Just received my Doordash order from LaCarreta on Bluebonnet (BR,LA) and I should have known better. This is the second time. My Quesadilla order was BURNED. This is the second time. Decided to give them another chance. I am done with this location.

I visited for my nephew's birthday dinner. There was a large party there that seemed to slow the process down, but working in a restaurant I fully understand and was very patient. The food was good. Service was good.

Our waiter Frankie was great! We were playing Mahjong and he took care of us. I ordered shrimp La Diabla and they were phenomenal and good portion. He was so nice with all my friends.

    Chilaquiles - the best!!

This place is always one of our favorite spots for a nice patio lunch. Great service, food, drinks, and location. Today I had the chilaquiles, which is a nice blend of steak, eggs, beans, tortilla chips, and onions. The carnitas and la Mexicana are also delicious.

If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant that has something for everyone, La Carreta is the place for you! The food is good and the prices are reasonable. They have a daily happy hour, which is great, but know that for the discounted margs, it only applies to their house margs and not the hand-crafted ones (which come in a wide variety of delicious flavor combos - don't miss out on the pineapple cilantro!). The place itself is large with an outdoor patio (although I was there with the hubby while it was raining, so we didn't check it out). Service was quick, but our particular waitress was not super attentive (we waited a while for her to clear dishes and receive the bill while the place was not busy at all) and while I appreciated and enjoyed the large margarita I ordered, she had not asked what size I wanted, nor did she tell us about the happy hour menu limitations (it's listed on the bar menu, but not clear that not all margaritas are included - glad I know for next time. Perhaps she assumed we knew, but I've grown somewhat accustomed to people asking if was our first time dining (but perhaps I'm picky). I had the chicken chimichanga, which I normally save half of anytime I order it out, but I was so hungry and it was so delicious I completed housed it! It comes with a small salad, rice, and beans - all of which I also ate. Bonus points here for the location as it's in an area where there's a lot of housing, but not a lot of super close, non-fast food places.

    Appetizer trio
    Janine R.

A very run of mill mediocre Mexican restaurant. The complimentary salsa is smooth and tasty. The appetizer trio lacks flavor. The beef fajita nachos (one can get also have it with ground beef or chicken) was devoid of meat. Tiny little pieces of fajita meat were sprinkled about. Do not get the Chile relleno. It has absolutely no flavor. The pork tamales were the best item along with their complimentary salsa and chips. Ask for extra sauce for the tamales. The tortilla soup is actually quite good.

This was so damn good! Every time we go there.m, the birria gets better! They must've changed their recipe! This new corn was also sooo delicious. The churros have a vanilla filling that was perfect.

La Carreta's service was absolutely great and the inside is very nice, super vibrant. Great service can only do so much, the food was quite below average. I settled on the quesa-Birria and Al carbon tacos... The quesa-Birria tacos looked great but there's really not any flavor and the meat isn't very tender at all. The soup is just... ehh. The Al carbon tacos were a dud as well cold corn tortillas, it wouldn't hurt to warm the tortilla on the grill. The meat was so dry and chewy and once again... where was the flavor?!

    Verde chicken enchilada
    Nasiah R.

Horrible horrible experience. The restaurant was riddled with bugs. I was so disgusted. It wasn't until long after we already ordered our food and we were waiting that we noticed there were several flying insects (including gnats and a wasp!) I was disgusted and couldn't enjoy (or finish) my food. I ordered the verde chicken enchiladas. My food was subpar, bland, and disappointing. The chips tasted mediocre and stale. Also, the waitress was way too close for comfort. The staff was unmasked and the waitress consistently got way too "up close and personal". I was very uncomfortable by how close the waitress got in my face while speaking with us. This seemed incredibly inappropriate, especially considering the waitress was unmasked and we are in a pandemic. If you're hoping for good Tex-Amex, look elsewhere.

Shrimp Ceviche (half eaten before I could get a picture)
    Joe T.

Enchiladas de mole. Burritos al pastor. Ceviche. Duck quesadillas. Lots of great choices that are not found every day. The shrimp ceviche was bright, fresh, and had a strong lime flavor. Enchiladas de mole were excellent. A shot of Cholula hot sauce on top and I just lost all control. So, so good!! Best enchiladas I've had in a long time. Good salsa with a little heat and good cilantro flavor. I like it a little chunkier, but it has good flavor. Service was a little on the slow side. (Okay - it got worse the longer we stayed.) Never received the order of tortillas we asked for - and not because they were crazy busy - it was a slow Sunday afternoon. But the tortillas were on our ticket. (Waiter took them off without hesitation, so that's good). Four stars for the food. Definitely a place to keep on your list for good Mexican food!

    Happy National Margarita Day!

Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

We came on a Sunday, and I got a delicious brunch!…read more The restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, so we got seated right away. Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
