While the food is good it's just par. Italian cuisine snob I admit it. Much to be desired as far as treatment of young staff. Not one but two young people close to my family were taken advantage of and that is sad. The world very well may be dog eat dog but I don't patronize any business that takes advantage of young people who are hard workers and respectful teens. There is a shortage of those in the world. There were 5 in our party and they seated us without a reservation. We were placed in the new back room and our service was impeccable. Bread w/ olive oil and balsamic vinegar(small up charge). Artichoke & Mushroom Dip for the table. Salads all around(included w/meals) - 2 house with choice of dressing and 3 Caesar - cold, crisp and nicely dressed. 2 Veal Marsala with angel hair pesto, 1 Veal Parmigiana with spaghetti marinara, 1 Eggplant Parmigiana with spaghetti marinara - (pasta included). and 1Casereccio Boscaiola (Sausage, bacon, mushrooms, pink sauce & francese). Veal was sooo tender and delicious! All the meals were delicious - above and beyond on everything! For dessert the table shared an order of Cannolis - 4 to an order - 2 chocolate and 2 vanilla -- delicious!! I highly recommend La Casetta!!! It is simply OUTSTANDING!!!!!  Top-notch customer service, with an extremely clean and warm family like atmosphere.  The bar tender, DJ is AMAZING!  She is friendly, fast and creative and can whip up the best drinks.  She treats you like you are the only customer and makes you feel right at home from the moment you pull up a bar stool.  Additionally, service and drinks were so good my wife and I got a table and I can't say enough about our waitress, Bella.  She was AWESOME and I would recommend requesting her.  She  greeted us with a warm smile, she rattled off all the drink and meal specials and thoroughly knew the menu. Despite a packed restaurant, she checked on us continuously and ensured our meals were perfect. Last, the owners, Piero and Paula, were just as friendly and one can easily see the pride they have in this family restaurant and the genuine care they have for thier customers. This place is a GEM in New Bern and guaranteed you will have a great night out.  All freshly homemade pasta was perfectly cooked, and the pizza was perfect. Food was great and the our waiter was awesome too. Surprisingly the only issue we had today was (I believe) the manager came up to our table and asked if we would be able to eat by 5 pm because there was another reservation booked. Mind you we made a reservation ourselves. You don't do that. He was rushing us out the door. Was visiting my daughter who lives here and we decided to go here for the first time. Service was good, the place is fairly clean, but the food is horrendous. People must not have taste buds here in New Bern or they really like canned sauce. The sauce looks like it came out of a Chef Boyardee can and tasted like it too. No tomatoes, no onions, no garlic as it was just puréed orange colored sauce. The chicken Parmesan was so tough and stringy it was not edible. Good luck at this place. read more

We are from Jacksonville where we don't have authentic Italian restaurants. This is our second time coming to this restaurant and both times the food has been incredible. They remodeled the restaurant and it looks much nicer now, we ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer which was so good, and I got the pasta a La Casetta , amazing. I can understand the reviews about the poor service, we were seated almost right away and the food came very quickly but our server, who was a very nice young woman, forgot our silverware. The waters came out after the food as well, it wasn't busy, there were maybe 4 tables in the whole restaurant that were filled. For desert I got the cannoli and a cappuccino, which I wanted to have come out together, but I had to remind them of my cappuccino that didn't come out until 10 min after the cannoli. It just seems like the waitresses are all stressed out and running around everywhere even when it isn't busy. The food makes up for it though! Minus one star for service. read more

Such a cute hole-in-wall restaurant and a gem in this city. It was my first time here with my significant other and we truly loved the experience. Everything was so delicious! I'm extremely picky about Italian food due to my mom being raised by Italians, but this place was amazing and did not disappoint. The limoncello cake was a great way to end the dinner date. Yes! The incredible bread and pizza is a must. I wonder how that bread is made? It's definitely the best Italian bread I've ever had. I have not had one bad meal the multiple times I have been here. Fantastic food, great service, and very nice price.

A party of 4 of us went for dinner. My 3 companions enjoyed their food but my salmon salad was pretty bad, the fish was visibly overcooked. But I'm not that picky, I ate it anyway, mistakes happen. The bread they brought to the table was nice but obviously insufficient in quantity. The service was good but what I found worryingly unacceptable in these difficult times is the lack of space between tables - they really pack 'em in. If I got infected with covid (or anything else for that matter) in the past month, this place is by far the most likely location for it. I would NOT return at a busy time. read more

Honestly blown away. We came in with no expectations other than just trying something new in town. We were seated quickly and welcomed warmly by our server, Michael. He brought out fresh bread with olive oil and vinegar; it was so soft and the olive oil/vinegar had garlic in it which really amplified the flavor. We ordered the Gnocchi Bolognese, the Calzone, and the kids chicken tenders with fries. The food came out very promptly. The wine menu, and the beer menu were full of great options. We enjoyed the Chardonnay, the Red Oak, and another beer. We ended our meal with the Pistachio Cheesecake and that was just the perfect ending. Everything tasted so fresh. What a disappointment. Maybe they've changed hands. The sauce was oddly pale and sweet. The veal I ordered was so tough it's uncertain its veal. Sting was ordering coffee. The cups were short in volume and in requesting more it was a duplicate charge of $4.50. So $18 for coffee alone. I love authentic Italian. This simply wasn't it. I've never done a review before but I was inspired today. If I bought Stouffers it would have been at least that good. Mangia elsewhere. read more

