My family and I came here recently for Mothers Day and had a wonderful time. The service was first class and the food was amazing. We had Calamari E Zucchine Fritti - The best calamari I have ever eaten so light and tasty. Eggplant Involtini - A special, get it if its on the menu when you are there it is possibly my favourite dish from this place. Garlic Pizza - Again really tasty but you will stink the next day haha. Thought it would be great after the reviews. Personally I enjoy a pizza with some crust as t least, but the pizzas are paper thin, with small portions of topping. The pasta portions are NOT generous compared to other restaurants in the area. Have eaten better in Haberfield, wouldn't go back. read more

Pizza, pasta, carne... oh my! La Disfida is busy, cosy and a place that I've been back to several times. Definitely recommend! There's a wood fire oven in the middle of the restaurant, where you can see the dough being banged out as they build each pizza from scratch. My favourite: margarita. Thin crust, cheese, tomato and one basil leaf. Delizioso! Everyday the blackboard gets updated for seasonal specials - so much yummy that I don't know where to start. I get a bit lost in translation, but the waitstaff are friendly and explain everything. I recommend leaving room for dessert as the tiramisu and chocolate crepes (I ask to swap the Chantilly cream for gelato) hit the spot. This place gets busy on weekends and, if you've got less than 6 in your group, you'll have to try your luck getting a table as they don't take bookings. read more

We went to La Disfida for the Sydney Pizza Festival, where for $20 per person, we each got a pizza and a choice of beer, red wine or moscato for the drink. We ordered the Tartufo, Diavola and Campagnello pizzas, each of them were good in their own right. I had the Tartufo and I love how the truffle oil did not overpower the pizza. At first glance, the pizza seems a bit big for just one person but because the crust was very thin, you do no get full quickly. I managed to finish mine despite not being a big eater. We got seated upstairs and we could see the bar and pizza oven, meaning we could see how the pizzas were being made and this was an added delight. The place was packed but the service was quick yet not rushed. I will definitely be coming back again and again to try their other pizza and pasta dishes. read more

Going to Haberfield in search of an Italian restaurant/pizzeria is both a glorious and difficult task. You will be overwhelmed with choice, and I'm sure it's safe to assume that whatever your choice, you wouldn't be too disappointed. But then how do you choose? You go where everyone else is, and where I'm recommending too - La Disfida. This restaurant is rustic, with a traditional Italian vibe drifting along with the aroma of the woodfired pizza oven, up the stairs to the fairy-light spangled balcony. Old framed Italian advertisements hang on the walls and dusty bottles of vintage wine rest on window ledges and mantles. Aside from their daily pasta specials, La Disfida only offers three pasta choices (one of which is a rich, melt-in-mouth gnocchi bolognaise), with their pizzas dominating the menu. The list of pizzas is extensive and each is equally tempting depending on your mood. Don't expect a billion toppings here - the flavours are strong but simple, and minimalism is where it's at. I'm not talking best meal of your life, but it's a pretty good pizza. I'm yet to have ventured on to dessert here (can never stop at just a couple of pieces of pizza) but the flourless chocolate cake, zabaglione and raspberry crème brulee made my heart cry when it realised my stomach was too full. So try La Disfida. Otherwise, try the others in Haberfield and get back to me - since La Disfida, I haven't been able to go elsewhere. read more

You used to go to La Disfida for the joy in being insulted, the previous owner wouldn't allow bookings, no half anf half and you had what he sadi on the menu not neccesarily what you asked for - it had great pizzas but was all the trouble worth going there for? Thank goodness it has been sold to new owners who are normal! Fabulous pizzas in great surroundings, a great outdoor seating area, it's now very relaxed and confortable. Large wine list and good food if you don't want pizza, a definite pleasure to eat there now. read more

Bustling doesn't even begin to describe this place, it's an incredibly hectic environment, however it's a friendly one. the list of specials hard to pick from because they all sounded so good and the regular menu was much the same. The pizzas were great, I think the pizza base was possibly one of the best I've ever eaten. The toppings, very good and generously spread without being too much. read more

My favourite pizzeria in Sydney after Lucio's in Darlinghurst. The best pizza here is the 'crudaiola' - tomato, mozzarella, fresh tomato, garlic, basil, olive oil and pine nuts. I love fresh tomato on pizza, and this one has loads and loads of it. The juiciest, freshest, most flavoursome pizza ever. read more

