This place is considered a hidden gem and total hole in the wall place. They have really good seafood. This is probably their specialty. The coctel my dad says is one of the best he has tried. The ceviche here is great it has actual chunks of fish its not blended like most places. I have also tried their chiles rellenos. These are so good and they are very authentic. They taste very similar to my moms which I love. The quesadillas are really good too and they have queso fundido on the outside edges. So good. read more

My dad used to come here years ago. We had stopped going because they had closed down for a few days. We recently started going back because my husband liked the menudo. Well after 3 tries we will not be going back. I ordered chilaquiles and to my surprise it came with extra protein. As I was enjoying them I found a huge roach I couldn't be more disgusted. I immediately called and she offered to make me new ones no thanks I want my money and you can keep your roach. Let's start by costa azul was my go to for menudo. The price was reasonable and taste was decent . I haven't had menudo from them in about 7 months. Woke up today and decided to hit them up. I ordered 2 menudos no pata and w maíz. Placing my order was very easy , staff friendly and price still reasonable. However once I got home to enjoy out menudos gotta say what a huge disappointment. The taste was horrible- the broth smelled bad and the tripe was just as bad. At first I thought it was me . but I kept tasting, it was clear that the menudo was not fresh. It almost tastes like them mixed different batches of menudo. We couldn't continue even trying the menudo. My husband was going to drive back and have them taste the menudo but we live about 10 -15 mins away so we decided to get rid of the food va going in and making a fuss and demand a refund. Let me tell you save your money this is not the place for menudo anymore. read more

Very clean restaurant, served immediately, drinks were brought right away along with chips and a mild tasty salsa. Waitress was nice, food was brought in a timely manner. We ordered La Costa Azul Special. It's grilled shrimp, steak, rice, beans, salad and hand made tortillas. Everything was good except the rice felt like it needed more seasoning. Also it would be really nice if they gave you the salad in a different plate so that it's not warm and you can add your dressing without missing it with the rice and meats. We got ranch and it was in a generic special value bottle and that kind of turned us off. Maybe next time just give it to the customers in a small cup or sauce tray. I ran into this place when hanging out w a buddy. We wanted to grab a beer, and this was the first place we ran into. When we walked into, we were asked to sit in a specific section of the place -- it seems that the restaurant part of closes down earlier and they just have the bar space open. Fine by me, I just want a drink. We were seated at a table that really needed to be wiped down, though we again didn't complain. The table had a little advert for their drink specials, one of which was a margarita, so I ordered one of those. About 10 minutes later the margarita came out, and it was the worst. It was so watered/iced down that I just could not kill it. When the waitress eventually came back (she was slow!) I told her my drink was weak, so I asked for a beer. She said ok and never returned with my beer. Meanwhile, my buddy complained his drink was ok, but not something he'd order again. about 20 minutes later the waitress returned with our tab, no beer in sight. I paid and walked out. Also, apparently it was kareoke night. There were a bunch of older hispanic people really belting some crappy songs. I don't care about that as much as the poor service and poor drinks. read more

Had lunch at this tiny restaurant yesterday. You won't find a lot of fine dining up this way, what you will find is scores of Mexican restaurants and taquerias. I went here based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. Their salsa was delicious with a roasted flavor. I had fish ceviche to start which was tangy and delicious. For a main I had Costillas de Puerco en Salsa Rojo (pork ribs in red sauce). This was fabulous. The meat fell of the ribs and the sauce had a home-cooked savory flavor. I could be a bit spicier for me, so I simply added some of their excellent salsa. I had a hibiscus agua fresca to drink which is a refreshing change of pace from the standard sodas you typically find. I highly recommend this place. read more

