I have been a member here several years and have watched it get worse over time. The pool seems to always be closed, same with the hot tub. Now the sauna is closed to rebuild. I mentioned to Ryan that these are the 3 things I like to use and would like some sort of discount until fixed. He told me no and to go use another LA Fitness. He showed no concern whatsoever for my complaints and seemed bothered to be pulled away from his friends/coworkers that he was chatting with. As far as the gym, it is very dirty with the locker room being the worst. The locker room had a very bad odor for several months. It may not be the gym as much as the manager Ryan that needs fixing. After 3 years here, I don't think I'll ever go to another gym. The women's bathroom attendants are not only friendly but also keep it clean. The front desk staff always greet me with a smile and the community is so supportive. I've also noticed staff picking up after people who don't put their weights back which I appreciate. Haters are gonna hate and knit-pick at every gym, but I care more about the kind of people I'm surrounded by, which keeps me coming back. read more

I have been a member there for several years and it's been my experience that the pool is down several months every year. for lap swimmers like me it is unacceptable. Good gym at a great price with the BEST personal trainer, Nick. I think the subject line captures everything but just to elaborate slightly further. The LA Fitness in Wayne, NJ is a large, no extra frills gym that works perfectly for my needs. The people are warm and friendly and nobody tried to hard sell me on anything. It's never so packed that equipment isn't available. With Nick's expert help, I was able to transform my body back to a healthier and better version within half a year. He's capable of pushing you when you need it the most but also is gently encouraging when needed. The classes are also great. Christine, the spin instructor, was the FIRST spin instructor to ever correct my seat position after all these guys in Manhattan let me damage my knees in spin class over the years. If you're looking for fancy lattes and lavender scented towels, this gym isn't for you. But if you're looking for a great environment to work out without being bothered or ogled, then I highly recommend LA Fitness in Wayne NJ. Scoping out a new gym in the area and was excited to try out LA Fitness. Was greatly disappointed. 1) its dirty. overall cleanliness is poor. No one cleans equipment after use. Instead of gym wipes, they have tables with spray bottles, but no paper towels or anything. Really gross 2) As mentioned in other reviews, the dumbbells are scarce. not sure if they are scattered around the gym or missing, or what, but they was hardly any on the rack and the few that were, were 70+ lbs and none in the right spot. 3) Also mentioned in other reviews, the AC doesn't really work. it was very hot and humid. 3) The vinyl on mayn of the smith machines is all torn and the rubber is missing on alot of the grab handles. For $150 sign-on and $30/$40 per month membership, I really expected an elite gym but instead it was a really poor experience. They desperately need to invest back. into the business and get better management. read more

Maybe it's because I'm used to NYC gyms, but this place is a dream to me. I was briefly a member here back in 2018, and would happily still be if I lived in NJ. I still get day passes here every now and then, and it's always a great experience. There's a ton of space, no shortage of equipment (it's honestly sad I've never seen a city gym with 3 squat racks), and never feels crowded. They staff is typically friendly and does a great job cleaning the space and (very large) locker rooms. They also have a designated women's' workout room, with cardio equipment, free weights, and machines, which is something I rarely see. Great gym, no complaints! read more

This gym has improved noticeably in recent months, but the big call out is I recently brought some areas for improvement up (need more tricep ropes, assistance with re-racking or adding additional gear that travels around to all corners of the gym) and not only are they making improvements Gary on staff saw me to update me. Ryan Tant the operations manager at this gym is careless and unprofessional. When I spoke to him I felt like I was teaching him how to be a manager. To make matters worse they have a front desk worker named ruthy who will have no problem getting into a public confrontation with you because you didn't follow proper protocol when checking into the gym. read more

LA Fitness - Dirty equipment - Gyms Near Me - Wayne, New Jersey

The place is a pig sty. There's a urinal in the men's room that's been out of service for approximately 2 months. With the exception of tbe custodial staff, no other employees make any effort to keep the place clean. Trainers complete a session with a client and leave weights and equipment where they fall. Weights, dumbells, empty water bottles are left scattered on the floor across the entire gym. This particular facility must be still be in the 1920's because they have a separate women's gym. A lot of the plates have their rubber coating broken and for some reason never get replaced. Calls and complaints to corporate go are waste of time. read more

My friend and I were mislead. We were told we could use our three-day pass within a week. When we returned four days later for our second visit we were told we had to join and could not use the pass. We were not able to see the gym or pool at different times of the day and were being pushed to go into a contract. Nahim was not accommodating. Joining a gym is a commitment and it would have been helpful to utilize the remaining passes to determine a decision to move forward. I am uncomfortable with this employee's unwillingness to fulfill what had been told to us over the phone. read more

This LA Fitness is one of the older ones but it still gets the job done. It's on a small shopping center with a Kmart so there is plenty of parking. The one thing that definitely packs at this location is the service. Most of the time the front desk person doesn't even look at you when scanning in. Also, there are times when the gym is a little dirty and some equipment is out of order. With this being said, I still prefer coming to this location over some of the others. I like the layout of the gym and they also have several racquetball and basketball courts. They even have a separate women's only workout room. The equipment might not be the newest but they have everything you would need. It's also not ever too busy to the point where you have to wait for machines like some of the other locations. read more

