Mushroom and Swiss cheese omelette.

Went out for a delicious brunch at La Cannelle Cafe recently. I had a mushroom and Swiss cheese omelette, and it was cooked just as I requested. My friend is a vegetarian. There weren't a lot of options for her on the menu, and the avocado toast came with an egg which she removed. More options for vegetarians and vegans would be nice. The service was great, and low pressure. That's something we appreciate when gathering to eat and chat. The decor is interesting with a variety of paintings on the walls, as well as a large glass window that lets in a lot of light. That leads to the only negative point - noise. The hardwood floors, ceiling, and glass make the space into an echo chamber. Since there were lots of patrons that made it very difficult to hear each other.

The service was great and the inside of the cafe is so quaint! My omelette was good, and the dessert and coffee were amazing

Chicken Salad Sandwich

This is the cutest little cafe that we stopped in to for brunch recently. The service was very good and several of the menu items looked enticing. I had the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. The salad was fresh and dressing delicious. The only reason not 5 stars is that the chicken salad was VERY salty. I love salty food but could see others finding this level of salt intolerable. Some other reviews look so good! I would love to come back and try more of the selection so I can update the review to 5 stars!

Bacon and Gouda fondue with mushrooms and sunny eggs

We had brunch here this morning and everything was absolutely delicious. Not one complaint. The service was great. It's a small, comfortable, homey space. We will definitely be back. This was the best brunch we've had in a long time.

Gouda fondue potatoes with mushrooms and bacon and eggs

My daughter and three young grandsons and I had an absolutely wonderful brunch here this morning! My daughter got her usual breakfast - the fondue potatoes and eggs. She loves that dish. She ordered the grilled cheese and potatoes, French toast, and scrambled egg whites and potatoes for the boys. They really did a good job eating most of it all up. On typical outings with them, they barely touch their food so I was impressed on how quickly they gobbled this up. It was my first time there but I quickly settled on the corned beef Benedict. It was so good, and I loved that it came on a nice piece of sourdough - I never order Eggs Benedict because I don't really like English muffins that much. Anyway, this was really very good and I will likely order it again next time. It's a cute and quite small place, but the staff was very accommodating and efficient. Overall, it was a wonderful brunch and I can't wait to go there again sometime.

Lemon Pound Cake French Toast & Breakfast Sandwich with Potatoes

This cafe is a hole in the wall that I've driven past countless times in my life until I finally decided to stop in and I'm so glad I did! I've had the lemon pound cake French toast and it was amazing as well as the breakfast sandwich. I'd recommend getting the breakfast sandwich with bacon or sausage on it since it might give the sandwich the little piece I felt was missing. The cafe is tight on space and it appeared as though they had only one chef in the kitchen, however the staff was all nice and were able to seat us quickly on a Saturday for brunch. Additionally, the food got out to us relatively quickly despite the number of customers in the cafe. I'll definitely be returning here in the near future to try more!

Busy street corner but service was wonderful and it was nice to sit out in the sun. The French toast on challah bread was amazing. Perfectly fluffy with raspberries and fresh whipped cream - no regrets! Had a latte as well that was decent. Open for dine in and outdoor dining!

A special, the duck l'orange

We love that this tiny restaurant is close by and while there are only about 10-12 tables, it's cozy and comfortable and is a BYOB, our favorite. Another plus is that the menu seems to be different from other restaurants with a variety of French dishes, and we appreciate that they are trying. Additionally, our server was warm and attentive. We started our meal with the roasted grape and arugula salad which was big enough to share. I decided to try the special which was the duck l'orange. I immediately had buyer's remorse as the portion was small and not very moist and had the skin on top. There were no sides except for the orange pieces and a bit of cabbage. Just an okay dish. My husband had the chicken and burrata. He had difficulty eating it as the stems were left on the grapes, and there were many little pieces that he kept having to pick off or spit out. We may give this local restaurant another try in the future, but we'll be careful how we order.

One of the 5 tables with our handpicked wild flowers in small vases and the preset menus. Gift table in background.

We hosted a private event (30 people) here for a milestone birthday in March 2023. The food, service and ambiance were fantastic. The staff really worked collaboratively with us to customize a menu for the occasion. They are BYOB but helped with setting up the bar and had servers pouring the wine and after dinner drinks. Very reasonably priced especially considering the quality and quantity of food. Almost too much food quite frankly. The owner/manager is very easy to work with and is very knowledgeable about hosting mid-sized events. Highly recommend.

mushroom gnocchi special

Atypical presentations, good service, tasty food, pleasant atmosphere. We had the beet & fennel salad to share (which they kindly split onto two separate plates for us without even asking), the lamb kafta (basically a lamb burger with a tasty green sauce on top and crema underneath), goat ragu tagliatelle, and mushroom gnocchi. All very nice! I would have liked a couple slices of bread to soak up the sauces. For dessert, the chocolate pot de creme seemed a bit wrong as it was more like chocolate truffles, but it was good.

