Ordered the fried pork ribs... amazing! Only to be outdone by the Pupusas, which we had never experienced before. Melty cheese sandwiched between light layers of masa, served with an amazing sauce. Probably the best Cuban I've had in a long time. Super flavorful and delicious. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because their Chimichurri sandwich could use a little bit more. I just felt as though it was a pretty basic sandwich compared to the Cuban. All in all good shit. read more

Very disappointed , read such great reviews but my experience was not the same. First our food took an hour to come, we watched other customers come after us and still receive their food before us . Am understanding when it comes to these type of situations but this was ridiculous . We just kept getting apologies and that our food would come soon. When we finally got our food it was such a let down, the chicharron was not crispy, the breaded chicken was so bland and the rice was horrible. My husband and I loved eating here so much, he ordered an extra meal to go for his dinner that night at work. (I even stole a bit to try that, Yum!). I had the pork belly which was decent, with yummy Chorizo, and some good carne asada. The plantains were amazing. I could have eaten an entire plate of them and been happy. My husband had the waffle deluxe and ordered pork pineapple to go, he loved both. We walked in and only saw another table in the restaurant, the two girls working looked at us like we were bothering them. Still waited... and waited... finally I asked the one server to order and she seemed, again, bothered. I am from Colombia, and this is one of the most authentic places I have been to. Thank you Carlos for a wonderful experience. The food, the atmosphere and service where phenomenal. Everyone was extra friendly and welcoming like being in a true Latin American spot. We had three young children and they made them feel right at home. The Mojito and Pina Colada were amazing. The bandeja paisa was incredible. The Colombian cheese dip was to die for. We have not had a Cuban sandwich like that in 10 years since we left Florida. We got a ton of food and ate it for days. I visited LaBodega with my nephews on Saturday for brunch. I ordered Camarones Mariscos as this was the only menu item that offered seafood. I tried to order the Classico with shrimp as my meat item but that was a no-go once I was informed that the upcharge would have been $5-6, no thanks. I was pleased with bed of rice since I'm a sucker for good rice, the plantains and salad were good as well. But the scampi style shrimp in garlic sauce!! It was more like large amounts of minced garlic atop each piece of shrimp, not my favorite. Nephew 1 had the Classico, scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, potatoes, and toast. He loves his eggs cheesy but said that these were "OD" by themselves complimented well when all items were on the fork together, lol. Nephew 2 had Chicken & Toast, but subbed a waffle. His review was that the chicken was good but the waffle was too thin, it pretty much crumbled when trying to cut it. This little restaurant was very cute with lots of bright colors decorating the walls. The restaurant was on the smaller side, but gave it a very home-y feel. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted immediately, and were able to decide on where to sit. Service was great! Our server was very attentive, and even gave us a run down of what their most popular dishes on the menu are. The menu is HUGE, very authentic Spanish/Colombian dishes. As pictured, we went with the Bistec Palomilla (steak, rice, black beans, onions, tostones) and the Bandeja Paisa (steak, chorizo, chicharrones, avocado, fried tortilla, egg, plantains, rice, pinto beans). Both were beautifully decorated with a blue flower, and both were AMAZING. The portions were also HUGE. We could have easily shared one plate, but we wanted to try different things. The steak was not dry at all, and all of the meats had great quality and well seasoned. The tostones were a little dry, and would have been better with sour cream or sauce. (They don't serve sour cream) I really enjoyed the rice and beans, as they were cooked perfectly. I am definitely going to come back! The fries were inedible - unless you like soggy mush; seemed to have been cooked hours before. Ended up tossing them in the trash. The empanadas were pretty good. Asked for extra chimichanga sauce - didn't get it. Some of the chicken sandwich went to the dog. Had been to the restaurant pre-pandemic and gave them high marks for the food, but particularly the service and cocktails. At that time it everything was cooked fresh as we were waiting at a table. Just opened, this place is sure to be a big hit in RVA! Across from a Mexican Restaurant, the menu boasts a chock full of common Latin dishes like Arroz con Pollo, Ropa Vieja, Pernil, empanadas, platanos, and on and on and on. No fancy names (except for the specialty libations) just good ol' Latin food. Breakfast served all day. The portions are huge and could not be more authentic. Mom's pernil - may she rest in peace - was always the best, but this was almost as good, and the arroz con pollo was fantastic. Carlos, the "owner's husband & employee", as he put it, is welcoming and accommodating as is the rest of the wait staff. The place is small - a couple of 4 tops, and 2 tops - which will discourage larger groups and families but it is called La Bodega for a reason. A great find! read more
