Salt Lick is a staple in Austin. All the staff was helpful. The site coordinator (Rachel Agin) was amazing and always very responsive. I was nervous about everything and we had plan A-G and she walked me through it all. I saw another review who was unhappy on the way it looks, but I will say it depends on when you go and how you decorate it. When we visited in December/January... in the winter... there was no greenery... because it was the winter... We were very simple with our decorations (mason jar flowers with 3 votives around the table as centerpieces and a table runner down the middle - that's it) and it was amazing. The chandeliers and lighting were perfect, and I didn't need to be extra. Externally I felt like a princess walking towards the arch and my goodness it was amazing. We just had flowers on the arch and I have seen some people leave it bare (your choice) I think it is beautiful either way. My guests RAVED about the food and ate SO MUCH. They couldn't stop talking about how perfect my wedding was with the location, the food, and everything else. I've gotten comments like "This is probably the prettiest wedding I have been to" and "I went back for 3rds". I will say none of this would have been possible without the incredible staff. They were very patient with us, and there were a few things that I was going to get charged extra for, but they didn't. They didn't rush us out, and made sure we were comfortable and told us to leave whenever we were ready to. So, it was a hectic night but we got to enjoy every moment of it. Carey was our Day of Coordinator and equally as fabulous. She was one step ahead of everything and was always ready with a refill of our drinks. All the staff the day of were great as well. They even packed the leftover catering food and any decor/items in the getting ready room in our truck. I come from a background of event planning and Kimberli and Carey and the team at OGR checked all the boxes and make planning and executing your wedding day flawless. My husband and I felt so taken care of on the day of and all of our guests were texting us the days after saying how it was such a wonderful event - all thanks to the OGR team. There is a decent parking lot for about 25ish cars in the front and more parking in the back which is a plus. The walkway is full cobbles so can be hard to walk on in heels. The indoor venue is warmly lit and has very Texan barn kind of vibes. It was good for a wedding but I am not sure what else does it have to offer apart from that.

I had a lot of guests from outside of Texas, so I wanted to give them an authentic Texas Hill Country experience while still reflecting my modern tastes. I chose to have both my ceremony and dinner in the beautiful Great Room to avoid the Texas heat, which was a decision both my guests and I appreciated! Dancing was in the barn, and there was a nice breeze flowing through the doors that kept the space cool. The reason I first fell in love with this venue is that it feels like a home rather than an "event space." The on-site bride and groom's suites were so convenient and comfortable, and my guests enjoyed having so many options to explore between the great room, the upstairs and downstairs patios, the lawn, and the barn. I love this venue so much, I chose to hold my rehearsal dinner and a post-wedding Sunday brunch there as well! April was so incredibly kind and helpful both before the wedding (which was a long period of time - I booked way back in December 2015!) as well as at all three of my events. The ceremony was on a grassy area with a beautiful alter facade. The reception area was truly the showstopper. The view was beautiful all around. There were archways everywhere you looked with the most scenic Hill Country views you could ask for. The dance floor protruded out one of the archways so that you could dance under the stars. Truly breathtaking. My only complaint was the terrain. The area where we had cocktail hour, as well as the walk to the ceremony, was very jagged and rocky. You would not believe the staircase down to the grass. There were rough steps and wobbly branches as handrails. The reception had flat cement floors, but again, the outside bar area was very hazardous in heels. The bride and bridal party had cowboy boots on, so this was mainly the brides fault for not including this bit of information about the difficult terrain in the invitation. Apparently many guests were aware of this, but as a plus 1, how was I to know? Something should have been mentioned in the invitation, or on the bride and groom's website.

To say they go above and beyond is an understatement! I think Leslie even managed to turn down the June in Texas heat for the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception! My kids loved playing on the grounds, in the pool, and in the very kid/family friendly game room within the hacienda. If anyone is looking for a fantastic wedding venue where lifelong memories can be made with family and friends close by, you will not go wrong with Rancho Mirando.

