Great selection and super nice and helpful workers! My husband and I just purchased an indoor plant and 2 citrus trees from here. We also got a pot, soil and fertilizer helpers recommended. We'll see how they go. We are very a beginner. I don't understand why some people blame their loss of plants for this nursery...if it dies immediately like within a week, I think you could say something was wrong with it but after months later...seriously? I drive all the way here from Glendale near Eagle rock because of the friendly and attentive service! They also teach you proper care of your potted plants.. A good thing for a newbie like me... I recently bought a small tree for our backyard which Steve and his crew from La Crescenta brought over and were going to plant. He saw that it was not doing what we'd hoped for and was good enough to take it back, and then find me a much better small tree for our backyard. He and his staff were terrific. He came over to personally make sure that it was properly planted, which was appreciated and worth it. This is my local go to nursery that has been around for decades. Over this last year I renewed my love for gardening, and have been there often as an outdoor outing to browse. They have many plant offerings in a spacious nursery. What I like about this nursery is that the plant material is cared for, they have a wide selection, including some hard to find plants. Recently they had hard to find Dombeya wallichii (Pink Ball Plants) trees that were stunners, and also a good selection of natives. I'm a landscape designer and go to this nursery all the time. They have wonderful specimen plants and unusual items that I can't find at my typical wholesale nursery. The staff is knowledgeable and they are very attentive, they linger close in case you need help or have a question. You never have to go looking for help. They have a nice section of drought tolerant, Mediterranean and South Africa plants. Great variety of roses and vegetables for home gardens. I shop her because the plant material is strong, they have great mature focal trees and the knowledgeable information the staff provides in regards to insects or plant diseases is invaluable. read more

So I went here at the last minute...veered off the 210 to pick up a plant for a gift instead of the typical Vons potted plant. Pulling into the driveway I knew this was not going to be your average nursery. Everything was full of life and well-tended to. None of that dry dirt, wilted plant crap here...there are employees who obviously know plants walking around to help you find exactly what you need. One guy honed in on me and asked me what I was looking for, then once I told him I was getting a succulent for a gift, he helped me pick out an appropriate decorative pot, potted it for me, and added decorative stones to top it off. It looked gorgeous (see photo) Wish I lived nearby so I could make this place a regular favorite. read more

I've lived in La Crescenta for ten years and had NO idea this place was so great. It is HUGE and has a fantastic selection of plants, I was looking for red banana palms (ensete maurelii) and had no luck at Ace or DIY. This place had them in multiple sizes, we bought five of them! They also had a huge variety of other palms and plants that big-box nurseries and places like Armstrong don't carry. I have mixed feelings about this place. I was in the mood for some fruit tree shopping this past Sunday so I went to a few local hardware stores to find out they didn't have the trees I was looking for. I yelped the nearest nursery and this location came up and had good reviews so I thought I would stop by. As soon as I got here, there was a man waiting at the entrance who works here. I asked him to show me where the specific tress I was looking for were and he directed me to that area. Once I picked the two fruit trees I wanted I returned back to him to ask him to show me the tomato trees. I wanted his expertise because he is in that business and will know which tomatoes are better to plant to get more tomatoes but he wasn't willing to help and started laughing and said "read the labels". Once that happened I was pretty upset at how he didn't care to help me pick a good tree so I just went to pay for the two fruit trees I had picked in addition to a bag of nutrients for the trees. The lady rang me up and charged my card. As the worker was loading up my car she ran back and said she under charged me and she needs to void the transaction and re charge me the correct amount. I asked if I can just pay the difference in cash even though it was her mistake and technically once a transaction is completed you cant go back and add additional charges. But she refused and said she had to void the transaction. It's the principle that counts, if you cant charge people correctly the first time maybe you shouldn't have a cashier position. It was a hassle and took way longer then expected because she under charged me $10. I really didn't mind paying the $10 but felt like it was unnecessary to void the transaction and recharge me when I had offered her to pay in cash instead. That being said, the reason I am giving them two stars is because the nursery is very big and they have HUGE selection of trees, plants, flowers, fruit trees, name it they have it! I may need to look for another nursery for my future purchases due to this unfortunate experience. read more

