OMG! Funky Bakers was in our "to do" list while in Barcelona this week and it did not disappoint!! We headed out to Hofmann's this morning for breakfast, on our way to Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, to find that they were closed (no idea why even though everything said they should be open - including the sign on the door), so we walked the few extra steps to try Funky Bakers a day earlier than expected. What a gem! It is a small walk up bakery, and there was a line out the door, but it went quickly. EVERYTHING looked (and smelled) amazing and the service was great! I ordered an Americano coffee and my boyfriend ordered an iced coffee. We tried the ham and cheese Croissant and it was AMAZING! I had to fight off the bee that chased me trying to get a taste of the cinammon and sugar that stuck to my fingers. They offered pastries, quiches, sandwiches, coffee, etc. If you're looking for a fantastic grab and go breakfast , this is the place to find. Highly recommend.

Bakery in the Born neighborhood close to several tourist attractions such as the Picasso Museum and Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. The service was a bit slower when I went as there seemed to only be one person working and the group ahead of me had ordered coffee. I got the lemon tart, which several customers have recommended on Yelp/Google. The lemon flavor really came through and I enjoyed the crumbly texture of the crust. However, I think there was too much meringue on the top, to the point that it became a bit dominating and I scraped a good amount of it off before finishing the rest of the pastry.

Great savory pastry! My brother lives in Barcelona and recommended this place to me for a quick snack. He said to get the sausage roll, but unfortunately they were sold out of that. I decided to get the pumpkin borek and was pleasantly surprised! The boreks i tried when i was younger were not nearly as airy as this. This was more like a savory croissant. I even considered going back for seconds:) for a drink, i got a hot chai. This comes from a concentrate and is made locally (i think). Good, but not the star of the show. I liked that it tasted less sweet than most chai found in the US. Staff was quick and kind. Will be returning!

Solid array of bakery options. Iced matcha is delicious and I got the turkey sandwich. Great for on the go and fairly quick service! Corn beef breakfast sandwich is also a must.

Had this place on my list before even stepping foot in Spain and it did not disappoint! the pastries were to die for and the coffee was superb. It's in a great little area and certainly hits the spot the morning after drinking too much sangria.

This stop was so good. It was in a great spot in a square. The service was great and the food was amazing. We got a babka, an alfajores, and a chocolate chip cookie. Hands down, the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. I

Now I say "enviously" because, while I long for the Spanish-style bakes of dreamy soft bread, what I get instead, living in New York City, are the pastries following the French style. That is, lots of croissant and croissant iterations and flaky desserts with not a touch of that gentle soft dough common to Spain. But I digress. Mistral Forn offers many of those said soft breads, most prominently this treat called ensaimada. It is made of this delicate thin dough, coiled into a spiral and, once baked, dusted with powdered sugar. They also come with fillings, including pumpkin jam (delish) or custard. Here, I tried the ensaimada with the latter filling, and it was everything I wish New York City bakes would be. Soft dough, sweet but not too sweet. Comforting. Cozy. None of that crusty bread scratching the roof of your mouth. I do wish New York City would open a Spanish bakery. I don't know if that will happen any time soon, but a girl could dream.

The ensaimada was wonderful. The pumpkin inside was light and not too sweet. The outer pastry was so soft with a generous amount of powdered sugar. I couldn't stop eating this.

We tried one of their chocolate desserts, a chocolate chip cookie and a matcha drink. All of them were great.. so great that I ended up buying a pistachio brookie to go. To this day we regret not buying more stuff to bring back home. The service was great and quick. The place was clean and cute to dine in with a few tables! Overall I'd definitely stop by if I'm in Barcelona again!

Chok is for chocolate…read morebut they didn't sell any actual chocolates... but there was a rotation of special flavored cinnamon rolls, rookies, brownies, mini cakes, cookies, and cheesecakes. There were a few loaves of bread but mostly there were those sweets and it seems they have those all the time. We got a regular cinnamon roll because the flavored ones didn't have as much of the frosting on it which is the best part, and a pistachio cream rookie... no im not sure what a rookie is but it looked like a Levain cookie (the famous one from NY) as it was a mountain of a dessert. We had both treats heated up... although they weren't actually hot lol. The cinnamon roll was on par with others I've had, maybe even slightly drier but the frosting was amazing and I still enjoyed it a lot. The rookie was quite decadent and the inside was an almost cake texture? Still quite tasty but I think both would've knocked it out of the park if they were actually hot and ooey gooey. Five stars because it wasn't bad but I can't say I'm super impressed. I will be going to other gf bakeries over this one