Came to the Wayne location due to the sauna being out of commission in the Morris plains area. I've never wrote a review before but after this experience I couldn't hold off. This gym is absolutely disgusting, it's a mess, there are weights scattered all throughout the gym. The management just sits on their phones, there's garbage all over the place. It's bad for the brand overall. I feel terrible for those who pay the amount of money they do monthly for the gym to be a complete pigsty as their home location. Gym is a good space with a large variety of equipment. This gym loses points in a couple of areas. The first, it is just not clean. The bathrooms smell bad, and the floors need some care. Second, most the equipment is either run down, dirty, or missing something but they still work. At planet fitness, customers and staff are constantly cleaning the machines. The dumbbell situation is bad, there's about two dumbbells on the rack and the rest are scattered throughout the gym. Worst LA Fitness. So dark, hot, dirty, terrible machines. Majority of the machines need maintenance. Weights are worn, need replacements. looks so dirty that you don't wanna even touch. All pool area equipment is all rusted. I wouldn't even go into that pool. We just moved here and I go to LA fitness more than 10 years where I used to live down in Jersey Shore. With the girl with the blue and hair the other girl that sits at the desk in the back have the worst attitudes I have ever seen at a gym. My first trip to this location, and have to admit I'm taken aback my all of the bad reviews. My experience was really good. Towels stocked. Water fountains working. All cardio machines in service but one. Loads of equipment, nautilus and free weights, much of it truly brand new. The locker room was in a pretty good state though there were a few paper towels on the floor. The pool area looked clean through the windows. They had an extremely large ab section with mats, weights, and benches on one side and ab machines lining the other. The basketball courts were bustling. There did appear to be a maintenance issue on two of the racquetball courts that they were in the process of fixing with some heavy duty equipment. They also had a dedicated women's workout room, which piqued my curiosity. The equipment options in there were pretty pathetic. Overall, a solid place to get a workout. The gym itself is in a great location with lots of parking, however, the cleanliness and the service at this location is not up to par with other facilities. No one seems to be willing to help with any questions you may have, staff is constantly on their cell phones when you check in,and I never see anyone disinfecting the equipment. With everything that is going on currently with the spread of a virus I would like to see staff putting in the extra effort to make sure the facility is as sanitized as possible, being that it should always be sanitized, now is the time to make sure they are going the extra mile. I enjoy the gym, but certain things need to be addressed if I will continue to spend my money at this location. read more

This place gets another star. They have new spin bikes with magnetic resistance with digital display. It makes for a smoother ride not that I care because I don't take spin classes there. But I do use it for my 15-20 minutes warm ups. I also noticed those low impact strider things are also new too. Big ups to management on upgrading the machines. Hopefully, the other LA fitness's follow suit. But for monthly dues of ~$37/month it's still not as the other gyms around. They do offer pool that seems to never be open/cleaned/used. There is never issue with finding a locker anymore. But the locker room floors is really dirty. read more

This gym is a disaster. One member commented that he's waiting to get ringworm from this facility. There is dust, hair and only God knows what else littering the gym floor at all hours of the day, at any given moment there is various equipment that is broken and which takes an act of Congress to get repaired. The free weights are scattered throughout the facility but not near the racks. Should the members put them away? Yup. But is there anyone monitoring the gym floor? No. Never. Requests for change and complaints about the condition of the facility are wholly ignored. The front desk staff is busy playing on their phones and the "personal training" staff (term used very loosely) is apparently too important to do floor time to ensure the gym stays in good order. It's is abundantly clear that this corporate run facility entices people to join, to pay sign up fees, monthly membership dues and then fails to deliver on the promised service. This gym falls short, despite others in this chain operating clean and well managed facilities. read more

I recently switched to this gym due to the fact that they are open until 8pm on the weekends, which works great with my schedule. The onboarding process was a little confusing, the sales rep told me one thing and then later said something had changed...think he just wanted the sale. But overall this gym is amazing. Its SO CLEAN, which is great because my previous gym was a mess. The only complaint that I do have is that there aren't enough kettlebells lol and the ones that they do have are hard to find. I can actually say I look forward going to this gym everyday. read more

PEOPLE, if you are evaluating gyms in the Wayne area, there are about 4 or 5 gyms that you should be going to before this one. Management themselves has admitted that they don't take care of the gym since it would be taken our of their sales bonuses for any expenses. Was pretty pleased to join LA Fitness in Wayne. I am a late person so the 12AM closing is a huge bonus. Machines are generally pretty accessible. My wife comes in during rush hours but never really had any problems waiting for a cardio machine. I don't use the shower / sauna facilities, so the complaints about cleanliness is really not much of an issue for me. Locker room areas a reasonably clean. read more

Women's sauna is always broken/weak and it seems like it's always off 2-3 hours before closing time for some reason. Not a bad gym, but I'm giving it 2 stars for two reasons. When I first started coming here, the girl sitting behind the counter was stuffing her face with like $23 worth of Popeyes. I had to awkwardly stand and wait while she cleaned the grease off her hands so she could grab the scanner and I could scan in my ID tag. Really? No break room? You're drooling gravy and biscuit crumbs all over the front desk while people are trying to go and get in shape? Very gross and unprofessional. Secondly, there is an unprecedented amount of super douchebags that go here. Well it is Wayne, NJ so I'm not totally surprised. And this problem isn't nearly as bad as it is at the Clifton location. But just an overall sense of entitlement that I've experienced in Wayne is crazy to me. One person is often working out on 4 different machines at the same time and freak out if you don't notice and take one that appears free to use. Still better than that joke gym Planet Fitness though. read more

Looks like the LA Fitness folks have migrated elsewhere. I've been a member at this gym when it first opened back in 2006-07. What difference does 7 years make! I would have given this place a 5 star rating back then. Men's locker room is nasty, and I agree with the review earlier regarding the filthy people that make it filthy. Only reason I'm a member here is that I received a class action law suit and was awarded 2 free months of membership. Most likely I will not renew. I do remember why I left here. There is little or no cell service. I like to listen to Pandora or Sirius XM while I work out and without wifi or cell service, I get neither. If you want to watch TV with sound, you will need to buy an AM/FM radio to tune into the station. There are no headphone jacks on the cardio equipment. read more