It has a semi large ballroom that would easily house 125. The floors are a nice terra-cotta tile and this space has large windows. On the right hand side there are a few windows with stained glass. Check the photo I posted they are very lovely. At the very end of the room is a distinctive wooden bar. The wood is stained dark and it has an aged look to it. There are double doors that lead to the 1st floor patio. This area is a very nice space for cocktails, I would date say you could get 50 to 75 people out there. Beyond the patio are red brick stairs that lead to the large lawn. The large lawn is where you can play lawn games and or hold a ceremony. I will be honest you can hear some of the traffic on the main road. I am sure that would be less noticeable if soft music was playing.the next thing I noticed about this place is that the upstairs are dedicated to the wedding party. There is a suite for the bride and the groom both with their own bathroom. There is also an elevator and a sitting area outside of the suites where a quick meal might be had. All and all I think this is a cute venue. It's an attractive property and all the chartering is handled by Salt Lick.

What a beautiful venue!! I had never even heard of it until I got the invitation. Thurman's Mansion is part of the Salt Lick Family--located just East of the Salt Lick on 1826. Gorgeous iron gates pique the curiousity of drivers and beckon guests in. The venue is a large mansion overlooking well manicured grounds and vineyards. The view of the mansion from the back is just breathtaking. A huge porch covers the back of the building--dramatic pillars hold up a second story balcony. Wide steps lead up from the grounds to the back doors of the reception hallf/main room. I saw the mansion on two different days in two very different ways--Friday afternoon for the rehearsal, I saw it set up for an outdoor wedding. The sun shining down, bride practicing her walk from the sweeping steps of the mansion down to the corner of the lawn where the trellace waited, people lining the stone walls around the perimeter of the lawn watching the practice. I felt like I stepped into a Jane Austen movie--my friend had planned a glorious outdoor wedding on the grounds. Much to her dismay, God and the torrential downpours decided that it would be better to have the ceremony indoors. Rather than ceremony outside and reception inside, both ceremony and reception were inside. The staff had set up about 40 chairs where the dance floor would have been. Double doors were open at the back of the small seating area allowing the pitter-pattering of the rain outside as the background music while they exchanged vows. The reception was a seated dinner for about 150 guests. Salt lick does catering--very fun to have the family style dinner Texas Style w/ cobbler as dessert. A nice alternative to the traditional wedding scene. The porch was a great place for conversation and mingling--they had the bar and some hors d'eouvres set up out there while the guests waited for pictures to be taken. The rain let up for exactly an hour--enough time for outdoor pictures! I honestly think that my friend got the best of both worlds...a unique, beautiful, romantic and intimate indoor wedding ceremony complete with rain and tears. Then outdoor pictures overlooking the vineyards with the mist hovering over the land. I swear I could hear Mr. Darcy beckoning to me while I watched from the porch... My hat goes off to you, Thurman's Mansion. You successfully transported me to another time. Bravo.

The venue was lovely aesthetically, however, left a lot to be desired, mostly for those with any mobility issues. The river stones in the reception area made every step difficult, and I didn't' wear heals. The stone dance floor was a bit treacherous also. The chairs were either to low, or sank into the river stone, making it difficult to get out of the chairs. Many steps in and out of the house where the restroom was located, also not ADA friendly. Not sure if there was a place for the bride and groom to dress, but the house was so small I can't imagine there was a room for that.Other wise, the grounds were beautiful.

They showed us the inside and the owner mentioned we could use the tables inside for our cakes, gifts, etc but we weren't allowed to move any of her decor. It's because it is their home that they are living in! The groom quarters is there sons old room full of junk. And in the kitchen area there was a large bowl filled with old mail and moldy bread! That is the last thing I was my guests seeing at a wedding. The Vermont chairs were also very low and narrow so it would be difficult for any tall or wider guests. Wish we could have used this venue
