After trying several other Pilates studios that felt impersonal, Motivate was such a breath of fresh air. Every single instructor is fantastic, but a few deserve a special mention. Odet is incredibly knowledgeable. This girl knows fitness! She knows exactly how to challenge and motivate her clients. Christine's positive energy, smile and genuine kindness make every class such a joy. Alin is also another amazing and motivating instructor. And Courtney somehow delivers an amazing workout while keeping everyone laughing, it's like getting a comedy show with your Pilates class! I can go on and on about each and every single instructor. Both studios are true gems for the Montrose and Glendale communities. The instructors, the atmosphere, and the workouts are second to none. I genuinely look forward to every class. What I appreciate most is how easy it is to communicate with her. I can confidently talk through cases, movement patterns, or specific concerns, and she just gets it. I used to only do cardio and never enjoyed going to the gym, especially without guidance, but this has been the perfect alternative. With consistent classes, I've noticed a huge improvement in my strength, built muscle, and feel much more toned overall. I've taken classes with several different instructors, and they're all really great, but I have to give a special shoutout to Helene. She gives clear, helpful instruction and thoughtful adjustments, and she really knows how to challenge you and push you to improve. Her classes are never boring. She mixes things up with different moves and keeps it fresh every time. On top of that, she makes class genuinely fun and always gets us laughing, which is a nice distraction from the burn! Jaime teacher's classes are sometimes challenging, but she takes the time to adjust each exercise to my level of ability, making sure that I get the most out of each session. She's also very attentive and makes sure that I am using the correct form. It helped out a lot with the condition I am suffering from. (backache, shoulder pain, the usual that comes with having bad posture). Currently, I am currently taking private and group classes at Crescendo Pilates. She also has group classes, but she informed me that usually you would have to be invited. It is located in a plaza across from Ace Hardware and there are plenty of parking. The instructor was quick to reply and very kind in answering any questions. I haven't personally been trained by her, but my friend highly recommended here and I trust her judgment. Top tier in my book. The neighborhood is super cute, parking is easy, and the facility is clean. So what's not to like? I'm just not a fan of the Montrose studio over their other locations. The room gets so hot and we're not even in the dead of summer yet. I'm not sure if A/C is limited or what's going on with the ventilation. Also, the layout of the space is narrow but long. Machines are spread out with enough space in between each other, but they're basically stacked vertically (one behind another for a few rows). It does seem to be the most space-conscious arrangement for what they are working with, but it's hard to follow if you're all the way in the back and the instructor is demo'ing a new move or if the instructor is newer or not superbly clear throughout class. If this studio location is close to you, do NOT skip on Motivate! Bring grip socks (if you don't want to buy them there) and be on time. If you're early, check out the boutiques and mom-in-pops along Honolulu Avenue. Choose a machine in or near the front unless you're a regular.

Working with Zonnie has built up my core and strength overall. I'm more toned and have lost weight. But what I really need to recommend is working with Zonnie herself. She adapts each lesson to how my mind and my body are feeling that day. She has helped me focus or be Zen when I come in frazzled or will accommodate on days when I'm just plain tired. I went to many, MANY places, and they were either too basic or so fast and shouting through a mic that people were going to get hurt. That is NOT the experience you'll get at Pilates Eagle Rock. Jen is a true master, she's had the studio for over 20 years and really knows her stuff. I think I know what I'm doing, then she gives that tiny tweak and I realize I know nothing!! Penny and Sofia are also favorites of mine and SUPER GOOD too. They're former dancers, as am I, so really know how dancers move - and sometimes over extend - to keep me in check. There is no parking lot, but they have small classes and it's super easy to park, so don't let that deter you.

She gave guidance to the guy in the class and one of the girls, but none to me. She asked me afterwards how I liked the class, and I was VERY honest with my response which I can tell she wasn't too happy about. I gave it some time and decided to give it another shot except this time with a different instructor. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I was so much happier with this instructor. I liked it that much, I came back again and tried out another different instructor but this time, I didn't need any guidance because by the 3rd time here, I was familiar with the class routine. The class is challenging depending on the instructor. It REALLY makes a big difference who's teaching the class especially if you are a newbie to the studio. Studio is nice and clean. There's an area where you can place your stuff. The bathroom is nice and there are some amenities provided for women which is great. Plenty of free parking in a shared lot, but it can get pretty busy sometimes. There is street parking available which is also free.
