Every now and again my wife and I stop in for some street tacos that are slow roasted on a spit out front. The fun for us is that I get to practice my Spanish. Most of the times we've come here, the staff do not speak English. I enjoy it. The food is always very delicious and not pretentious. Great service. This is an experience and at the end you can browse the grocery store next door. We grabbed a chicharon that was about a foot wide and close to 2 feet long... one piece... I really wanted to leave a good review because I had been here previously a couple years back and the food had been good but today, it was not good at all :( this restaurant is located in a plaza and has lots of parking. Upon arriving, the restaurant was empty and there was no workers to be seen. After checking out the menu on the screen, a worker came out and took my order. I ordered a burrito with Al pastor meat. It took about 10 minutes to get the food. The burrito was huge!! And I was super excited to dig in. The rice and beans were good but the meat was not. It was dry, seemed like it was either old or reheated a couple times before being served. Did not taste good and the burrito was extremely greasy. For meat that was dry...I don't understand where it was coming from but the oil was dripping at the bottom of the burrito. I didn't even end up finishing it and was completely disappointed. The Seattle burrito scene is dismal, but you can buy any of the taco meats by the pound and restaurant sized burrito shells in the market next door to make your own at home. These tacos are the real deal. Freshly made, fiery in flavor, and on the cheap- the whole menu. It's inside a Mexican grocery store and has a pretty decently sized space with lots of seating. Parking isn't an issue either since it's in a complex (next to Fred Meyer on PacHwy) with a private parking lot. Only 12 reviews so far, so it's a hidden gem. The menu has a lot of different things, but I'm here to taco bout tacos (overused pun, I know). Each meat is robust and has that homemade kind of flavor. You see a guy outside by the entrance working the grill, which is pretty cool. Also, the salsa bar has everything you need to add flavor to your tacos- diced onions, cilantro, cucumber, red onions, and salsas all to your liking. Eat them while they're hot! If you're down with Tacos Chukis or Taco Street, then this place might be for you. It has a more local what-you-see-is-what-you-get feel. That said, it's not trying to appeal to a CapHill or Ballard crowd, if you get my meaning. I stopped in here after work yesterday (Saturday) to grab a few pounds of Ranchera and came across a little stand with tamales and these fried tacos, 5 for $2.00. There is a salsa bar, several different types of salas. Friendly staff. Boyfriend had tacos and got tamales. He had the chicken and jalapeno and cheese. He liked the jalapeno and cheese best. As authentic as it gets. It's probably the most authentic mexican restaurant I've been to thus far. The restaurant is in the corner of a mexican grocery store (which was fun to browse through while you're digesting). It's a little intimidating walking in if you aren't mexican.. We took a while looking at the menu and the lady was still very nice about it! We had great service and the food was amazing. We ordered 10 tacos (they're about 1.60 each) and the enchiladas plate, which came up to be $30. Pretty pricey but totally worth the quality. It tasted home made... Like made with love lol, it was comforting, balanced, hot, everything you wish mexican food to be. Out of the two kinds of tacos we ordered, I liked the asada most while my bf liked the pastor most. I like the taste of the meat and their asada doesn't overuse seasoning where it masks the food. Their asada is straight up asada--dat natural meat taste mm. The pastor was sweeter; it had pineapples and had a lot more umami than I prefer, but it was still extremely good. The enchiladas came with a side of rice and beans and a ton of verde sauce. It was really good. I'm dying to try all their other dishes! We had a good time here! Amazinggggggg food and kind service. Two days later and I'm still dreaming about their asada tacos... I get extremely excited when I spot a taqueria that is associated with (or even in close proximity to) a carniceria, panaderia, or supermercado. La Central Taqueria is attached to La Central Tienda Mexicana, so I had high hopes that I might have struck taco gold. At roughly $1.50/taco, I ordered 2 pastor, 2 carnitas, and 2 asada tacos. They had a larger selection of meats than anywhere I've seen in Washington, but I stuck with the basics for my first visit. Fixings: -The two corn tortillas on each taco were of good quality, and appropriate pre-heat was applied prior to serving. The tacos were topped with freshly chopped onions and cilantro, and fresh lime wedges on the side. They also brought me 3 different salsas in squeeze bottles, and I liked all three. Basic prerequisites were met. Meats: -The asada was underwhelming - slightly dried out and underseasoned. The serving size was unusually large. (Note: I cannot find good asada hardly anywhere. Please share if you know a place). -The pastor was pretty standard. I really like pastor, so I liked my tacos, but nothing about them was outstanding. -The carnitas was above average, but just barely. Not dried out, but not too fatty. They had the flavor and consistency of my grandmother's pot roast - super rich. This style of carnitas, while totally delicious, is just not really what I am looking for when I want tacos. This is solely a matter of personal taste, and not taco execution, so I will give them credit for successful carnitas. The service was good. As a taco snob from California, I can only give La Central Taqueria 3 stars. It's worth a try if you're in the area. read more

