This is a photo of their rolling cart menu! Retro and Fabulous!

Another great meal at La Cave! Love this place which is located underground and deliciously mysterious. You can walk down or take the elevator. Food is consistently superb. Chef is wonderful. We had the broiled halibut and NY steak. Their dinner salad and garlic cheese bread is delicious. The ambiance is retro bar with TVs and red leather booths. Wait staff is experienced and friendly.

Brings back the feel of restaurants with a dark moody vibe. Kind of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis,Jr. era. Honestly doesn't look like much from the exterior. It's the elevator ride down & the doors open to a very different era. Hence the red hue to all the photos. My iPhone was not able to color correct even close to reality. Entrees selections are showcased on a glass enclosed cart, reminiscent of old school restaurants. Back in the day, the gentleman's menus listed prices, while the women's menu did not. Probably due to extreme price fluctuations of product, prices were not listed. Saves on menu reprinting too, I imagine. A bit uncomfortable as a guest though. Really wanting my fav rib eye steak (16 oz.!), I took the plunge. Had the pear flower martini. Love a good cocktail when eating out. This one didn't disappoint. Had a sip of my MIL's raspberry lemon martini. Tasted like candy. This one could be dangerous since you're not even aware it contains alcohol. The wine list wasn't over the top. Every affordable. You can find a decent glass of wine. We did by the glass Pinot Noir & Merlot. The list may not please a high end wine connoisseur. Started with the shrimp cocktail appetizer. 4 plump, moist jumbo shrimp (u13-14) sat atop a robust cocktail sauce & lettuce mix. Loved this combo. If you're a true cocktail sauce lover, you'll need to poke around though. Personally I like a little lettuce for textural contrast. Dinner entrees come with soup or salad. Photos can't do justice due to lighting. Nice iceberg lettuce with beets & cuc. Since the soups are house made, I ordered the navy beans & ham soup. Perfectly uniform pieces of ham means someone back of house has serious knife skills or they used a chopper. Not knowing the prices, my MIL & I did order the 16oz. Rib eye & twice baked potato (house specialty). Our steaks were presented as ordered. Seasoned well, juicy & well marbled. A winner. Although the twice baked is a signature, it was a bit over-broiled. Next time I'll get the baked potato or rice pilaf. My brother-in-law really liked the pilaf. Yes we are Asian, mostly eating plain white rice. But we can appreciate rice cooked well. Not dry, sticky or over watered. Shared the double chocolate cake. Rich dark chocolate, dollops of whipped cream. Very shareable. Although the pricing wasn't listed, I'd return in a heartbeat. As many locals do. A stones through from Newport, it's a great little steakhouse. Old school, dark & cozy. On a Tuesday night, most men came in wearing hoodies or casual jackets. Besides, a 16oz. Ribeye dinner well prepared at $67 is a great value.

I have never ever had a bad meal here. The team is always spot on. The shrimp scampi is by far the best anywhere I've ever had. We absolutely love it. Our Server Edgar was very kind and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. We love this place. It's always a special treat! Lobster...$95 over cooked and bland.

Steak was great! Order steak if you go here. I first ordered crab legs which were dry, order cooked and bland. I sent them back and ordered the lobster for $95...what a joke. It was also over cooked and flavorless. Wife had a filet and it was really good. Salad was good, cheese bread was ok. The comped a glass of wine for the bad crab legs. Service really good, 5 star...loud atmosphere with very low ceilings and super old school vibe. If we return, I would probably get there at 4:30 when they open, get a steak and a cocktail...the cheese cake for birthday girl was great and we enjoyed it.

We're delighted that we finally visited La Cave; not having looked at all of the interior pictures, it was truly an adventure approaching the door, walking downstairs, into ... the (dimly-lit) cave! Service by the entire staff was marvelous from the start: the cheerful-&-welcoming hostess, our friendly-&-attentive (and appreciatively unrushed) server, the sharp-&-efficient support staff, and even a visit from (our thoughts) the manager -- so elegantly old school! Given the ambiance, it was fitting starting with a classic martini as our apertif (great, by the way); in addition, we ordered Sauteed Mushrooms (nicely seasoned and so tasty). Their soup of the day, Manhattan Clam Chowder, was unlike any we'd tasted (thicker in consistency and comfort-food delicious). Between the 2 of us, our selected entrees: 9 oz. Filet Mignon and 16 oz. Boneless Ribeye; both were generous in size, cooked as requested, tender, and full of flavor (my husband noted his ribeye was well-marbled, extremely juicy, and the best steak he's had in a while). Our menus did not include prices (yikes!), yet I see posted pictures of menus with prices. Disappointed by more-&-more of the restaurants we've turned to for their food, service, and ambiance -- especially for special celebrations, it's wonderful discovering La Cave remains a nostalgic, romantic classic.