Do yourself a favor and spend your money at one of the actual delicious restaurants in New Bern with professional staff well versed in customer service. We placed a takeout order online. Said no more than 30 minutes but when we arrived to pick it up more than 30 minutes later, the order had not even been started. Owner was not accommodating, told us he couldn't even refund the order because the online system gets the money. Owner was rude and blamed us for not realizing his restaurant was busy. Made us feel like it was our fault. He and his staff could benefit from customer service training. He has most definitely never heard of the phrase, "The customer is always right." We had the food once before, it's mediocre at best for Italian food in the south. Will not return to a restaurant where the owner doesn't value his customers. Do not use online ordering system or pay ahead, system doesn't have contact information to get refunded so now we must dispute the charges with credit card company. read more

We have dined at La Casetta often and think it's the best choice for Italian food in New Bern. We were disappointed this time as one of my favorite dishes is no longer on the menu and my husband's eggplant Parmesan was just barely warm , the pasta was a little hotter. We also had 2 different waitresses, they changed mid-meal and it wasn't a shift change time. We'll give it another try and hope the food and service return to the original level. read more

Nice ambiance to the restaurant indoors and outdoors. Dishes are aesthetically pleasing also. This review is going off of my 2 experiences at the restaurant. Friendly staff but both times they appeared to be newer and not as knowledgeable- which is okay. The dishes were rather bland, not bad but not worth the price tag. A little bit of garlic or even pepper could've went a long way with both dishes. Decent sized portions both times though. Our second visit had a ton of extra charges. Not sure why we had to pay for cheese for the Stromboli and especially $4? In the description it says everything is included for the $8 but we were charged an additional $6. Not sure what that's about. And charging for lettuce and onions for a cheesesteak?! What in the world. read more

Gave this spot another try, as it was our friends birthday- and this was their restaurant of choice. I had called ahead for a "special" table for the occasion, yet we had a "regular" table in the porch room right near the door. Very busy and not special at all. Food was just average. Seems ALL chicken dishes are made with chicken THIGHS!!!! Just not right for certain traditional dishes like Chicken Marsala! After ordering, our food was delivered 30 minutes later. We had almost run out of conversation at that point! REALLY? 30 minutes????? We ate all the bread they delivered....and hoped for more...but, waiter never asked. We never saw him much. Food was "cool" upon arrival and spaghetti dinner was nothing special. I will stay home to eat my own from now on! read more

My wife and I just finished dinner at La Casetta and it was pretty surprising. I expected a North Carolina version of Italian food but I received the best Italian food we have had since leaving New York City. The appetizer, mozzarella sticks were excellent and the dipping sauce was hot and tasted very good. The main course, wife had spaghetti ri cursa was with fresh spaghetti and was delicious. I had the Veal Parmigiana with homemade linguine and it was very good. I thought there was too much sauce but overall the food was delicious! Lastly, the server was very good as well. Matteo was on top of his game and made sure all was good throughout the meal. I look forward to my next visit to La casetta!! read more

The salmon was delicious and the serving was larger than I expected for the price. Our server checked with us often to see if we were happy with our entrees. They salmon was slightly undercooked and had absolutely no flavor somehow the salmon flavor was also lost it was watery and flavorless the garlic bread tasted like it had no garlic on it ( Wich I think it didn't) and the marinara sauce tasted like tomato soup. La Casetta was a big disappointment. I always choose to support family-owned & local before chain establishments, but I cannot recommend this restaurant. I would have rather eaten at an Olive Garden (which I avoid if I can!) The atmosphere does not equal the price you pay. The restaurant's pricing is that of an elegant, fancy experience--what you'd expect to pay for a special occasion. This is a refurbed Pizza Hut--decorated with fake flowers and brown vinyl tablecloths with paper napkins. The service was awful. Again, with the price you pay here, you would expect decent service in the least. Our waitress was not friendly. When we asked her questions, she said she didn't know, but didn't offer to find out. She pretty much acted like we were a pain in the bum for coming in that evening. We ordered the Caprese appetizer and it was delivered without basil. Several minutes later when she returned we asked her if it should have come with basil and without saying anything removed it from our table in a huff. It returned correctly a few moments later with no apology. The salads were okay--typical side salad--but they do not come automatically with most pasta entrees--they're an additional charge. Garlic bread is provided free of charge with all meals, but we had to ask for it and it wasn't anything special. I ordered Eggplant Parmesan which was served atop spaghetti. It was a large serving, but again nothing special. My dad got the Meat Lasagna and said that the top few layers didn't have meat in them--he'd had better frozen lasagna than this. My mom got Veal Picatta. She enjoyed it, but did not think it was worth the $16.95 price tag. The three of us each had one wine/beer, shared an appetizer and our own entree with salad. The bill was $80!?!? Not worth it at all for subpar service and "just okay" Italian food. We did overhear a woman who appeared to be the manager say that the chef was on vacay in Italy. Maybe that's why we had such an awful experience. I'm really sad that I can't give a better review, but my La Casetta visit left a sour taste in my mouth.