Appetizer/amuse bouche on the 3-course dinner for 2

This resto is the definition of neighborhood gem, located in an unassuming little spot, but filled with deliciousness, warmth and character (and byob!). We went for dinner on a weeknight and tried their 3 course meal -- the only downside being that we had the same dishes and didn't get to try more of the menu (no problem as we'll be back). An appetizer of mini savory puff pastry shells filled with a sweet fruit preserve started us off, and was followed by a couple housemade brioche-type buns, then honey pear salad, and then our main, which was a wide pasta topped with a delicious beef ragu. Dessert was a pistachio creamy panna cotta-like affair to be shared, topped with fresh blueberries. Our waitress told us her sister was the chef, and that they may introduce some of their family's Moroccan dishes in the future --- we hope so!!

This time, we arrived at 11 on a Sunday, and the wait was expected to be about 30 minutes. We decided to stick it out this time. Lo and behold, after 30 minutes, we got the call--it was raining so we hung out under a nearby awning-- and away we went to sit at the window counter/bar, which afforded us a nice view of people going in and out as they joined the queue. I now understand why people line up for this place: they serve an outstanding brunch. I had one of the omelettes of the day, which in this case was artichoke, bacon and mozzarella. While that may seem like an odd combination--I can't remember ever having an omelette with artichoke in it--it totally worked. In fact, it was one of the best omelettes I've had in recent memory. It also came with a yummy biscuit (especially yummy if you ask them to bring you honey butter) and breakfast potatoes (I accessorized their ketchup with a bit of hot sauce and bingo). My dining companion also really enjoyed his spinach, feta and mushroom omelette. Service was friendly and efficient without ever making us feel rushed. Prices are reasonable, and there are a whole lot of things that looked yummy around us, especially the challah stuffed French toast--I definitely wouldn't mind splitting that with a friend on a future visit.

It was a bustling yet comfortable little restaurant, split into two separate rooms. The Huevos Rancheros didn't disappoint - I ordered mine with the coffee rubbed short rib. It really was good and it was cooked perfectly. The crispy potatoes were so good and actually crispy, unlike most other places that just have a little crisp to them. I adore home fries, and they can be hard to cook just right, so I really enjoyed these. The service was great and the waitress was so friendly. The perfect amount of food and I clean my plate everytime. Although, not enough for leftovers. I've gotten the 14 Hour Pork Butt Omelette and the Kennett Square Omelette. Both were delicious! My boyfriend and family have had the Huevos Rancheros--which looked amazing and I was told it was delicious. Looked like a lot of food too, so if you want something more filling and hearty, I'd get that over the omelettes. They've also had the breakfast sandwiches, which looked like a steal for the price and very good as well. The coffee, hot chocolate and tea is great too, and fairly priced! I get a drink every time, and they make sure you have refills, sugar, honey, whatever you want with it. Overall I recommend this place as a pretty good option if you're in Media!

Being around since the beginning, I have seen the place grow and change, and what they have created is quite wonderful and something the community truly loves. However, along with that, the new feel does leave me longing for the days of the small space that we would frequent every single Friday morning for coffee and a delicious handcrafted breakfast, in a place that remembered who we were and was small enough it was easy to customize our meal. While this hasn't necessarily changed, the owner, a wonderfully nice man who still remembers my family and I, is simply doing what a business owner should: strive to grow that business and provide the best service and experience available. I cannot fault the Brickhaus for any of that at all, and I highly recommend that everyone visit here, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings when there is live music. Particularly when the recurring jazz trio is there who really blows it out of the water. All that being said, I have noticed that in the ensuing years since their expansion, the quality of the experience and the food has declined far beyond what I used to live about this place. The coffee and drinks are still as good as they ever were, but the overall food and service quality of the 'restaurant' portion. Has changed, and has resulted in my infrequency of visits. I do highly recommend the the rösti potatoes and always whatever specials they are running, but some of my go-to favorites like the avocado toast simply are not what they used to be and are not worth it. I still love it here but I simply cannot recommend it as I would have years ago.

Opting for stuffed chicken (me) and hot turkey dinner (he) both with house made stuffing and accompanied by home made mashed with gravy. These meals felt like home. So much so that I didn't even take pictures! As the primary cook in the household it is nice to have a home cooked meal that I didn't cook myself. Something about it just tastes better. This is the feeling eating at Ashley's gave me. In addition to a whole full service bar with live music, Ashley's has a separate dining door with a salad bar that runs almost the full length. Packed full of any salad topping you can think of. In addition to the salad bar regulars you will find blue cheese, radishes, chick peas, mushrooms, peas, multiple salads, jalapeños marinated cheese, raisins, craisins, tortilla strips and also... hot bacon dressing. As much as I wanted to try, I passed and stayed safe with the balsamic. In the end Ashley's delivered what we didn't know we needed. A cozy and relaxed Sunday dinner without the dishes. We will be back when in the area for sure.
