I first started coming here over 20 years ago and it is my go-to Mexican place when I am back in the LA area. I was so excited to eat lunch here since it has been awhile. La Cabaña has become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants during the COVID shutdown. with all of the dishes I've tried ranging from good to incredible. Consequently I can't speak to the dine-in experience, but I'm looking forward to checking it out when things open up (Note: it looks like La Cabaña does have on-site dining.) It's a good sign when a restaurant does the basic well. Some restaurants do one or two entrees well, and many more just hope the cheap "margaritas" distract from other flaws. Not the case here. At la Cabaña, rice, beans, and tortillas are all great (homemade tortillas if you dine in). I don't normally rave about take-out chips and salsa, but the cooked salsa here is pretty good, and the portions of both salsa and chips are generous. It's hard to pick a favorite dish. The seafood is good. Their Mexican shrimp cocktail is like a really fresh and tangy gazpacho with big juicy shrimp; it's big enough to be a light meal by itself. It was my son's 21st birthday and we needed a Mexican restaurant in the West LA area that was open on Mondays and appeared to have decent food (from the photos). La Cabana was where we landed. Staff was extremely attentive and friendly, the ambience was great, the chips and salsa were addicting, the entrees were DElicious, the desserts were mouth-watering and the prices were reasonable. - As with any restaurant it had its best dishes. La Casa Quesadilla with rice and beans and tortilla soup. Best tortilla soup I've ever had! (Don't tell my mother). Very occasionally it can be on the salty side so just let them know. Chicken crispy tacos deep fried and home made, amazing! I usually prefer soft tacos but here the crispy are the choice. Get one of each! Fish tacos great. And REAL Barbacoa!!! - Handmade tortillas on the fireplace in the middle of the restaurant! - Open till 3am, 7 days! A friend and I were out of luck at our usual westside Mexican local for good food and a margarita, they were having a gas leak problem. ( Gilberts El Indio A+ ) So we went to another restaurant in Venice La Cabana. One gentleman working at this place made the whole night miserable. The food was good the margarita so-so, but the waiter was horrible. Beware a 5'7" clean-cut Mexican with a silver stud in his ear if you see him turn around and save your $82. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give this review 3 or 4 stars. Honestly, the food wasn't as good as I remembered. I used to live really close to this place 30 years ago and ate here often. I loved it then, especially the homemade flour tortillas made on-site. They still make them and they are oh so good. That hasn't changed. And the service was pretty awesome! Now, as for my meal, I was disappointed, unfortunately. I had the Carne asada made from rib eye. It wasn't very flavorful. It had way too much fat, and seemed like a cheap piece of meat. My plate was loaded with beans and rice and relied on them to fill me up. I don't know what was going on with the Carne asada, but it just wasn't great. Barely good, actually. Nevertheless, I always loved this place and would be willing to give it another try at some point. I don't think I can recommend my dish to anyone though. read more

We just got home from our first visit to this establishment. We were very pleased with the experience. It is a very classic Mexican restaurant offering the traditional items one wants and expects from this kind of place. Service was excellent. Our waiter was quick to welcome us and bring water and take drinks orders. There is a full bar, but we enjoyed delicious margaritas. The food was freshly prepared and was very tasty. We had enchiladas, tamales, and chili relleno. The decor is also traditional, and there is patio dining as well as indoor. We look forward to returning. read more

Upon entering you are greeted by classically dressed staff. It can get crowded but most times you can get a table easily. The food is well prepared and served. It isn't cheap but it is always good. The bar is in the back and the margaritas are decent. La Cabana does a great job serving food and preserving tradition. 4.5.22 9 1/2 years later I visited for my last time. I sat and was enjoying myself and the anticipation of my food when some Florida looking dorks wearing tank tops with tattoos and dogs came and sat down. The lames immediately went to looking at their phones while the 2 dogs tried to jump up and see what was on the table. I bailed. I have been to La Cabana multiple times, and ordered many items on the menu. Their tacos are great but what I love from La Cabana is the basics-beans and rice. Although a staple at any Mexican restaurant, they do a good job here. The beans are creamy and rich, the rice is fluffy and flavorful. I also love getting the double skinny margaritas. The drink is a perfect combination of tequila and tart limes. It's not super sweet which tastes better to my palate. In COVID times I have gotten deliveries from La Cabana-it's pretty fast and tastes just a great. read more

