    Chivito €10.80 Potatoes €2
    Marc M.

These days my 5 star food picks are ones that I continue to think about long after I'm done with my meal. This is one of those places. Came because I saw the excellent ratings and wanted a burger. Ordered the Chivito thinking it was a burger. Turns out it's a steak sandwich with some cold cuts, veggies, and an amazing toasted buttery brioche bun. Initially I didn't fully process it as I was expecting the taste of a burger. I then just enjoyed it for what it was, a very unusual steak sandwich. Once I readjusted my expectations, I loved it. A fantastic fresh homemade taste, and the staff is cool. Menus are available in English and are just a clipboard with a few spartan pages of food. I finished my Chivito, and while I enjoyed it, I didn't think to hard about it. Now a few hours later I'm wishing I had another. And that is my definition of a 5 star. The potatoes are lightly salted and just the right amount browned. Get those on the side. Keep in kind they only have a few seats.

    The famous Chivito (9.80 €)

Foc i Oli is a super tiny place. There are ten seats. Ten. You will sit at a counter. There is no privacy. That's normally the kind of place I'd hate, but Foc i Oli makes some incredible burgers. I had the Chivito (thin slices of beef steak, ham, bacon, mayo, salad dressing, gouda, red pepper and caramelized onion on brioche bread.) For 9.80 €, it was a taste sensation. I loved it. Although not technically a burger, it basically tasted like one. We arrived near closing time, but the guys here were super-accommodating. Most locals seemed to grab their burgers to go. They do serve beer (I believe they have just one tap) and have some spirits on the wall, so I guess they can whip up a few mixed drinks. Whether you get a burger to go or squeeze your way into a seat, Foc i Oli is an awesome addition to your Barcelona checklist.

Chicken sandwich with potatoes. Get the potatoes. Trust me.

This tiny little sandwich shop doesn't look like much but it's worth a trip. I know burgers are their thing but I'd just had a burger the day before so I decided to switch things up and get a chicken sandwich. While I regret not getting a burger after reading all the other reviews, I don't think I missed out on much. My sandwich was so yummy - the sauce had great flavor and the bread was perfectly toasty and crunchy. Those potatoes are heaven too. Very reasonably priced. Servers were friendly. Would be a regular if I didn't live 5,000 miles away :-)

Best European burgers I ever had. I got the Special which came with fried egg on top. Outstanding. My friend had the burger with blue cheese and loved it. Goal is to get there one more time before we leave wonderful Barcelona. Only seats 10 people! Owners very friendly.

A hidden gem in Barcelona. Don't be fooled by the images and think "Why would I come all the way to Barcelona just to have a burger?" The flavors from these sandwiches are far from your typical fast-food sandwich and easily slide into a gourmet tier of their own. This is particularly true for the house special, the Chivito. The three kinds of meat thinly sliced and combined with a unique combination of flavorful and fresh ingredients will have your eyes wide open in disbelief of how delicious it is. Their "patatas" which are a bit similar to homestyle fries are a perfect complement to the sandwich; a golden crisp on the outside and soft on the inside as well as not overly salted. They also have a nice variety of beers and some hard liquor if it suits fancy. All the sandwiches are also just the right size, satisfying yet won't make you feel heavy and weighed down so you'll be good to walk about after your meal. I need to offer some advice for when you DEFINITELY pay this place a visit. The restaurant is small, as in quite literally there are only 10 seats in the whole place, bar style so there are no reservations. There are 5 seats along the wall, 2 seats facing the street and 3 seats at the bar (you can see it posted on pictures). Because of this, it's recommended that you come outside of the hours you might find people looking to eat. I stopped by with two others around 3:30 P.m. in which we were glad to find that it wasn't too busy and we all sat at the bar. We had a chat with the owner who was extremely friendly (and a big soccer fan from Uruguay) and he stated that the busy times can sometimes vary depending on the season and that because it was mid-day in July, a lot of people were out enjoying the beach so it's easier to find seating. The busiest time, as you might guess, are lunch time around 12:00 P.m. and dinner time around 8:00 P.m. or so. They do not follow the trend common among Spain restaurants and cafes that close between 4PM and 8PM for migdiada/siesta. Give it a try! TL;DR for travelers - Sandwiches range from €10-€12 with fries being an extra €2.50 or so - Open during the migdiada/siesta hours of 4P.m. to 8P.m. where many places might be closed - Only 10 seats in the whole restaurant, bar style so you may be rubbing elbows with other folks (socializing chance!) - Absolutely try the Chivito!

I'm writing this review mainly because there are no current reviews. Foc i Oli was a late choice based on food they served, ratings, distance from our hotel and price. We only had a short time for dinner. Glad to say we were pleasantly surprised. Dishes ordered: El Chivito (thin slices of steak, ham, bacon, mayonnaise, salad dressing (actually pile and vinegar and salt and paper), Gouda cheese, red pepper, fresh tomatoes, caramelized onions, on brioche bun), La Hambuguesa, El Chihuahua, El Polastre. Each with potatoes. Everything was beyond our expectations. Atmosphere nice, tiny place, seating only at counters on stools. Service was excellent and enjoyable. Food was truly amazing. I would definitely recommend this tiny restaurant. Come and enjoy.

This was a pretty good burger spot. The service was great and the burgers were delicious. They are very fresh and the buns are toasted just right. The patatas or fries were also tasty. Definitely recommend. There's only seats for about 10 people so be prepared to be seated in a tight space if it's full.

