So this was my first time coming here the food was eh atleast mine had no seasoning tasted bland at least at some salt..but the thing that upset me the most was that they automatically charge me 15% gratuity for pick up I didn't even dine in and if you didn't notice this and after paying they hand you the check the part you sign it even asks for tip there too so if you didn't notice the automatic tip for picking up not even dining in then that means you're tipping 2 times and they don't even tell you it's included so you basically could be tipping twice since when is 15% for pick a thing??? This is some bs charging me almost $7 to pick up my own food fawk it why not just deliver it then I bet they charge you tip even then on top of what you would give the delivery person so watch out for this shit. read more

To start off we ordered the queso frito that was fried cheese on toast which was out of this world the honey gave it hint if sweetness that made that cheese extra delicious! For drinks we ordered the aqua fresca watermelon edition which i literally could not stop drinking. I felt like thor slammin down a mug saying "ANOTHER". Took a 2 hour drive for Spanish food and was not disappointed! This place is the bomb. We got pina coladas, pernil, the Cuban sandwich, and the dish with multiple meats, an egg, and avocado. Compliments to the chef! Everything was cooked perfectly. They serve A LOT of food - we got our food to go and 3 dishes probably weighed 20 lbs. we had enough for lunch and dinner! All the food looked like it was cooked early in the week and constantly reheated on a steam table over and over until it was mush, basically poorly handled leftovers. It was ready far too fast for any of it to have been cooked fresh, literally the time it takes to slop something onto a plate. If I want leftovers, I would stay home. There was almost no flavor in anything. Looking at the other reviews, I concede we may have caught them on a bad night but it was Friday night in a bar district, so you would think that night would be their A-game. Service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was charming and cozy with original street-style artwork. It's just the food was awful with all the hallmarks of just not trying. Added: I find the practice of putting semi-wilted flowers on every plate ridiculous. All it does is add to the price of the meal. I've eaten here several times since it opened, and La Bodega is now one of my favorite spots for lunch. El Cubano may be the best Cuban sandwich in RVA. I do wish it was open early enough to have some of the breakfast dishes for breakfast, but they're all just as good at lunchtime. Some really cool artwork on the walls. Now onto the important stuff, I really like the variety on the menu. The dishes cover columbian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Salvadoran and NY. After having reviewed the menu I chose the churro French toast, which came with eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and potatoes. Everything about this breakfast was great! The food was served very quickly. Now I came here for breakfast but after seeing some other options like Pernil on the menu I will definitely be back! I am really looking forward to trying some other options on the menu. I went to this place on a whim bc LuLus was packed. So my friend and I sit down. First thing off rip you'll notice is that is smells stale in there. Like they need to open a window and let some fresh air in. I HATE when a restaurant smells like that bc it makes me think it's dirty and then I get kinda grossed out. But whatevs, we stayed. We both were in awe of the menu because literally EVERYTHING sounds yummy. So we decided we wanted breakfast so we both went with the colombiano which is pictured below. It was good, but nothing I'd rave about. The eggs were cooked v well, the rice and beans were good although I feel could have used a little bit of salt and I am not the type of person who adds salt to everything, but I resolved that myself by adding some. The sausage was crispy and bordered the line of too crispy, but the arepa was good. All in all, I'd recommend and I hope to come back soon! OH WAIT - DONT wanna leave this out... I've always passed by this place on the way home and finally paid this place a visit! Super unique food. I'm not sure how authentic it is but the food was very different and tasty! Ordered the bandeja because it looked so yummy from the photos. Sadly the pork wasn't as good as I had hoped but it may have been because we came near close, so that might've affected the freshness factor. It was hard to chew and less crispy. Wow! Where do I begin....we found this gem of Latin cuisine in downtown Richmond, VA on our way home to Florida. All because we needed a Latin fix after days of traveling and eating food on the go. As soon as you walk in is where your senses are hit with the smell of that Latin 'sazón (seasoning)' and then you are transported to New York City 90's vintage memorabilia, grafiti wall art, caricatures, and you even get the Statue of Liberty to join you for dinner. The nostalgia in this place is heartwarming. Ok, so let's get to the food. We ordered an elote, ribs, rice & chicken on the grill and flan. The chicken breast was perfectly seasoned. But the highlight was the ribs. These ribs will be talked about for a while in my books. They were crispy on the outside but they came apart when you eat them. They had a hint of sweet on the outside that balanced the flavor with the salty taste of the meat. If in La Bodega, the ribs are a must. We decided to compliment the Chef for the great food. This place is AH-MAY-ZING. It's an intimate little space but it's cute! And it feels authentic, vibe wise. The owner has been there both times I'm there and he's super funny and nice. The drinks are amazing, they do NOT skimp on their pours. It made for one boozy lunch (which is my favorite kind of lunch ;)) And the food, OH MY GOD. It's so good, and made with what tastes like high quality ingredients. I had a pineapple rice chicken dish the first time, and I was like this is the best grilled chicken I've had in forever. My friend had the "Notorious PIG" and I thought he was going to pass out, he was so happy. They have these two must have sauce/dips, one is an Ají Picante that literally makes EVERYTHING better. It's seriously so good on everything. The other is like this creamy sweet sauce, it's SO good. I am Dominican and know those tostones were old and re-fried. We got the Cubano, pupusa and empanada for lunch, delivered to my office. The food was so good, but portions are huge! Saved the empanadas for dinner, and we split the sandwich and had one pupusa each. I have half of the half sandwich left. Food was delicious and we will definitely go back for the platters. The design was eclectic with a street art influence. The service was badass. When I asked the server to make me a drink that was not too sweet, she made a citrus one and made it a double. She said, "Not too sweet? Just add alcohol!" She also took a shot with us. They only had two tables of 4 and a handful of 2-tops. I moved to Indianapolis, IN nearly 2 years ago from a very diverse and densely populated Washington, D.C. Being Boricua, It's been a struggle trying to find authentic latin island food in the general region. I came to Louisville one day and happened to try La Bodega with low expectations but happened to be very pleasantly surprised. It was super lively and felt like family upon arrival. The Pollo al Mojo was amazzzing and I usually can't stand restaurant made plantains (maduros) but they were done so well. The rice was also so rich in flavor and reminded me of my family's cooking. I got the guanabana (soursop) juice to go with my meal and that didn't disappoint, either. Can't wait to come back and try another dish!! read more

I was so sorry that our brunch had run its course but I was happy, full, and deeply satisfied. The bloody mary was spicy, just like I asked, and didn't have that cheap mix taste that is the norm at so many brunch locations. My wife had a rum cocktail that she adored. Walking in, another satisfied patron on his way out enthusiastically recommended the Brooklyn Biscuits with Charizo gravy. I was tempted by a half dozen other options -- that I'll need to return to try -- but went with the recommendation. I was not disappointed in the least. WOW, that was amazing. My wife had the four egg, tomato and onion omelet and loved it. The portions were huge and presented beautifully. Carlos, the owner, came out to chat and was a delightful addition to an already stellar experience. The servers were kind, prompt, cheerful, and helpful. The biscuit and gravy plate was fantastic; tender biscuits smothered with chorizo spiced pork gravy, soft scrambled eggs (perfectly cooked), home fries with onions and red peppers. The plate was more than I could eat in one sitting. I normally season my eggs with Tabasco sauce, but with the chorizo gravy, there was no need for any additional condiments.
