I think when they say "hidden gem". They are talking about places like this. I had no idea nor heard about a BYOB until after I ordered my meal and asked for a glass of wine. While on an East Coast college tour, I wanted to find a small cozy Italian restaurant not in a big city, found it. Just outside of Denville is La Cucina, a old converted old general store that is bustling with a lively ambiance, great service and outstanding food. When. You first drive up, there is a large parking lot to start things off right. When you are seated, you notice the original framework and the sounds of the creaking woodwork. The waitress was on a chalkboard and it was brought over the table, yep. The bruschetta was our appetizer and I could have made ordered another and made it my dinner. The chicken cucina was similar and clam linguine was full of fresh claws. And the highlight was the homemade tiramosu that was made daily by one the employee's aunts. Anywhere in the Parsippany area, stop in and make sure to bring your own wine or beer, if you would like to have some with your meal.

This is a MUST TRY if you're in the area. Honestly when we arrived and saw a house, we were so impressed by the use of space. They made us feel so welcome. The food was amazing. Nothing overcooked and all well seasoned. Alicia took such good care of us. My family had: salmon, Bolognese, lasagne, chicken Mediterranean, calamari, bruschetta, and to end the oreo cheesecake and tiramisus(desert was just okay). We all left thinking when can we come back.

Absolutely delightful experience! The food is excellent. Starting with fresh mozzarella, salami, olives, warm bread and butter, I knew I was in for a treat. The pizza is plain cheese, but the flavor is outstanding! The combination is simply magical. My chicken entree was full of garlicky and buttery flavors and then my dessert was a raspberry sorbet tartufo, which was delicious. The owners and staff treat you like a kind family or friend. Such a pleasurable place to go!

My wife, stepson, and I, had a great Italian dinner here! This is a BYOB so we brought a nice bottle of red and started off the dinner with the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer. The eggplant was cooked just right with a nice red sauce. Our entrees ranged from my Spaghetti with shrimp and Broccoli Rabe, to Rigatoni Bolognese, to Veal Milanese. Everything was excellent and we even ordered dessert...the homemade Tiramisu was outstanding! This is a family owned restaurant with the owner being a chef from Sicily. His wife greeted customers and gave us background on the restaurant. People have referred to this restaurant on Yelp as being cozy, and they're spot on. Overall, a fun dinner with great Italian food at a nice location!

I also got a side of meatballs for $10, which came with 3 large meatballs in tomato sauce. Again, I would describe the quality as decent. The best part of this restaurant is the nice cozy atmosphere. It sort of feels like you're having home-cooked Italian food in Italy (and not an NJ suburb). The staff are very friendly and attentive and the service speed is fast. There is also a convenient parking lot next to the restaurant. Overall, while the food itself is fairly standard, I enjoyed the casual family vibes of this place, so it gets 4 stars from me.

When I walked in, they had Hotel California playing at a decent volume. I ordered cauliflower bites and farfalle primaverra with the addition of grilled chicken. The Greek salad which i was excited to try was plated nicely in a tower shape, tomato's , cucumbers and feta was crumbled on top. It has plenty of calamata olives, which i thought was generous . Maybe too much , I was missing anchovies and didn't bother to ask about it. The server asked me what kind of dressing do i want ? Greek of course i said. So they gave me oil and vinegar and it was spiced with the right herbs , I don't think you need to ask what dressing goes on a Greek salad , seemed obvious to me. I ate half of the salad , packed the rest . I kindly wanted to bring to the attention. To the chef that there were wayyyy too many chopped red onions . I was in the mood for Italian food, so we decided to give this place a shot. I called ahead to check availability, and I'm glad I did! We didn't have a reservation, but thankfully the manager let us know that they'd have a table ready for us around 7:20pm (it was roughly 7pm when I called). My husband and I were just down the street, so we decided to go ahead and make our way there. Once we got seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, Mike. He was very attentive and friendly! We later learned that it was his second day on the job, which we found shocking as he did such a great job! As for the food... I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana (my favorite Italian dish) and my husband ordered the Risotto Primavera. The Eggplant Parmigiana was not crispy at all, which was super disappointing! It had a great flavor, but I prefer a crispy texture so this didn't really hit the spot for me. It came with linguini noodles with tomato sauce, which was very bland. Whatever sauce they used did not have a great taste to it. As for the Risotto Primavera...it had a RICH flavor to it. My husband said "it's good, but not good enough to order again". I, on the other hand, didn't like it as I thought it was just too rich in taste. The food wasn't the best, but I'm giving them 4 stars because the overall service was fantastic! Everyone was so attentive, helpful and friendly, from the host to our server to the manager. It's rare these days to find a team where everyone is pitching in and happily doing so!

The staff is lovely, attentive without being overbearing, and helpful with recommendations or things to try. All the food is fantastic but what we got this night was: - Calamari (forgot to take a photo it was so good), which are large rings lightly battered accompanied by a gravy boat size holder of spicy marinara sauce. - Special: Homemade meat lasagna - MASSIVE and covered with lots of meat sauce. Unless you have a bottomless pit of a stomach, you will be taking half of this home. - Special: Chicken pecan - unique and fantastic.
