Definitely a hole in the wall. I ended up ordering 1 taco camaron (shrimp). Once I got my order I didn't realize how small it was. I even asked the guy that's it, thinking that I was missing something. I should have ordered like three of them. The taste was so flavorful I had to order another one. The asada has good flavor, shrimp burrito felt a little bland, possibly because the guy suggested with out cheese and that was how we ordered it. When I "pinged" a local, he said, "I've eaten at both, but I prefer this location." Tacos: $1.00. Super Burritos: $3.50. Get the idea? Great deals! Like its sister location, 12 tables outside, and 4 inside. At this location, I had a Super Quesidilla ($3.50), which was different than the standard Bay Area fare. This was more like a burrito... lots of carne asada (grilled steak), lettuce, a little tomato, and I added avocado (an extra .25 cents). This location also offers numerous fish specials not offered at its Grantline locale: seafood tostadas for $3 - $4; and seafood Cocktails for $7 - $12. La Costa is definitley one of Tracy's hotspots! There is always a long line of eager patrons and a parking lot full of cars. We happened to stumble upon this local legend while driving through Tracy. The smell of carne asada and sounds of mariachi music blaring was enough to make us want to give La Costa a shot. The sign actually looked familiar- and then we realized that this is a sister restaurant of our beloved La Costa here in San Jose. I know it's not nice to have favorites- but Tracy is our favorite! We went inside to try to order because it was over 100 degrees outside. LOL 4 tables, supplies stacked in the corner, no menu, and no way to order. We felt stupid.. we went back outside. We liked the visual appearance and we LOVED the hand painted menu on the wall above the order window. The music being piped in was a nice touch but I couldn't hear them announcing orders over it :-( I don't know what type of music it was, it was upbeat and pleasant but it was in Spanish so I only understood every 12th word or so. The clientele looked friendly and non-threatening. They were all Hispanic which I thought spoke to the quality of the food. We were there at around 4:30pm on a Wednesday though not "late night" This isn't the WORST part of Tracy, I am honestly not sure if it's really dangerous I wouldn't be afraid to go at any time of day myself. The tacos were $1.00 which made me realize they were what Rubios calls "Street Tacos" in about 4 bites they're gone. That's fine they ARE only $1.00 just eat 4 of them! :-) So we ordered 8 carne asada tacos, 4 for the handsome man and 4 for me, and 2 carne asada burritos. I think the Carne Asada burritos were around $3.75. I was SHOCKED sodas were $1.00 so was Horchata! Mmm! Refills were .50 but hey that's just fine with me I don't expect them to be free when the original soda was only $1.00. We didn't get sodas though.. our order was taken by a friendly man behind the window and came out BLAZINGLY fast considering we were just one order of about 3 that were in at the time. We got it to go so off we went with our bags. On the way home we were drooling because the Carne Asada smelled SO good Mmm!! Sadly.. when we got home and ripped into it the tacos weren't very good they had some sort of red sauce on them that ruined the flavor a little. I made some fresh Pico De Gallo to go with it hoping it would help, it did a little but not much. The meat wasn't particularly flavorful either. OK Burrito time! A little better than the tacos but not amazing. I did like the beans in it VERY much and I normally don't like beans at all. Summary: Great prices!! Friendly Service!! Upbeat atmosphere!! OK food. I would go to Rubios for their carne asada street tacos and Baja Fresh for burritos next time I think :-( sorry.. I REALLY hate going to chain restaurants but at least from what I tasted they're better than La Costa, I'll keep looking for a great non-chain place. When I'm in Tracy to visit my folks, I make it a habit to go to La Costa. Excellent mexican food! Their tortillas are great. Being a Vegan (which is soooooo rare in Tracy), I get a Vegetarian burrito sin queso y crema pero con guacamole. Mmmmm mmmm. I know they probably throw in some animal product somewhere but, hey, its hard to be 100% especially in good ol' Tracy, CA. If only they had more vegetarian choices (Tofu Ranchero perhaps). The carne asada tacos are so good and they're only $1.25! The meat isn't too fatty and the red sauce compliments it well. It's not very spicy but it has good flavor.I'm so glad my husband and I found a new taco spot. Seating is outdoors so the only downside are the flies, but I don't mind it that much. read more

This is my go-to place for lunch during the work week. They really know how to throw in the best flavors for a juicy, sloppy, giant burrito. I've also had their tacos, of which I am a fan. But I primarily go there for their $3.75 burritos. The thing that sets their burritos apart from others is that it's soft and squishy. It's full of refried beans and sour cream, so instead of having a firm, dense burrito, you get a burrito you can slurp up! Now, I know that sounds really gross, but it's really nice, especially if you're like me and your jaw gets tired from too much chewing. Best part for me? Grilled onions! Yumm. Throw in hot sauce and squeeze on some limes, and you've got one tasty meal. Sometimes I think about making the 30 minute drive to Tracy on the weekends for this guy... but I fight the urge and wait for Monday, heh. So that was the good. Where's the bad? Cash only. The place is very dirty, so take your food to go. Also, the establishment is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. I mean, I understand cultural character and all, but what is that orange-framed plastic sheet about? Or what about that horrendously large sign? We're not in Las Vegas. Also, stop watering your parking lot every morning. You're wearing down the asphalt, and it doesn't look any better than before you sprayed it down. I totally love this place! Being from a Mexican family (on my mom's side) I KNOW what "authentic" should taste like...and oh man this stuff is authentic, right down to the ginormous horchata I can get for only $2!! There is indoor seating as well as outdoor. The service is very quick, but the last time we went they gave my avocado and cheese to my husband's burrito and not mine. Seriously, I am now requesting to be buried with a Burrito from La Costa, but only the one here in Tracy at this location. And the restaurant business is not always the most lucrative especially if you are a small restaurant where your prices are a STEAL. My favorite place to come get tacos or burritos! My family and I found our go to place lol. They do only take cash though so make sure you go to the atm or something before coming. I love getting the steak tacos with everything on it. The tacos do originally come with the red sauce which is super spicy! But i love it, so worth the pain of spiciness. You can sub it for the green sauce though if you're not into spicy food or too spicy. The burritos are also very well made. LOVE LA COSTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was introduced to La Costa at least 10 years ago, while I was out there visiting my boyfriends family. He insisted that we get the shrimp ceviche. WOW!! Since my first bite of the ceviche I was hooked. I do not live in Tracy, or the central valley but I make it a point to stop and get this amazing ceviche every time I pass through. They do not skimp on the shrimp, and it is big pieces of shrimp. There is the perfect amount of shrimp, tomato, onions, cucumber, lime, cilantro, and jalapeno. I have also had pastor tacos, carne asada tacos, carne asada quesadillas, and those are so good too! I have introduced a few different people to La Costa too, and they are now hooked as well! Only down fall is it is cash only, which I forgot sometimes. Other than that, no complaints! You must try this place! read more

Yeah- I read some of the reviews and I'm a little confused...I have lived in Tracy almost 7 years and out of those seven years I've only been here twice...and both times I have thought "meh. pretty crappy." Nothing special, nothing super great, the tacos are really mediocre, the burritos are horrible (both times btw) and there so called quesadilla is really a burrito. Super sloppy.
