It was served with a citrus (mango forward) salsa on top of jasmine coconut rice. It is all a great idea and the combo was good. Only feedback was the red bell peppers seemed out of place and took away from the dish and the jasmine rice was a little too bland. I could taste the hint of coconut which was good but some seasoning or a touch of salt on the rice would have paired great with the salmon and orange glaze. Since moving to the southeast coastal area of NC over 2 years ago, my husband and I have been searching for an authentic Italian restaurant we could enjoy on a regular basis. Let me put my comments in perspective: I am of Italian descent; we lived most of our lives in the NY/NJ metropolitan area where good restaurants are plentiful; we are close friends (to Italians that means "family") with a Sicilian-American couple who owned and ran a very successful Italian restaurant which we affectionately called "our second kitchen;" and we traveled extensively through Italy where the best of the best can be found. Given all that, we are very critical of restaurants which merely label themselves "Italian." Yesterday, January 23rd, my husband and I celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary. Searching the web, we came upon La Casetta and decided to give it a try. Right from the initial encounter, we were warmly greeted by Jim who sat us and spent a minute chatting about the restaurant and what we could expect. The restaurant's atmosphere is pleasantly cozy, well-organized and spotless with the perfect-volume dinner music playing in the background. Our table server was Kane who is personable yet professional and made several suggestions to ensure our experience was special. La Casetta's menu is full of many tempting options but we settled on the following: * Bruschetta al Pomodoro - thick slices of fresh bread topped with tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil drizzled with balsamic vinegar * Crab soup - light tomato-based bisque * Veal Piccata - tender medallions with a light creamy lemon sauce topped with capers and mushrooms * Angel Hair Trapanese - pasta tossed with diced tomatoes and eggplant chunks tossed in a delicious pesto sauce and topped with shrimp * Limoncello Cake - delightfully sweet and fragrant dessert * Cannoli - a mixture of four mini vanilla and chocolate shells alternately filled with a delicate chocolate and vanilla cream Each dish was presented beautifully and flavored perfectly. From the variety of wines offered, we chose a Prosecco for toasting followed by a bottle of Sicilian Nero D'Avola. During the meal, Chef Francesco, learning it was our anniversary, left the kitchen to personally welcome us and to make sure everything was to our liking. He even spent a few moments chatting about Sicily. Overall, La Casetta perfectly fills our desire for authentic Italian food. We will definitely make this restaurant "our second kitchen" in NC. Can hardly wait to share with family and our Sicilian friends when they visit. read more

I ate here once quite a while ago, when they first opened. Slow service, cheesy decor, and just ok food made me not so enthused to go back. My husband and I both ordered the crab ravioli and it tasted like old, smelly, crab and canned sauce. I guess I am spoiled by fresh seafood living on the coast. Our friends' pizza was pretty tasty, though! I decided today to give them another shot. I used the local food delivery service, Table Takeout (nothing but great things to say about them!), and ordered Pasta e Fagioli soup and Angel Hair Trapanese (angel hair pasta with fresh tomatoes, pesto, and eggplant). The soup was almost entirely broth, and had a long dark hair immersed in it (my hair is light so it was not mine!). A huge cup of broth with a few beans at the bottom was not worth the almost $5 I paid, all hair aside. The pasta was terrible. The eggplant and tomatoes were nice, but the "pesto" tasted nothing like basil or Parmesan cheese. I am not one to use a lot of salt on my food, but this had NONE. If there was any Parmesan cheese in my pesto, I could not find it. The oil was literally pooling at the bottom of my dish. It looked and tasted like pasta that had been tossed with (way too much) oil and parsley. Without prompt, my co-worker walked by and asked what I was eating. She looked into my dish and made a face. When I told her it was supposed to be pesto, she recoiled in disgust. Sorry, I will not be returning or ordering again. I really wanted yummy pasta for lunch - too bad it was a huge disappointment. :( read more

We have dined at this restaurant several times and, unfortunately, it appears to be in need of stronger leadership. During many visits, the atmosphere has felt more like a social space for employees, their friends, and family than a customer-focused establishment. On our most recent visit, we waited approximately 10 minutes to be seated, despite there being only a few occupied tables. It then took an additional 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. When the coffee arrived, the cup was dirty, and when we requested a replacement, we received excuses rather than an apology or acknowledgment of the issue. This pattern of slow, inattentive service and lack of professionalism has been consistent on our visits. To be fair, the food quality has generally been decent to good, and we do enjoy many of the dishes offered. With more attentive management and better staff training to prioritize guests over socializing, this restaurant has the potential to be significantly better. read more

If someone suggests it, tell them you're allergic to oregano or something, so that you don't have to endure it. This one is a big NOPE for me.