I would like to state that I didn't dine here but would like to share an experience that occurred with one of the staff. So I parked my vehicle in the superior market shopping center, was minding my own business when a staff from this restaurant walked up to my car. As soon as he walks up to me starts asking me "who the hell are you, what the f**k are you doing here and so on. Clearly I don't even know this guy. Not sure if the guy was on drugs or what he was thinking. I knew he worked there because after he finally left me alone he went back to this location and continued cleaning the restaurant. He was a male in his late 30's and seemed very hostile. He was wearing a raider hat on this particular evening. If this is the treatment they give people who mind their own business, one can only imagine what to expect if one was an actual customer. AVOID this ghetto as place! Got off work on a Friday and my sister and I were really craving some Mexican. We stumbled upon this place..thanks to the help of some fellow Yelpers. It's not in the nicest area, but as soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by one of the waitresses and promptly seated. She brought out some chips and salsa which were very good. Salsa was well made with lots of flavor, but beware of the spice! For beverages we ordered an horchata and a michelada. Both were perfect! My sister ordered one of the combination plates that came with 1 enchilada, 1 tostada, and one sope. I ordered the camarones al mojo de ajo and 1 cheese enchilada. My sister really liked her food, especially the enchilada. My camarones were grilled to perfection and full of flavor. The beans and rice that it came with were tasty as well. I, on the other hand, wasn't too crazy about the enchilada...so I guess it's preference? Not sure why reviews say the food is expensive. It is pretty standard pricing considering everything is handmade and the portions are huge! Everyone is friendly, food was delicious, drinks were on point! I've been searching for a place with good ceviche in the valley for awhile! I finally found one! It's still a bit of a drive for me deeper into the valley but it's much better than driving into East LA! As many of the other reviews mentioned, It's the chunky ceviche and it tastes fresh. I have nothing else to say other than I really enjoyed it and I'd come back often for more! I didn't give it 5 only because it still didn't beat my top spot:) I'm a big eater and also had some chicken tacos. And the chicken was delicious!! Tasted freshly cooked:) read more

Friendly staff. Not so good food. Crowded dining area. Tables aren't cleaned up right after. Pretty pricey for not so good food. Parking is ok. I ordered the coctel de camaron and it was way too sweet and watery. Good amount of shrimp but pricey overall for $14. You can get the same if not better at other restaurants for about $10. The costa azul special was about $20 and a complete rip off! 5 butterflied shrimp, baby scallops, tilapia and clams on the flat grill which would have been good if it was about $14 max. The beans were ok and the rice was overcooked and split. It also came with flour tortillas which I was hoping it'd be corn. Salsa was good which came with the food. Honestly, I really wanted to like this place but it was a complete disappointment. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone based on my food selections. Sorry. read more

I was craving menudo. Badly. So I had to find a place that has it during the week (most places only have it on the weekend). So yelpers give this place 4.5 stars....it should be pretty good huh? Well after about 10 minutes I finally got the complimentary chips and salsa. Service seems kinda slow. Finally served 20 minutes in to this adventure. The help area not friendly. Definitely no tip is in her future. Finished eating and the food is not good. The Corn tortillas appear to be homemade but they were all soggy, the menudo didn't have any hominy and it was obviously reheated frozen food, the hot sauce was bland even though it looked like it should be very spicy, the corn chips were stale, and the chopped onion they brought for the menudo was not freshly chopped...it was prechopped some days ago. I could tell because it was all slimy & translucent. I ate about half the bowl of menudo. It's a big bowl. Edible to certain degree...but definitely not very good. I won't be back. I would have been better off getting a combo bowl at yoshinoya. You would too. The only thing I can say is everyone who gave this place so many stars must be insane. I've eaten at several Mexican restaurants based on yelpers recommendations and they've mostly been mediocre to shitty. DONT GO HERE! I stopped by with my girlfriend to get a quick meal. We ordered the Agua chiles and the breaded shrimp. This was a week night and the place was empty, we waited 45 min for our meal! To make matters worse, once we actually got the Aqua chiles, I was about to take my first bite when i pulled out a long black hair from my food. It was literally between the shrimp & the avocado. I'm Not one to send food back, but this was disgusting. The breaded shrimp - 4 butterflied shrimp that were anything but appetizing & the rest of the plate was salad and rice. THE HAIR did it for me. This little hole in the wall didn't disappoint!! I'm a HUGE ceviche fan and I wanted to give this place a chance after reading the few reviews that mention their ceviche. I had one fish and one shrimp ceviche tostadas. They were both excellent. I love the fact that they use chunks of fish as opposed to the ground up mushy stuff. Not to say the mushy kind is bad, but I just prefer the chunky style ceviche. The best mushy ceviche can be found at Mariscos Rosarito on San Fernando Rd. in San Fernando. Costa Azul is definitely worth a try if your in the mood for ceviche. Can't really comment on the rest of the menu but it looked like your standard mariscos spot. read more

It's located on the corner of laurel canyon and osborne. Now that it's summer time ya either gotta throw some meat on the grill or eat some seafood. They're prices are okay , but it's worth it. This place has a B rating for a reason! It's also in a bad area.. trash everywhere. The table was dirty and sticky as we sat down.