Delicious, authentic Mexican food! The restaurant is tucked into La Central Tienda and has a very simple aesthetic. You walk up to the front counter to order (where they have an array of delicious juices), then find a seat and your food will be brought to you when ready. There's a salsa bar and toppings in the corner (beware, the habanero salsa is HOT). I ordered tacos carnitas, rice and beans, and a papaya juice. It was all delicious, and the tacos were very generous portions. My sister got the enchiladas verdes and a piña juice, which were also great. I've missed authentic Mexican food so much since moving from Tri-Cities, and I will definitely be back to enjoy it here again! read more

I've had my fare share of tacos at many taquerias from the east side to the south sound and La Central is the one that keeps me coming back. You must eat them while they're hot. If my friends and family asked me where to go for tacos it would be without hesitation, La Central. In fact, bf and I have frequented this place at least twice a week for months straight this year. Though, we've been a regular for a few years now. Knocked one star off because their salsa bar is not always up and I love the salsa bar lol. Man I love this place. I was apprehensive at first to check this out but I am glad I grew some b@lls. I wasn't sure what to expect since it's right on Pac Hwy, but the dude grilling a giant kabob of meat right outside the front doors called to me like that skunk chick who called Pepe Le Pew. I soon learned that hunk of burning meat was going to be ingested by me in form of tacos. I had tacos al pastor as well as the more adventurous tongue and cheek. All crispy and delicious. You know it's legit when the taqueria is filled with its own people. Good customer service and food was really really good. We got carne asada tacos and husband got a torta! They have watermelon and melon juice and of course my favorite orchata! They also sell lots of different sweets at this restaurant. Our only suggestion is to wipe tables down more often. When we went looking for a table, many tables were still not cleaned. But overall this place was awesome! A store connected with all the Mexican favorites! We bought fresh tamales to go in the market too! They have pan dulce Mexican pastries along with so much more. This will def be a regular spot for us now! Enjoy! read more

This place has deeeeeelicious tacos al pastor. They're have the real deal too...the seasoned pork is cooked on a spit right out side of the taqueria, and it has the pineapple sitting on top, so its cooked just right and they dice up just the right amount to give the taco a sweet tangy-ness. Order yours with everything (they come with cilantro, pineapple, and onions on them, and some lime, radish, & cucumber as a garnish. With just one bite you'll be in heaven (but don't stop there)! They give you several salsas to play with and what can i say? Its just the bomb! Try it! One other detail- I've only been here on weekends so I'm not sure if the al pastor cooked outside is a weekend special only, but I'm sure its just as good cooked inside. read more

They are making fresh Al Pastor tacos right outside the restaurant/store. Each taco is topped with fresh pineapple chunks, chopped cilantro and onions. I checked reviews before coming because I never been here. I've had a negative experience and was wondering if I was at the right place because everybody else have had better experiences than me. But I know this was the right place after reading how others described it I ordered my food to-go. If I were to stay I would be to uncomfortable. The service was absolutely terrible. The woman did not greet me. She came to the counter and "what do you want" I told her I wanted a tamale. (Their whole menu is in Spanish) I asked her did they have pork. She said how many. I told her only 1. She asked is that all. Like she was in such a rush. I said no, I would like 6 carne asada tacos and a side of beans and rice. Came out to $17 and some change. While waiting for my food I noticed a salsa bar. With only plastic lids. No plastic cups to take with. So I asked her for some cups. She insisted she would include salsa in my order. I did not want additional service from her because I knew I wouldn't be pleased and she just didn't have it in her to satisfy my needs. My food came. I saw only one of each salsa about 1oz containers for my 6 tacos, tamale and rice and beans. I need a lot of salsa in case the food is lacking in flavor. In this case, it definitely was. I asked her for extra salsa and she rudely gave me one more. That isn't gonna cut it for me. So I took it upon myself to put salsa from the salsa bar in my container with the rice and beans and left. -for the food. It wasn't that great. Only thing I really appreciated was the spicy salsa.
