Third year at Camp Fimfo -- and unfortunately probably our last…read more Our family has come here three years in a row. This year we booked four days at hundreds of dollars per night. Our nephew is almost four and has ridden the small red and blue slides in the interactive children's water playground during each of the last two years. They were the main attraction he was excited about returning to. This year, after we arrived, we were told he suddenly must be 42 inches tall to ride them. So somehow he could ride these slides when he was younger and smaller, but cannot ride them now. We absolutely understand legitimate safety requirements. What we don't understand is this: The enormous full-size water slides at Camp Fimfo also have a 42-inch minimum. So the little slides in the children's water-play structure now have the same minimum height as the massive elevated water slides. Perhaps there is a legitimate safety explanation for that, but from a customer's perspective it makes very little sense. Even more frustrating, while sitting here today we have watched children who appear to be our nephew's height -- and some who appear shorter -- being allowed down the same small slides. If 42 inches is necessary for safety, enforce it consistently. If this is a new restriction, clearly disclose it before returning families spend substantial money booking their trip. We called the front desk before posting a review to give Camp Fimfo an opportunity to address the situation. The employee was cordial. Their proposed solution was a free ice cream. After spending hundreds of dollars per night on a four-day stay, an ice cream doesn't address the problem. This isn't about demanding that Camp Fimfo ignore a safety rule. It's about clear disclosure, consistent enforcement, and reasonable treatment of returning customers. Watching an almost-four-year-old try to understand why he could ride his favorite slides when he was younger and smaller, but can't now -- while similarly sized children continue riding them -- is incredibly disappointing. We returned for a third year because Camp Fimfo had earned our family's business. Unless this is meaningfully addressed, there won't be a fourth.

A very special shoutout to the Recreation & Activities Supervisor, Kim Wertens! She was amazing--so patient, resourceful, and truly went above and beyond to accommodate our group of 90 people. She worked with our preplanned schedule and helped keep all the kids entertained, which made a huge difference for everyone. But despite that notion, Jacob's Well overall is very underwhelming. The hike is probably the shortest and least challenging I've ever experienced. There are several mini trails that are great for kids to explore, along with a large tire swing at the front entrance. Jacob's Well is definitely very kid- and senior-friendly as it's not very strenuous at all to hike or walk around. It's a nice that it's there for everyone to experience nature but again, very underwhelming. We spent about half an hour there which was enough time to experience the entire area. Definitely worth a visit if it's your first time in Wimberley.

They are known for the well so we naturally went there first. I was expecting a bit more honestly but it was cool to see regardless. The park itself is free but if you want to swim, you have to reserve it and only can during season (starts in may). I can't speak much on the swim itself but the hike there wasn't really bad honestly. There are a few paths that require you to be careful (climbing rocks and bit of steep hill) so hang on to the rails, ropes and don't step close to the edges. The paths themselves are actually really small not very far hikes. You can complete most of the trails in a day if you like but watch your step on some of the paths. The ones I liked were more rocky paths and a bit challenging but nothing too painful. There wasn't many people around either on the paths so was able to just enjoy and do some bird sightings. We even enjoyed a picnic there and nothing around us to bother us. Overall this was a fun experience to visit if you happen to be around. I think this place is fun if you have kids and need to burn some of their energy.

You will want to show up a little bit ahead of time because people will be lining up to get in once the reservation time opens and you don't want to waste your reservation time just waiting in line. Service was kinda off-putting, the lady was not very friendly and she also wasn't very clear about the wristbands and whether or not all of us needed them or if just the kids needed them. Other than that, the place itself was very nice and other staff walking around were very nice too. They did round everyone up around 5pm because of lightning storms within 10 mile distance so they have to clear the area and hold for 30 mins before they can allow you back, but luckily we were pretty much ready to leave anyway. Our reservation specifically included a picnic table so we had a designated spot with our name reserved just near the swimming hole. The nice part about reservations means that the place doesn't get super crowded. The kids really liked the swing but even just floating around was really nice. The water itself is mostly shaded by large trees so you aren't burning in the sun. Definitely recommend bringing food and drinks to enjoy a picnic out here, since they had one vending machine nearby. The bathrooms were super clean and not terribly far from the water itself so that was super convenient, as well as nice changing rooms! This was a nice way to spend the afternoon cooling down from the Texas heat.