You know when you've moved and you need to find your local resources all over again, but the places you find are subpar or just don't cut it? That's this girl. I have absolutely missed my old nursery. I took it for granted. I've tried other places, but they were like large gift shops with lots of pottery. I went looking for indoor plants. I bumped into Evelyn who graciously suggested and helped me pick out my plants. I was looking for a little oxygen plant. They didn't have it, but she asked so that she could possibly order them for me! Amazing. She was knowledgeable, sweet, and very helpful. This place has a ton of plants to choose from. Rare to common and they are well taken care of. I will definitely be going back, suggesting them to my friends hands down. I found my local nursery yay! Come here, the plants are good, prices not too bad, and they have a good variety, and the communication is excellent here. read more

We needed to replace a huge tree that was lost. Joel showed us 2 beautiful trees in 24" boxes- both 10+ feet high. We went with the "Peppermint" tree. We showed Steve the stone steps that would need to be navigated and he gave us a delivery and planting price. It was not an easy installation but every issue was addressed and handled. The tree is gorgeous. We are very happy that we not only purchased the tree from La Crescenta, but had them deliver and plant it. It could have been a nightmare. We are thrilled with everything...our back courtyard is back to being beautiful. The nursery is huge and the service is top notch. read more

If price is an issue, this is not the place for you. Found the very same cymbidium orchid at Trader Joe's for half price. Yes.Yes. I know TJ's is a big company and have scale. But the very same orchid was $20 cheaper! That is hard to ignore. Also, it bothered me that they don't have a proper accounting system. The person helping me tallied up my sale on a calculator. Bought bamboo plant for a gift and IT WAS FILTHY! but it was late & it was the only one & i had read good reviews so was willing to go there for a last minute gift. WRONG! Even though i bought a gift plant inside the store i couldnt get a small card free as i would at any other florist! the employee wouldnt clean the plant and wanted me to pay 1$ for the card! Im wondering if mayb thats not case but the employee was going to pocket it. He seemed real lazy. I had 2 stop by home & used up FIVE dish towels to clean it and it still wasnt clean! Large an spacious nursery. I was hunting around for a place that sold sod and other assorted plants and La Crescenta Nursery was the best of the best in the area. The place is seriously huge with and a large indoor and outdoor section. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I'm no plant expert but I thoroughly enjoyed their inventory and I spent almost an hour walking around and seeing all the plants. Beautiful and very large nursery, but expensive. I was here a few weeks ago. Saw a few cactus plants that I loved, and have not seen those particular types at other nurseries. I do think the prices are high as I bought a bag of polished rocks to decorate over the soil of a few cactus/succulent plants. I didn't have enough, and ended up at Virgil's in Glendale yesterday and the same exact bag of rocks was $3 cheaper. I also thought the potter section here was weak. Highly recommend for the plants, but you can do much better on rocks and pots elsewhere. My two very favorite places for pots are Sunset Nursery in Silverlake, and International Nursery in El Segundo. The latter is quite a drive from Glendale, but worth it. read more

Then she helped me pick out my lavender plant. They, then carried everything out to my car, and reminded me to get a bag of potting soil! I'm baffled as to why there are negative reviews- all of our experiences here have been extremely positive...knowledgeable kind staff, a great selection (we purchased a Fuyu persimmon tree and a cherimoya tree which I doubt can be found just everywhere) and a wonderful place to walk around. We always enjoy our visits, and are repeat customers. I encourage everyone to go and see for themselves and to disregard the negative comments - In my experience they are completely unfair and unmerited. I was looking for a midknight seedless valencia orange tree. I had tried 5 other places and they were the only place that had one. In fact, they had several to choose from and the price was very reasonable compared to the only other place that had one. I love this place! They have a wide variety of pretty much everything. I found out about this place through yelp and I've been there 4 times since. I love their soil selection too - my fave is their Palm, Cactus & Citrus mix. Great fruit and shade tree selection too. The only two things that I am taking a star off for are - price and no returns :( Have fun though - it takes a while to go through the grounds. read more
