    Bistec Acaballo and Birria Quesadilla

First time to La Casa del Abuelo. We will be back. Started with the Super Baleadas with Al Pastor. Fantastic. Then on to to the Birria Quesadilla and Bistec Acaballo. Leftovers are headed to the house. And service was fantastic.

Imagine having a hidden gem right under your nose and passing by it everyday. This spot falls in that category. Not only is this one of the best restaurants in the area or even in greater Houston area but having traveled to places like NY, LA, New Orleans and Chicago, this may be one of the best restaurants in the US. The food is freshly prepared and so detailed in it's excellence. The pupusas are so flawlessly prepared. I knew before the owner told me that he must be a chef. The quality ranks up there with some of the best places I've eaten. I got the churrasco and the skirt steak was probably the best I've had. I will definitely be a regular customer .

The hostess stand was warm and welcoming, and we were seated immediately. It was just me and my daughter enjoying a little day together after her appointment nearby, and I'm so glad we decided to stop by. I've always loved this location -- the aesthetics are beautiful, and the greenery throughout the restaurant creates such a refreshing and inviting atmosphere. We started with the cheese pupusas, and they were amazing! My daughter (who's in culinary at school) had actually made pupusas in her kitchen lab that same day, so she convinced me we had to try them -- and she was right. They were absolutely delicious and the perfect appetizer to share. For our entrées, she ordered the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and said they were really good. I had the garden green salad topped with grilled shrimp and grilled chicken -- so flavorful! The sauce on the salad was amazing, and I also ordered chimichurri on the side, which made it even better. The service truly stood out. Our waiter was welcoming and attentive, and we even had two managers stop by to check on us, which made us feel valued. It was such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. This visit was definitely better than our last one several months ago -- it felt superb this time. We will absolutely be back!

I'm a big fan of places bringing a semi-upscale experience to Mexican cuisine. Gloria's is one of…read morethese places. The interior is polished and brings out the manners your mama taught you. The carne asada was prime and savory with some actually enjoyable and fresh black refried beans (most places cheap out on the beans). The rice here is enjoyable but I feel like is playing it a little safe. They could step up the Latin flavor in the rice. Great side plantains tho. The carne flameada was also very enjoyable and not too spicy so I wouldn't be too worried about it if spicy is not really your thing. Good drinks.

Authentic Dominican/Caribbean food in Willowbrook. Who knew?…read more I remember this place from a birthday party decades ago. The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed. We managed a table and ordered. Can't go wrong with the delicious shrimp mofongo. I honestly think the sauce is the icing on that cake, made all the more delicious with a squeeze of lemon. Whew! Service was fast and dinner came out at a reasonable pace. The owner is so friendly and stopped by our table to make sure things were good. Better than good! If you're in the Willowbrook area do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner. Prices are a little steep, but what's isn't these days?

I ordered the pollo guisado and moro, both were good and we have a little left over. My partner ordered the pica pollo and the fried chicken was decent. The food does take some time, and servers did not check in too often so I would recommend ordering ahead of time (unless you have a long lunch break), There are plenty of tables, but it is a little dark inside, 2 bathrooms inside. The juice was on the sweet side so just watered it down (wish they have smoothies), but they get 5 stars overall for the flavor and the price point. Plenty of parking as it's in located along other stores.

It fills the space in the best way possible and immediately pulls you in for the full experience. One thing that really stood out to me was the customer service. The staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming, which, unfortunately, hasn't always been my experience at other Colombian restaurants. Many places I've visited primarily speak Spanish, which can sometimes make ordering a challenge. Here, I felt completely at ease and well taken care of. We started with the beef empanadas, and I highly recommend them. The crust was perfectly crispy, while the filling was soft, flavorful, and comforting. Paired with their salsa, which had just the right kick of spice, it was an excellent combination that made for a strong start to the meal. I ordered my go-to favorite, the Bandejita. The presentation was beautiful and appetizing, but sadly, the bold flavors I'm used to just weren't quite there for me. The flat steak tasted under-seasoned, and I actually found myself adding salt, which I've never had to do before at other restaurants. The pork sausage also seemed a bit dry inside, but my husband said that's how it should be, so perhaps that was just my preference. The beans had a different flavor than what I'm accustomed to as well, not bad by any means, just noticeably different. On a positive note, the pork belly was perfectly crispy, exactly how it should be, and the plantains were sweet and cooked to perfection. Overall, the menu looks incredibly tempting, and there are still plenty of dishes I'd love to come back and try. While I may skip the Bandejita next time, I definitely plan on returning to explore more of what they have to offer.