Everything was very organized and the staff did a great job keeping things running smoothly. The water was great a bit cold but clear and so refreshing on a hot day. We also had a lot of fun using the rope swing! Just sharing a few tips: large umbrellas aren't allowed, but you can bring a small one, and you'll probably want it if it's sunny. There are some reserved spots available but they're very limited and book up fast. If you don't have one, make sure to arrive early because most spots are first come, first served. You could bring your own food and drinks but alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Overall, such a fun place to spend a few hours and cool off. Definitely worth the visit!

Especially during THUNDER OF THE GODS in May. I started going to this place when it supported FLIPSIDE, and it's always great to go back to visit. They have a huge field, a pavilion, a nice powered stages, a ton of camping areas, and a great swimming hole. they have indoor toilets and showers, RV hookups. The staff are genuinely nice and professional people. It's only 45 minutes from downtown which is well worth the drive. Just be careful when heading out, it's kind of easy to miss which is what makes it so bad ass- the only people that should be there are the ones smart enough to find it. We arrived and at the front gate while we were signing a release form I asked if we could go in and out and they said yes. We proceeded to the next gate and the woman that let us through said something about bands having to park and walk their stuff in. We laughed it off and said we had a lot of gear and all the cars with us had band people in it. Later that evening it turns out that the woman at the 2nd gate had started taking driver's licenses with no explanation. We left the next morning and on our way out we asked if we would be able to get back in and were told yes. When my boyfriend went back a few hours later he was told that he would have to pay $20 to get back in or leave a credit card or cell phone. Excuse me??? Of course he said no and drove on through. If you allow a 3 day music festival to happen on your campground you should realize that there *will* be a lot of cars. A big majority of these cars will have band and and lots of music equipment in them. You seriously cannot expect them to park and walk with their equipment, that is really just absurd. Also, it is a bad business decision to try and start charging people to enter the campground (after they've already been in and spent the night) in mid-festival so to speak. Did you really think you were going to be able to make us pay to get in an retrieve our things? (This person was so bad that the musicians were calling other friends/musicians and warning them ahead of time about this person.) I realize this is private property but just because it is does not mean you can change the rules in mid-stream. I would not recommend this place for anything other than camping. Do the Flipside goers get this same kind of treatment? I hope not, and I hope no one puts up with it. **EDIT** Ok, so I've heard that it was only 1 chick at the campground that was demanding money and credit cards. The other ladies *did* in fact help people out with gas money to get home so a big thank you to those ladies. This 1 person at the gate really put a bad taste in lots of people's mouths. Very family friendly and although we didn't purchase anything they have a cool two story bar where you can buy alcohol and sit on the patio by the water. This is my second review of Canyon Cove after having been here for about 9 months…read more Sure, she's got her quirks. Sometimes there are various technical issues, and my cell service is weak out here, (that's a failing in my service provider, tho) and the highway intersection at the entrance can make it tricky to get in and out. But all that just adds to her charms! It's the bird song, the fireflies, the cool breezes, the feeling remote but having fairly easy access to all that is needed... and most of all it's the people. Deb and Dave have been nothing but friendly, responsive, and they work hard to continue to make improvements to this place, and to take care of issues in an expedient manner. And our neighbors? Our neighbors have been wonderful! We've not met a single person who hasn't just been full of smiles. We truly hate to leave Canyon Cove, but life is calling us in another direction... at least for now. We hope to be back in the not too distant future and resume life in this peaceful place!
