As I entered La Cosona it was very obvious they were busy inside as well as with carryout business. 8 large carryout orders was waiting by the hostess desk. The restaurant is quite large and great for large groups. The mariachi band was very loud, but good, as they moved thoroughout. Definitely not a quite, romantic restaurant. Then again, maybe it was just the day I'd had but they were entertaining. Complimentary, warm salsa and chips arrived as soon as I was seated. A few minutes later a small complimentary Chile con queso was dropped off. The complimentary queso dip is cheese only but still a nice touch. The queso dip you purchase is cheese, spices, bell peppers and onions. I added some of the salsa to the queso which added more flavor and a touch of cilantro. I ordered the Pescado Scampi ($11.50) which is a grilled fish fillet covered with scampi sauce made with bell peppers, tomatoes, onions fresh garlic & lemon juice. The fish filet was served with rice, steamed crisp-tender veggies of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and a side salad. Only two salad dressing options of Ranch or Italian. I started to feel it was taking awhile for my dinner to arrive. That was until I saw the large crowd plus let's not forget the amount of carry-out orders being phoned in. I should also mention the servers were on their A game. They checked on me frequently without being atrusive. When my dinner arrived the presentation was very attractive. The steamed veggies were crisp-tender, the salad was very fresh with tomatoes, cucumber and white onions. The grilled fish was flaky and tender topped with scampi sauce with tiny diced bell peppers, onions and fresh garlic. The garlic and lemon butter was mild and not overpowering. The rice was light and fluffy plus went well with the garlic and lemon butter flavors. I had planned on dining at a restaurant close by but was out of business when I pulled in. A good place to meet up with family and overeat on guilty Mexican food. Portion are huge so it's best to split a plate. They are very accommodating of big parties and I feel like every time I go there are at least two birthdays happening. Staff are nice and friendly and the prices are relatively cheap. the old location was a staple and always packed. The new location is much more open and spacious. You're almost guaranteed to see someone you know. Food overall is good Mexican. Chips and salsa are great. Overall it's a great local place that everyone knows about and goes to. read more

We've been dining at La Casona for over 15 years From 3 different locations (Rosenberg & Richmond) It's our weekly go to! Love the chicken soup, quesadillas, cheese enchiladas ..street tacos, shredded chicken tacos.. yes we love it all. I kinda judge a Mexican restaurant by their salsa & queso. They serve homemade red & green salsa & Queso complimentary with your meals. The top shelf margarita is tasty.! They also serve their beer in frozen mugs which is a major plus for me. The new location at 59 & hwy 36 is huge, so no wait. Still family owned and operated...lots of great folks there...they make us feel like family. The last meal we just had was a Paradilla Mixta with Chicken, beef, pork, & sausage with queso flameado (white cheese in a poblano pepper) Yum ! We used to frequent this place before they moved to their current location. Located in the same center as the drivers license office, this place is huge! Lots of dining area. It kind of reminded me of Ninfa's! They have pretty good lunch specials but I opted for the green chicken enchiladas. Enchiladas Verdes which was pretty good! The service was prompt and the food was pretty good! I like the fact that you get free queso with your chips which was nice! Located right off he freeway near 36. My coworkers like coming to this place . I've never actually ate inside we always just ordered to go and we all just get the chicken soup. The soup is good they give you a massive amount t you can legit eat on it for like 2-3 days or split it with someone. They always have my order ready on time. 10:55am. I came here because I was having my tires worked on at a nearby place. Isidro was my waiter. He came quickly and was quick to bring my drink, chips and queso. I watched 5 waiters in the back just stand around with their arms crossed talking and then looking at their phones. To their credit, the restaurant opens at 10:45 and there was only 3 other tables dining besides me. My food came out at 11:10- awesome! Nice work, kitchen! I ordered the seafood enchiladas, refried beans and rice. The plate was hot. The frozen margarita was standard, nothing special. I was sad that there wasn't any sauce on the enchiladas, just queso fresco. Bland. I salted my whole plate and it made the meal much better. All of the tables were clean, floor was clean, decor was very nice. The mariachi music would have been too loud if I were trying to talk to someone but since I was alone, no big deal. Starting about 11:20 people started coming in and the staff kicked into gear. Well, some of them. Maybe I should have faced outside. I'm just not used to seeing staff stand around on phones and stuff in full view of all customers. It was a good solid meal. I wouldn't send anything back, and it was piping hot- which goes a LONG way in my book. The portion size was good. There wasn't an empty spot on the plate. You definitely get your money's worth. The food was just bland in flavor. Would I come back? Sure! I'd love to try something else. I am sure they make food with a kick to it. My dish just wasn't it. This place certainly has the capability to do great things! It's big, the kitchen is FAST and it is CLEAN! I watched a hostess carry out bag after bag for to-go orders. Food is great! They are very nice and the prices are very reasonable. The only down side is that the food is greasy, but honestly you can expect that in almost every Tex-Mex restaurant. Used to go to the old location off 36 before they moved to the one off 59. It's pretty much the same as the old place but with more space. The menu is not the easiest to read for a gringo but the food is pretty decent. Their margaritas and very good (strong) yet there is no beer on draft (bummer). The wait staff is extremely attentive, almost to the point of being annoying. We were trying to have a cocktail before ordering and at least 3 people came to our table 2 times asking if we were ready to order. As far as being a Mexican restaurant this place is pretty run of the mill. It's definitely not anything out of the ordinary but the food is good. read more