Great pizzas with thin bases. Breads serviced with delicious olive oil. A good selection of specials are provided each day and imported tap beer is available. Can get super busy and cramped when busy but this adds to the ambiance, and the restaurant is rather well ventilated so its not a problem. Go here. Eat pizza. Be happy :) read more

I need to get something off my chest here. I had avoided coming to La Disfida since 2006 when I had one of the worst meals of my life - it was truly an atrocious experience that I was afraid to head back, yes afraid. Even with the knowledge of new ownership, I still hesitated but when my girlfriends begged me to go to dinner with them on a Thurs night, I let up and decided to go in there with an open mind and a very healthy appetite. I'm so glad they dragged me out that night. We had an absolute ball. This place is crazy busy, so get there early to bag a table - if you're feeling a little claustro, definitely sit outside. The waiters although not the most attentive (specifically when it came to ordering refills of water) were thorough and professional. Our guy managed 4 entrees, 4 mains (all with slight mods) and 4 different wines all without batting an eyelid !!! Can someone teach me this skill please? We ordered the stuffed zucchini flowers, beet salad, olives and some whiting. And of course, I could not order anything else but a pizza to redeem my 2006 experience - suffice to say ... this was a WIN. The pizza was beautiful, the toppings enough, the mushrooms were wonderful, the fresh tomato perfect - just one minor issue, the middle of the pizza was just a tad soggy (-1 star). This was certainly not enough to detract away from the many positives this place now offers. Ohh it does get warm in here too, so perfect for those cool Autumn nights. read more

Authentic Italian win! Check the specials, they always have an eggplant dish (varying), so yum. Gnocchi and pizza both great. I'm yet to try their pasta but looking forward to it. The brand of Chinotto (dark orange soft drink) they serve is very smooth. Tiramisu is pretty spesh. They don't take reservations and can get busy so get in early. read more

Tried to book this restaurant for my sisters birthday on the 26th October at 730pm. Our booking was refused because we gave them a courtesy notice that my mum would be bringing her licensed guide dog. Your entire staff should familiarise yourself with the law. It's illegal under several policies. There was a conversation with the restaurant and the organiser who explained what a guide dog was and that it was illegal to refuse him entry into the restaurant. He was then told again that the restaurant simply refuses to have any dogs. This means the denial for booking was extremely clear, right? We made a complaint to guide dogs NSW who contacted the restaurant, spoke with the manager who insisted that the booking must've been cancelled because of the size of the booking. This is a complete and utter lie- the size of the booking was never mentioned. Check with your staff: whoever spoke to someone around 6pm on 24/10/2018 used the guide dog as a flat out reason for denying the booking. We have no reason to lie - it is the birthday girls favourite restaurant so why would we not take her there? If you are thinking of going to this restaurant, I strongly urge you to reconsider. They do not deserve your hard earned money. Please take your business to a different establishment that does not discriminate or bully. My mother's money is just as good as any other customer and she deserves to be treated with respect. Her guide dog is an essential key to her confidence and independence. Oh, and the cherry on top- the manager said they'd be happy to arrange a booking when speaking with Guide Dogs NSW. You're kidding, right? You think we'll give you money now? Get a reality check! Our party will take its business to a different restaurant that welcomes guide dogs and won't humiliate its customers. I don't care how good their food is supposed to be- please don't support this restaurant. They don't deserve it. At the very least, they don't invest time or effort into training their staff about laws that have been in place since the 90s. At the very worst, they freely discriminate and bully, then try to lie about it when caught out to avoid a well deserved fine. read more

We had a great evening at La Disfida. The staff were amazing, so attentive and knowledgeable. They recommended great Italian reds to go with our meals, thank you. Atmosphere was great, it was sooo busy and cosy which felt very authentic and great for a cold winter's night. The stuffed zucchini was excellent, and although $25 for 4 pieces seemed a little steep, its hard to fault the flavour. Gooey feta combined with crunchy nuts and a crispy outer batter...yum! The gnocchi was to die for, soft and delicate combined with delicious Bolognese sauce, a must try. The tartufa pizza was good. The thin base and smokey woodfired crust was very nice, although still not trumping our favourite in Sydney (sorry). It could have done with a little more truffle flavour, but that is coming from a bit of truffle fiend. The tiramisu is a must! We had one each and savoured every mouthful, very good. All up for three courses plus two wines each cost us $150. This did seem a bit expensive although we ate very well and had a great experience. We highly recommend this place. read more

Best local - always, always, always order one (or both) of the pizza or pasta specials. BYO with a small corkage fee otherwise they have some decent reasonably priced wines. Great vibe! read more