It was 02/22/22 and I just had to have taco Tuesday. Stopped here because they had a descent taco Tuesday deal. First impression, very authentic. Sat down and was given incredible chips and salsa. Fresh and SPICY. The entree came out (the taco special) and unfortunately the plate fell short because the meat was tough and really bland. We were in the area and nothing else was open so my friend and I decided to go back. They charged us $7 for a side of guacamole. We each had a plate of 2 enchiladas with rice and beans. We didn't order any drinks. The bill came to $58. I left the server an $11 tip because he did his job well. Many food establishments are exploiting the headlines that inflation is at a 40 year high, but these prices are ridiculous. The current inflation rate in America is just above 8% per year. La Cabana's prices have increased double that over the last 2 years. Won't be going back there. If you stop serving at 10:45, then don't say that you close at 11. What does the word "close" even mean if one can't place a meal order after 10:45, or even at 10:55? If you stop serving before 11, then don't say that you close at 11. Post the time that you stop taking orders as your closing time. If you stop accepting customers at 10:45 or even 10:55, do you think people are going to place their order and woof it down in 15 or 5 minutes so you can close the place and have everyone out by 11? It's called customer service and setting the expectation of the customer. If you stop taking orders before 11, then say that. I mean truly, what does "close" even mean? Imagine if the stock market worked this way. The market closes at 4pm but you have to stop trading at 3:45. If this were the case, then the word "close" has zero meaning. Being accommodating to customers is always a good thing, especially at these prices. There weren't so many people eating at your establishment when we were there the other night. Valentine's Day is a treat at La Cabaña. I made reservations as a surprise for my wife. She had no idea where we were going until I got on the freeway. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly greeted, and they were immediately ready to seat us, although I did arrive about 20 minutes early. We asked for seating inside so we could enjoy the live music. We got a seat right in front. Great table, good vibes already. We ordered drinks and the race was on to find a couple of great dishes. My wife always like the "Pechugas de Angel" a grilled chicken and cream sauce with beans. She politely declined the rice. I ordered the steak fajitas with homemade corn tortillas. Yes sir..no store bought tortillas for La Cabaña. Fresh tortillas tasted delicious. The fajitas were on point. Side of rice, beans, and pico de gallo with guacamole and sour cream to boot. Yes, you could find a dish "like" this at any Mexican restaurant. But you're not going to find THIS dish anywhere else. Because La Cabaña does it right! No dessert today. My family was in town and we ordered from here the night before Thanksgiving. The "street taco party pack" comes in two sizes. We ordered the large (for $99 for 4-6 people) and added some sides (we were 5 people). The order arrived and there was a tiny amount of chicken in a regular pie pan size dish. I thought they accidentally sent the small and I called the restaurant. The guy said, nope, that's the large. Ridiculous for $99 (plus sides almost $200). It really was enough for 2 people. If it wasn't for the chips and guacamole and rice and beans we ordered, we would have been hungry. The guy did not care that we were unhappy. I won't be going/ordering from here again. I gave 2 stars instead of one because the food is decent (although standard Mexican fare). read more

Ordered here after finding them on Ubereats. They recommended ordering directly from their site where they also do delivery and I didn't mind because I'd rather the money 100% go to the business. They even give text updates about your order and whatnot so I really appreciated it. However, the food was absolutely terrible. I ordered enchiladas with rice and beans and a tortilla soup. The enchiladas were barely edible, the chicken was dry and it had very little flavor and spice. It was as bland as you could get. The tortilla soup was inedible and I didn't finish it. Whatever, I was hungry and that's the most important thing, MY HUNGER :p So we started with margaritas and a cup of albondigias. My borracho margarita barely got me buzzed, it's like I needed a tequila shot grrrrr. The soup was ok, tasted bettered when I crunched up the tortilla chips inside it. For our entrees I ordered the chorizo potato quesadilla combo, came with green rice and pinto beans which I hate and made me jealous because my friends meal came with refried beans so I ate off their plate more LOL. I forgot what they ordered besides that. My quesadilla was packed with more potato than chorizo :( It was basically a cheese potato quesadilla and I mainly ordered this for the chorizo! It had no salty goodness :/ The rice was good and paired well with the refried beans my friend had lol I didn't touch those pinto beans. My friend ate all their food so I guess no complaints on that side. This meal was a wham bam meal and this place has lost it's essence it used to have years ago. One taco, two Patron shots, and twenty minutes later we were seated in the restaurant in a cozy booth for five. The tacos at the bar are awesome! While we waited for our pager to go off, we enjoyed $5 silver Patron shots and chicken tacos at the bar. My group really just came for drinks and to catch up. Still, we ordered some items a la carte. The chili rellano was really good, not too greasy or cheesy. The sope was HUGE, including the ingredients on top (see picture)... though it must not have been that traditional since it was made with shredded lettuce, not cabbage. Overall the food here is good, generous portions, and not spicy. Add some of their famous salsa and it tastes a whole lot better! The only a la carte item we've ordered that was tiny was the empanada. Hopefully the next time I head out this way there will be a parking lot in that empty land directly to the right of La Cabana Restaurant.