I Just left the restaurant with a literal negative taste in my mouth. Food took almost 30mins to come and was still under cooked.. I asked three different wait staff if I could speak to the Manager. After 15mins of waiting I finally decided to go find him myself. I must admit that Omar the Manager was one of the rudest people I have ever met. He claimed no one told him that I asked for him. On a side note Omar was very friendly the people he knew while essentially ignoring me. I told him my issues and he didn't seem very concerned so I told him he lost a customer and again he didn't seem concerned. The food was horrible the steak was very dry and didn't have any seasoning on it. The seafood enchiladas didn't have any meat seems like just cheese. Bad experience. The one star is for the server, who was ok. We went on a Wednesday night. They don't have hours of operation on their door, but we learned that they close at 9. We walked in (at 8:20pm, but we didn't know what time they closed), and the girl behind the counter didn't bother looking up. Servers nearby saw us and no one moved. Finally another girl greeted us and sat us, that other girl still didn't bother. Bad start and went downhill from there. The salsa was bland, so watered down. I ordered chimichanga, bland and bad quality. Hubs had the tampiquena (sp?), which was beef fajita and cheese enchilada. No flavor and the pico de gallo that came with it needed salt and simply...flavor. The few smiles from the server at least made the experience ok. Best Mexican food in Rosenberg. We have been dining here for almost 15 years. Love this place. They have been around for almost 20 years. They had to change locations because they needed a bigger restaurant to accommodate everyone who goes here. My husband's grandmother is very picky. Of course her homemade Mexican food is the best and she compares everything to her own. She didn't complain about this place. La Casona gets the grandma stamp of approval. read more

It really hurts to give this only 2 stars because the food was really, really good. Everything was well made, and the flavors were fantastic. The down side is that everything else was bad. From the obnoxiously loud mariachi band that didn't take a break, and made it impossible to hold a conversation with anyone at my table, much less talk to or hear the waiter. To the service that took so long I almost walked out. Our waiter came to our table to take our order, about 15 minutes after our queso came out. We were beyond ready. We had our first dine in experience since early March at La Casona today. They are working hard to service customers in a clean and COViD safe environment. First time here since I was waiting in line at the DPS. Decided to try this place out. Read the reviews before hand saw good reviews so I was like ok lets check it out. Walked in no one greeted us, the server was like 2 and a booth? I was like yes thats fine. So he sat his down and he was looking for his notepad and pen for a good 2 minutes asking other servers for one. I believe you should be prepared (keep in mind it was slow) He asked us for our drinks and once he got that down we looked at the lunch menu and already knew what we wanted. When he came back and did not ask us if we were ready he walked away. After I saw the same server playing around with other employers with a ball of napkin? Not professional at all. After someone else came and took our order. He had a little joy in him so after that service wasn't horrible. Food wise - not so tasty. I was disappointed. Came here last night for a birthday dinner, which was a big party, and service was pretty quick to start. But, a friend of mine found 2 hairs in her queso. They service died down, we were having to go look for the guy & flag him down. Then we get our meals & that same friend had a hair in her meal plate!!! That's a problem!! Then another friend at the table said she has a hair in her meal plate.... so that's 4 pieces of hair found in 2 people's food in 1 evening. No one came to speak w the table after she told the waiter. Didn't comp either of their bills. Got our checks, paid & left. La Cosona is a pretty good Mexican food restaurant. We had no complaints. We went on a Saturday evening and it was pretty busy and a little loud, but nothing unacceptable. The restaurant is pretty large and decorated like a traditional Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa are just fine and they bring a complimentary cup of queso, which is a plus. We tried the nachos and enchiladas and both were pretty good. The margaritas were good as well. We particularly enjoyed the regular and strawberry margarita, but weren't so fond of the mango margarita. The service was good, the food was good, and the drinks were good. There was nothing bad about this restaurant and nothing particularly exceptional. I would recommend La Cosana to someone looking for some good Mexican food at a casual and relaxed place. We will have no problem coming back again when we are in the area looking for the same. read more

Ate here for the 1st time today. Ordered Chicken Enchilada, but got beef. Was at office when I realized. Went back, got chicken made it back to office and they left the cheese out this time. Ugggh! Called, explained what happened, put on hold and the person that tried to help English was just a shade better than my Spanish which is bad. Hung up frustrated. Let me start with I an a regular here (server knew what we wanted to drink when we sat down). This last visit was a bust. Servers are great but manager on duty was a coward. Ordered a steak, enchilada and potato plate. How would you like your steak cooked? Medium. Food arrives steak is cooked to death (too tough to chew). Being hungry I ate enchilada and potato. Server came back about 10 min after bringing plates and asked if everything was ok and I showed her the steak and she commented that "This is over done" . I can have them redo it for you. I declined as my wife had finished eating and did not want to wait and eat while my wife just sat there. She took my plate and came back a few mins. later "I showed my manager he will be here to see you in a few. She returned and said a manager would be at the table soon. 15 min. later no one had arrived at table. I gave her my card and paid for meal. I love this place so much. My boyfriend's family often caters family parties from here (fantastic fajitas and all the trimmings) and they took me to the actual restaurant last weekend. They bring as much amazing salsa and queso as you want and someone is always coming around with fresh chips. The enchiladas, chiles rellenos, aforementioned fajitas, and carnitas are all delicious and I am sure anything on the menu is as well.
