I feel like La Mirada is a very up to date city with many great features for the public. But one thing that needs to get torn down and re done is the La Mirada Public Library. The building looks quite old from the outside but when you walk inside it looks almost exactly what I would picture it as in the 60's. This place looks ancient!! I know we don't have much money for a new library but maybe change it up a little bit. Put new carpet, rugs and maybe just take all the wood furniture out. :) I think it would brighten this place up. The books well the selection of books is quite limited. I was a little bit on the surprised side to see that the children section was not filled with many books! This library needs a lot of help and I hope to see this place change in my lifetime at least.

Before Seester got transferred here, I'd never visited before. She made it through the remodel and the grand reopening, and the library itself is now a bright, cheerful, modernized place for the community. The children's section is good sized, with tables and chairs, as well as computers, scaled down to children's smaller statures. The childrens section librarian, Robert, has see to a beautifully done portion of the library that is crucial to the success of our greatest asset - our kids. The teen section is smaller but well defined and is a cheery and comfortable place to read or study with a great selection of YA fiction and non fiction. The generalized portion of the library comes with a ton of seating options and lots more media than I've seen in libraries before. Additionally, the checkout system has gone the way of the self checkout, allowing clients to speed through the process. I really can't say enough good about this library, and not just because Seester works here! Really worth sitting and relaxing with the company of a good book if you can. Highly recommend.

The La Mirada Library is part of the LA County Library system. They have a helpful and friendly staff and librarians. There is also a super manager who stays active with the library staff. There is a great children's area that is separate from the adult section. They also have a meeting room that is huge! They have a great selection of books, large print, audio CDs, DVD for checkout and New Releases for $1 rental that goes back into the library fund for events, services and materials. The only bummer is that Friday hours have been cut due to funding cut backs in the county. That is why it is so important to Support Your Local Library!

    Play dough at the library.

Story time at 11am on Wednesdays. Amy the librarian read several stories, did a large motor song and had play dough out at the end. They were also able to read and play with toys/puzzles. Hoping maybe one less story and a flannel board, instruments or finger plays will be added. Sitting time is too long for the age group. Lovely librarian with lots of potential. We will be back.

If you've never been, you should check out the La Mirada Resource Center and Regional Park. The "Splash" water park is now up and running and the city does a lot of nice things for it's citizens. The library is across from town hall. Moderately sized book collection, lots of great and current movies to rent (only $1), friendly and helpful staff, and fast and free wi-fi for residents. The lobby always has an interesting display; the 1st time I went there it was a Mr. Potato Head collection. The water drinking fountain is real cold and the bathrooms are kept clean. I still haven't completely pieced together the connection between large book collections and #2.

I usually go to the city library but I'm very close to county so occasionally I like to go. I've had a few visits here and staff is not approachable. It seems like they try to avoid you or just me. Lol The librarian is also not helpful. 1 years after my first bad experience with him. I approach his desk and just like the first time. He's in conversation with same lady and I walk up smiling waiting to be acknowledged. I ask my question and his response "it's not that easy" well no sh*t that's why I'm asking.... The books are not organized by A.R points, grade or age. Its sections with categories/subjects... 1st grade books are mixed with 5th grade even 6th. I have a 3rd grader. He's not going to search one by one to find a book. I usually put him in the 3rd/4th grade section and let him browse. I spent 30 minutes going book by book checking grade level The city library has books by grade level. I'm willing to donate some volunteer time to get the county library the same. Yelp 2020 3/100

The sound of the water and the dolphin family sculpture is so tranquil, and because I really connect with dolphins, it honestly felt like the perfect welcome. Right when you walk inside, the artwork in the glass displays pulls you in. It's creative, organized, and just visually nice to take in. As you wander further in, the large aquarium connected to the children's section is another standout -- it adds this calm, magical feel to the space. I grabbed a magazine and found a quiet window seat, and those 30 minutes of zero calls, zero texts, zero noise? Pure heaven. I didn't realize how much I missed just sitting and reading without a single interruption. Before heading out, I checked out the psychology and cooking sections, and it reminded me how much I've always loved libraries and bookstores. The whole visit made me want to get a library card and come back once a month just to enjoy that peaceful moment. I could've spent hours just checking out each section. If you want a quiet, beautiful place to escape for a bit, this library is it.
