Montesino is one of our favorite places on Earth. I know the Texas Hill Country better than most, as I spend so much time traveling throughout the region, and I have the good fortune to visit a lot of private ranches as part of my work. My family (including two toddlers) and I were looking for a place that wasn't too remote where we could get away from city life and the busy-ness that comes with it. This place really hits the mark on all levels - conveniently located, but remote feeling, great accommodations (and the lovely host, Pam), a fantastic swimming hole on the Blanco, lots of great restaurants nearby, etc. There is also an impressive working farm that is always yielding plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. And, Farmer John is always interested in showing kids and sharing the bounty. Highly recommended! read more

The venue is just beautiful. I enjoyed the view, location, and environment. However, the lady "in charge" (Pam) is very condescending and passive aggressive. McKenzie was so sweet but following orders she had to rush us to finish our duties. It's in the middle of nowhere and I do not know why they are sticklers to "their ways". There is a huge miscommunication between them two; mixed messages. No kind of accommodations are available. I did not enjoy interacting with them overall as I felt rushed and they just came off as entitled/unprofessional. They speak negatively about people instead or reaching out to them directly. They have a belief of they host "weddings", not "parties/celebrations" and are unaware of cultural differences. Pam is adamant about receiving a list for EVERY single detail such as when the bride/groom is getting ready and when everything happens when they weren't present the entire time to SUPPORT the event. That's the job of the coordinator. For the price overall of the venue/limits and the amenities and accommodations, this place is overpriced. read more

I looked into this venue for hosting my October 10th wedding, but they were booked. Instead of trying to make me change my date, like most other venues have done to not lose business, they offered other venues that would possibly have openings for my date. I thought that said a lot about their company, so I wanted to share with everyone. I know whoever is lucky enough to book this venue will be well taken care of! read more

Montesino hosted our high school's prom here and the venue was amazing. Pam was incredibly helpful working out a date and a price that we could afford (given that we are a Title 1 school). Since our prom was on a Sunday, she even arranged for the wedding that was at Montesino on Saturday to donate their flowers to our dance. Pam could not have been more helpful, and the venue was absolutely gorgeous. Being busy teachers planning prom, having such a great venue meant that we were able to spend less money and less time worrying about extra decorations. I would highly recommend Montesino for any event- it is absolutely perfect for weddings and dances, but could also work with a more casual event. read more

I planned my trip last minute to the day & luckily they were able to accommodate me. I called Pamela to book it & she was so sweet!! The place & how it's ran is very laid back which I loved. They actually make you feel at home which is hard to come across. I had a great dinner in San Marcos, then I came back & lit a fire & just relaxed with some wine. The property is so well kept & the views are stunning! I highly recommend going up to the pavilion area, the view will blow you away! I will 110% be coming back here in the future!! read more

I recently spent a weekend at this lovely ranch and I couldn't recommend it more! My boyfriend and I were looking for something unique and off the beaten path - done and done. This place is quaint, quiet and cozy.. all traits adding to a perfect retreat. Our biggest regret is that we even ventured off the property. The hiking is pretty fantastic and you can easily access the Blanco.. there were even board games in our unit. Add in a DVD player and you've got everything you could possibly need. We greatly appreciated both the normal coffee maker as well as the french press, the availability of coffee and creamer, and the fresh farm eggs in the fridge. The studio itself is a beautiful blend of modern, rustic and cottage - with all the charm you'd expect to see in a magazine or an HGTV show. We're already planning our trip back.. you should be planning a trip, too! read more

We held my daughters wedding there just a few weeks ago, like others have stated the venue is absolutely breathtaking; however, the management (Pam) is terrible to work with, extremely unprofessional, disrespectful to the bride & groom, harassing the bride with nonsense when she could have left the bride alone to enjoy being freshly married. When my daughter & son in law went to book the venue Pam was laid back, nice & welcoming; however, that changed once she received our money. Upon arrival not once did Pam come to greet us, make sure we got into the accommodation or to ensure we knew where to place all the food to be stored over night etc. The venue is in the middle of nowhere out in the hill county, yet the venue does not have a means for you to access ice, if you need ice you most drive down into Wimberly to get some, as you can imagine in the Texas heat the ice didn't last long and melted in its way back to the venue. The day of the wedding there was a lady hanging around the reception, not once did she introduce herself to me , the brides mom, the one paying the bill. The next day I found out the lady was Pam's daughter, at the end of the reception the daughter was helping me pic of trash, I asked if I needed to recycle some bottles she said, no it wasn't a big deal- myself and the wedding coordinator asked her multiple times if it was ok to leave the tables and chairs out and pick them up in the morning, she said no problem. We asked her if there was anything else we needed to do before calling it a night & she said no we were good- she also stated "you don't have to have the reception area cleaned up by 11am, just need to be out of the rooms by 11 for housekeeping & that we could clean the reception area throughout the day." The next morning my daughter and the coordinator began receiving RUDEmessages from Pam, scolding us for not picking up the tables, claiming we were lucky they did not receive any damage from the dew, telling us there is a checklist sheet we were supposed to fall but HER daughter failed to give it to us, she also had the nerve to say we needed to SORT THE TRASH I'm sorry but if that was something you wanted done you should have let it be known PRIOR to booking that we would need to be very specific on where to throw things away. Extremely disappointing! I can't deny it's breathtaking & my daughter will have beautiful pictures;however, I would never recommend the place, it is quite costly, and I will caution all those I know getting married in the future to not be deceived by this venues management. read more