    El Chavito with fried potatoes

Small little burger joint, but don't let that fool you. Their food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the El Chivito, which is a steak sandwich, and their fried potatoes. When our food was ready, the chef himself brought the burgers out to us. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted so good. Eating a burger with fries on a hot, summer day just seemed right for someone like me, who's from the States. Along with the top notch food, the staff here is super friendly and welcoming. Even though we were tourists, we sure didn't feel like it. If I ever come back to Barcelona, I'm definitely coming back for another meal!

    Our lineup!

Little hole in the wall. We had a party of 7 and after a few beers decided to saunter down to this place after reading the reviews. They are closed from 5-7 and only have 10 stools so got here at 6:45. Had a cerveza next door and then the door opened up. OMG. The smell when the flat top fired up was unreal. These guys are artists! The Chivito was as advertised. Unbelievable! Pour group also had the pesto chicken and the burger with bleu cheese (rave reviews). Papas and beer and great service. Trust me. Go!! Updated - went back a 2nd time in October 2019. Friends LOVED their burgers. I went with the Chivito again. Nice beer selection including a few craft IPAs. Owner said they are keeping this location but opening another one that's much bigger. That's what happens when you so things right. He earned it - congrats!

Beef burger with lettuce, mayo, tomato and wine reduction onions. Side of yummy palates and small Estrella. nomnomnom

This little place is amazing and has lots of character. Met the owner/chef who is so friendly and patient. Menus are in Catalan so he sat and translated all to English for us. Most of what we saw were burgers and sandwiches. I tried the beef burger and my husband had the foie gras one. Both served with a side of patates - simply delicious! He took care to make an onion 'confit' with wine reduction, meat was cooked exactly as we ordered it (medium). Really enjoyed our meal - even more so with a small Estrella on the side. Though burgers aren't the first thing that comes to mind when you think Spanish food, this isn't a bad idea at all. The patates and Estrella helped give it a local flavour, and the burger themselves have been tweaked (sauces/bread used). Definitely recommend this to someone who is over eating tapas! Prices are great and the owner is super nice! Would be back if I returned to Barcelona :) thank you for a wonderful meal.

Wonderful, unique flavors. The word "sandwich" does not do it justice. Whether you get a burger or a chicken sandwich, you won't be disappointed, and you will leave happy and full. Keep in mind that there is very limited seating, so if you go at a busy time you'll have to get your order to go.

We ordered the Chavito & Chicken & spicy sandwich forget the name but regardless, BOTH were amazing. The potatoes on the side...WILD. I'm from LA so we have a diff take on burgers. You definitely can't compare to In & Out, it's a totally different vibe. Barcelonas best hole in the wall joint period

    El Chivito and potato wedges.

This is definitely a great spot for anyone into American beer hall vibes while in Barcelona - plenty of seating and TV's throughout to watch games or other things. You order up at the counter, and we just got a pitcher of beer when we went later at night, as the food service had ended. I do kind of wish we could've had the chance to still get some food, as other tables that had some from earlier looked really tasty. Nevertheless, the vibes were great and the beers hit the spot here. What more can I say?! It was bright, airy, and comfortable inside - perfect for hanging out! I think this is a great option - especially for American tourists, but also for just anyone that wants to have a spot that's chill and fun to hang out at. I definitely recommend!

This is definitely a small, local, casual bar to grab a bocadillo and a drink or two. Service was friendly and fast, they checked in on us but mostly let us do our own thing. Everyone also spoke English, which made things easier for us. Foodwise, we got 2 different bocadillos to try along with the patatas bravas. I loved the iberico bocadillo and the other one as well (I forgot the name but it had country sausage, peppers, and onions). The bread was crisp but soft and did not hurt the roof of my mouth. The filling was flavorful and balanced. The patatas bravas were not the usual ones we were used to, they were herbed and not fried but were so good. We had hoped to return for a second meal here or for takeaway for our flight but unfortunately, timing did not work out. I definitely recommend this spot and think its an excellent, cheap spot for an amazing meal.

One of the first things you should get straight at Bar Fidel is that this is *not* a Spanish…read morebusiness; it's a Catalan one. The owner will hit you over the head with this fact. I know it's a big deal and I know people have bad days but this gentleman was in a mood if ever one was. On one hand, I was happy with the non-touristy, local experience I was getting. On the other one, I found myself longing for a touch of tourist consideration. Even though Catalan is the word of the day at Bar Fidel, you won't get (too many) bad looks by speaking in Spanish. Try to avoid speaking in English. Also, avoid ordering sangria. Not only is it not an option, it makes the owner not want to suffer fools and to complain about people coming to his city and wanting such 'pedestrian' libations. Get your wine and keep it moving. You're at a local's pub, so keep it simple: salad, sandwich, wine, and/or beer. These are your choices... and I had all four. Were I to come back, I would settle on a liquid diet. My crab salad had much too much mayonnaise (you know how I feel about mayonnaise) for my tastes and my salmon baguette - while an interesting mix of fish, dill and roquefort cheese - was, ultimately, too pedestrian for a dinner item (although as a lunch item and paired with a beer, it would have been a good fit). The onus was on me to do more research. I didn't. I thought I did but I didn't. My ill preparation, however, was compounded by the awkward atmosphere I felt from the owner. I always advocate going off the beaten path and trying to get a more local feel of a city. If I were to come back here, though, I would make sure I did it with a local... who spoke fluent Catalan.
