what I wanted. I called Austen back on my drive home, and I put a deposit down on the bike I wanted. He called me back as soon as it came in and I drove up to LA to pick it up. After I rode it for a week or two, I noticed a few things I wanted to have more dialed in, so I called their service line and made an appointment to come back in for a more precise fitting. Marvin, who initially set up the bike helped me again, and he dialed EVERYTHING I wanted to be adjusted in for me PERFECTLY. Cypress is a long commute from LA Fly Rides, but it is WORTH IT when you are shopping for a higher end bike.