Such a joy to explore this ranch - wonderful river access, hiking trails, sweeping vistas. The studios are beautifully designed and appointed, and are placed under hundred year old pecan trees. They have a wonderful yard with lots of recreation for kids & adults alike, and also a great grilling/firepit area. Really close to the charming Wimberley square and its wonderful shopping & restaurants. This is a great place for a romantic getaway, or a family vacation. You won't be disappointed! read more

Similar to another reviewer, Tiffany H., I planned my trip at the last minute. Pam was friendly and accommodating as she helped me make last minute arrangements. The farm was more gorgeous and welcoming that I had ever imagined. They allow their guests to visit their gentle animals which added to the magical feel of our vacation. The guest houses are minimal and clean looking but not stuffy or pretentious. They have an air of being well-made yet hand-made. The guest houses lend themselves to a perfect spot for group and multiple-family get-aways. We enjoyed our trip so much that Pam was very flexible with us on the check-out time. That's a first for any guest house I've ever stayed in! We can't wait to visit Montesino again. Thanks, Pam! read more

Montesino Ranch was the perfect venue for our wedding, it absolutely had everything that we were wanting and more. Montesino Ranch is a beautiful piece of property with so many places to explore, which really helped us make the wedding unique from choosing the ceremony site to laying out the reception to the photographs we were able to get on the wedding day. Pam, the venue coordinator, was incredibly easy to get in contact with and was very accommodating when it came to answering our plethora of questions. Everybody we met at Montesino was laid back and so nice, it truly made our wedding weekend experience even better. We loved that we got the day before, the day of, and the day after our wedding in the rental, that took SO much stress off of us; especially after touring multiple venues who only gave you 6 or 8 hours on the wedding day. In addition to that, staying on property was one of the best decisions we made; it was so relaxing knowing that we weren't going to have to travel at all before the wedding or after. Montesino helped make our wedding absolutely perfect and I don't think we could've picked a better venue for our wedding. read more

The ranch is beautiful! The accommodations were cute and comfortable. We chose this venue for my daughter's wedding. First, they wouldn't allow me to book all the accommodations onsite - so we had complete strangers walking around during our event. Secondly, they nickel and dime you to death. Thirdly, the entire weekend, the 'ranch manager' followed me around giving me 'rules' about my event - none of which are listed in the contact. And yes, 'ranch manager,' I have smart phone and pulled up the contract. Not to give names, but her first name starts with 'Pam' and she's a liar. And the final straw was on wedding day, literally an hour before the event, the incredibly ignorant 'ranch manager' proceeded to accost my guests, steal coolers from any unlocked vehicle, make up rules about how and when alcohol was to be served, and stand AT the bar and put her ignorance on full display. Fortunately, (for you, 'ranch manager') the wedding coordinator was able to remove her from my event. If you're considering this venue for an event, I'd STRONGLY urge you to reconsider. Thanks for the level of effort you put into ruining an event I'd spent a year planning, 'Pam.' The good news is that once the ignorant 'ranch manager' went away, we had a really good time! To the actual owners of the venue, it's a lovely venue - and you would have had TONS of repeat business, but 'Pam' ruined that for you. However, when you're ready to get serious about managing events, call me. Frankly, call anyone other than 'Pam.' She's a ridiculous impediment to your success. read more

We recently stayed in a farm studio on the ranch and cannot wait to return. I had all the usual trepidation for my very first vacation rental for our little family, fortunately the Montesino met and exceeded nearly all my expectations. All the fun and dirt of staying on a working ranch, but in a manicured package that makes all your vacation pictures so pretty. The Montesino operates as a wedding venue, and they make sure the ranch looks on point at any time. From the artful piles of metal laundry buckets, to the curving lanes, to the twisting wood columns that soar to the ceilings of their barn and pavilion, attention is paid to the slightest detail to ensure that your farm stay pays for itself in photo ops. I am not a camping person, I do not enjoy roughing it in the least. For city folks, the Montesino gives just the right amount of farm with most of the conveniences of home. Town center is 10 minutes away with its great restaurants and new HEB. No internet on the farm, but cell service is great. The studio apartment itself has a modern, clean design with high ceilings, and a kitchen stocked with all your basic cooking tools and multicolored eggs. There is a TV but our toddler found so much to explore that we never needed it. As a vacation rental, it would suit a single person, couples, or families. One studio could house up to 2 adults plus 2 kids comfortably. The second floor studios are often recommended, I think partly due to their vaulted ceilings. However with a young child it was wonderful to be able to throw the patio doors open to the gated yard as we supervised from our ground floor kitchen, and avoid dealing with stairs. We had equally positive experiences with the staff: Owner Pam was on site daily, kindly answering any silly question we had about farms and farm animals. The farmer who was staying above us was very patient with our toddler who kept stomping up his stairs to pet the cat. We stayed in very early spring so no vegetables yet, but I hope to cook some fresh produce during our next stay. read more