Tucked away with a classic speakeasy vibe, La Cave offers a cozy, dark atmosphere perfect for date nights or a relaxed dinner out. My recent visit was elevated by the excellent service, especially from Nayeli, our server, who was friendly, attentive, and quick to keep drinks refreshed. The staff overall was impressively efficient--our plates were cleared almost immediately after we finished. We started with the shrimp cocktail, which came with four generously sized shrimp and a zesty, pretty good cocktail sauce that had a nice bite. For mains, the halibut was a standout--flaky, fresh, and perfectly cooked, served with a tangy tartar sauce on the side. While the rice pilaf that came with it was a bit bland, I'll definitely try the baked potato next time. The blackened rib eye was another hit--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor from the seasoning. A surprise highlight of the night was the complimentary dessert, a thoughtful touch that capped off the meal nicely. Bonus: we found out La Cave hosts a comedy night on the last Thursday of each month--definitely something I'd come back for. Overall, a great dining experience with strong service, solid food, and a moody ambiance. Looking forward to a return visit!

    Where's a menu with prices?

When will you be bringing back your prime rib?

Prime Rib is offered on Saturday nights! Look forward to seeing you soon!

Someone mentioned an 'early-bird special'. What time is the early-bird special on a Wednesday?

Not sure about the specific day...but it is 4:00 oclock

Is it 21 and up for events?

Yes, this is a nice dinner house and the after hours the bar/dance/band crowd is usually 30-50 years old.

Is the an age requirement for Saturday night? I want to bring my 19 YO to see the band playing that night?

No age requirement. But not really the place for young children IMO. Super loud so if you have annoying children most of the patrons shouldn't be able to hear them will all the noise.

They charge $25/bottle regardless of which day you dine so Friday/Saturday applies.

    Is there a corkage fee?

The pairing of the rich mole sauce and sweet potato puree takes the dish to an entirely different level, complementing each other effortlessly. Baklava Cheesecake: A creative and delicious twist on a classic. It took a minute to locate the restaurant and figure out parking, but once we arrived at the door, the experience was first-class from beginning to end. The hostess was charming and welcoming, the staff kept our waters filled and the table spotless, and our server, Juan, was outstanding. His knowledge of the menu, detailed descriptions, and personal recommendations made ordering easy and built our anticipation for every dish. We started by sharing the beet salad and Chicken Tinga Empanadas with the Gringo Killer Sauce. The beet salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, while the empanadas were packed with rich, savory flavor. The Gringo Killer Sauce added a bold kick that made them especially memorable. My wife ordered the wedge salad, my daughter chose the Grilled Octopus Al Pastor, and I had the 8 oz Picanha special. Every dish was exceptional. The octopus was a creative and flavorful take on al pastor, and the Picanha special was perfectly cooked, tender and was an absolute standout. Everything was so impressive that I sent my compliments to the chef and was fortunate enough to meet Chef Jackie personally. Then came dessert. Juan described a peach cobbler special that immediately had my mouth watering, while my daughter ordered the Espresso Crème Brûlée. Juan returned to our table with three plates and spoons and informed me that Chef Jackie has recommended her specialty. I did not argue, Chef knows best. She surprised me by sending out something different: a slice of Baklava Cheesecake accompanied by a scoop of house-made peach cobbler ice cream. Now, I have eaten some outstanding cheesecakes all around the world, but this Baklava Cheesecake was on an entirely different level. It was rich, layered, perfectly textured and flaky, and so unbelievably delicious that I nearly licked the plate clean. The house-made peach cobbler ice cream was equally impressive--light and creamy, yet captured the full peach cobbler flavor. The Espresso Crème Brûlée was also beautifully executed, with a crisp caramelized sugar shell and a deep, smooth coffee-flavored custard. My daughter ate half of hers before turning her attention to the cheesecake, and she does not even like cheesecake. That alone should tell you how special it was. I live three hours away, but I will absolutely be making the drive back. Lemon & Thyme delivers exceptional food, thoughtful hospitality, creative dishes, and the kind of personal service that turns a meal into a lasting memory. This is my new favorite restaurant!!! Do yourself a favor and make the trip to Lemon & Thyme. Ask for Juan, trust Chef Jackie, and do not leave without desert. Chef Jackie, Juan and the rest of the staff, thank you for the amazing experience!!!

Tater tots were crispy. Sourdough bread was soft but crunchy on the outside. Eggs were over easy. Berries & cream matcha: 8.5/10; I actually really enjoyed this Matcha. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.
