I've not had a melon pan that was like this before. The beef curry pan was delicious but there was barely any filling in it. I remember there was more many years ago. It used to be one of my favorite items from Kanadell so it was definitely a disappointment. Lastly, the animal character with red bean filling inside, there was also barely any filling in it. Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.
