So I love their pizza. Plain pepperoni and cheese. I usually have it delivered but after a bad Uber eats experience we're trying to pick up our own food and so glad we did. As we pulled up and parked in the front I noticed the opportunity for a cute romantic date night lol. So I told my husband my plan and he agreed. We sat in front per our request and they were so nice to us. Lighting our candle bringing us our pizza and cappuccinos and it was way more fun than eating it at home in front of the tv. Our waiter was very attentive and everything was perfect. So what are you waiting for? Tell your partner to meet you at LaCava tonight!

I went to La Cava with a small group for a birthday dinner. We went on a Monday night so we were the only ones in the restaurant after awhile! The wait staff seems super friendly and they were attentive, but what struck me right away is the prices. Tagliatelle Bolognese $33!! Penne Regina $30!! And the worst was the Pizza Margherita for $24...absolutely outrageous for a tiny little pizza that's thiner than a piece of paper. Seems they don't list their prices on their website for a reason. You can get the same quality food at other Italian restaurants for a cheaper price. For the quality, it was one of the better bolognese dishes that I've had, but the birthday girl found a few small bones in hers. However, I didn't have any issues with my dish. They gave us little complementary pinwheel cookies for dessert and they were really dry and not sweet at all. Overall, the price is way too high for underwhelming food. There is metered street parking out front.

Got to check La Cava out for the first time on Valentine's Day. The setting is intimate with a darling outdoor patio. The host was very friendly and gave us our choice of table. The tables outside are a little on the small side, but the patio is very cozy as it's enclosed and has heaters. For Valentine's day they had a set menu where you could choose from one of two soups, two salads, and four mains served with a pre-selected dessert. I went with the broccoli soup, caesar salad and pappardelle. The broccoli soup sure didn't look like much but it was really good! Probably the most flavorful broccoli soup I've ever had. The caesar salad was pretty straightforward. Pappardelle had great truffle flavor and a delicious buttery sauce. Noodles were thick and fresh tasting. I wasn't crazy about the chocolate tart dessert. It wasn't chocolatey enough for me. Great wine and great service. I wish they had the regular menu available on Valentine's day so I could see what else they had/have more options. We were unaware they had a pre-set menu. I would come back again, and grab another delicious glass of Italian wine!

The food and the experience were excellent. Our server was incredibly friendly and gave us some great recommendations to start the night. We began with the house bread, which was soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and served with balsamic and olive oil. Simple and delicious. Next up was their homemade Caesar salad. Instead of traditional croutons they use toasted crumbs, and honestly it was a game changer. The texture worked perfectly with the dressing. For our mains we had the Dover sole piccata which was bright, buttery, and exactly what we were craving, along with the seafood linguine that was rich and flavorful. We wrapped things up with a cappuccino cheesecake and an Americano which was the perfect way to end the meal. Great service, great food, and a really enjoyable dinner overall. 10/10 recommend. The food does that on its own. This isn't "typical" Italian. The ingredients are high quality, the preparations are thoughtful, and you can taste the care in every dish. There's a real sense that the owner-chef is cooking food he believes in. We had the bolognese and the arrabbiata, plus an antipasto salad with everything finely julienned -- simple detail, big impact. Excellent across the board, right down to the bread. And the prices? They feel like they're from another decade. This meal easily outcompetes most Ventura Blvd spots without the pretense or inflated bill. And Justin the server is just super - we will be back. Give it a try. You'll be glad you did.
