As so many others likely have, we stumbled across LaCava while wandering through Barcelona Center. LaCava is a fun stop, but is definitely for those discretionary euros. $50 gets you 6 cupcakes and a bottle of rose'. The different frostings have good flavor. The cupcakes (at least ours) were a little dry. The cashier was polite and was helpful. It was a fun stop for our group to grab a drink and a sugary snack. I doubt they make their money off repeat business. read more

Stumbled on this overly cute, Instagrammable shop on the way to the metro. I literally stopped, jaw slightly dropped and rerouted. It's adorable--you can't possible just walk by. Aesthetics aside, this was the best red velvet cupcake I have ever had. I wish I'd had more time and space to come back and try the crema Catalana and other flavors but I went with my classic fave, red velvet and was wowed. It was perfectly fluffy and soft, and the cream cheese frosting on top amazing. Sort of drooling thinking about it right now. I did the Cava pairing at the suggestion of the cashier and having had cava twice now, I think it's safe to say cava isn't quite my thing--too sweet for me, but it didn't take away from the excellent cupcake. read more

We passed by this place on our way to a Sagrada Familia. I knew I had to visit. Thankfully, I had planned a day to go and visit sites we found while visiting Barcelona. This shop is adorable and a dream for anyone wanting to post cute pictures on Instagram. I ordered the sparkling rose and cookies and cream cupcake. Both were divine and strangely complimented each other. I would have tried another if I weren't so full from breakfast. It was a fun place to pop in, highly recommend it. read more

Impressive -- from start to finish this special little bakery, a few short blocks from La Sagrada Familia offers delectable fresh-made pastries as well as coffee, and wait for the best part... if you haven't connected the 'cava' part this bakery has champagne! They make their desserts in-house from scratch. For example, their espresso cupcakes have actual coffee baked into them. Not too sweet/heavy and makes for a perfect afternoon treat. Just a short walk from La Sagrada, this is a must visit for any Barcelona holiday. My mother and I happened upon this gem, a most happy accident, and were greeted with the most delicious wine and trays and the friendliest of faces. The shop owners are more than lovely, take the time to explain the menu and pairings. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING, and we were served the BEST CAVA on this side of heaven. She even lit the candles for my mother's bday celebration. We'll be ordering bottles to be shipped to the states once we get home. Our only negative is that we can't bring the shop with us. read more

The best cupcakes I've EVER had. While visiting Barcelona recently, we were walking down the street and stopped because of the beautiful storefront. Once we saw there were cupcakes inside, we had to try them! I got an iced caramel latte and red velvet cupcake. Both were amazing. So amazing that I had to have another cupcake. Its was a cold morning in December after our visit to Basílica, need a cup of coffee and some sugar rush so we decided to stop by this little shop. It was just a cute little shop and the owners are super sweet. They have delicious Irish coffee. We ordered an Irish coffee (with Irish Whiskey) and caramel coffee. Cupcakes are super moist. Delicious cupcakes - the best that I've had in Barcelona. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner who explained that the cupcakes are baked in house daily and you can certainly tell. We tried the cookies and cream cupcakes which are spongy and moist, with a deliciously sweet icing that complements perfectly. Additionally, the idea of pairing Catalan cava with cupcakes is ingenious. The dry and crisp cava works with any cupcake. I wandered into Cava Cakery rather randomly & therefore didn't know what to expect. The owners are the absolute sweetest couple & took the time to chat with me & welcome me to Barcelona. Their shop is decorated in the cutest fashion & the food is even better. I tried the Oreo, Red Velvet and the Raspberry Chocolate cupcakes, along with a flat white coffee. The coffee was delicious & the cupcakes were perfectly moist, flavorful & delicious. If I could bathe in their icing I would. I have 20 hours left in Barcelona & you can bet I'm going back at least twice more. read more
