I'm from New York and Spanish food is my love language. I love this food. The service is impeccable and is a quaint atmosphere.

We both preferred the mayo ketchup , it had a ranch-like flavor. The real highlight, though, was the Mojitos. I had the strawberry Mojito and my husband had the spicy mango Mojito, and both were made to perfection. I'm a lightweight and definitely underestimated mine. I drank it too fast and was already tipsy by the time we hit the door! On top of the great food and drinks, the service was friendly and helpful, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, the food, drinks, and atmosphere were fantastic. We're already looking forward to coming back, especially to enjoy the live music.

You literally feel like you're walking into their home FILLED with love and Puerto Rican pride!! We had Garlic Chicken Mofongo with and without Chicharron. Vibrant flavors through and through. Came with a side salad to interrupt the richness. The Empanadas (Chicken and Gauva were our choices) were large, flaky, fresh and filled with deliciousness! Crust is VERY light, they use that GOOD lard! Now...the drinks are nothing to be played with! The Mojitos (Passionfruit) and Pitorro (Pineapple, Tamarind y Coconut Chai) will have you curled up sucking your thumb! They have a stage ready to bring in the best Musicians specializing in sounds from Salsa, Merengue, Jibaro, Bomba and all styles in between! The stage is set in front of a large Puerto Rican flag, which gives a FANTASTIC experience that made us feel like we were at our favorite Boriqua's casa en la Isla! Viva la Puerto Rico!

Pre-pandemic, this was a place where we would have dine-in visits with friends of ours from a social group or just the two of us. It was probably close to a year since we last appeared so it was time to stop by. Similiar to the past visits, I called in our orders. They greeted me promptly when I walked in where there was only one table occupied. Quick and easy. For our orders, which both served as dinner and lunch for work at our respective sites, we chose their Cubano sandwich with our usual sides (fries for myself and plantains for Sophia). As always, the sandwich was pretty good packed with ham and roasted pork, pickles, cheese and mustard (both had no mayo). I would've liked for more fries in the box, but I had enough for both servings. La Pena Horeb came through once again. You know I'll be ordering takeout from here down the road. Till next time :)

I am obsessed! This place is hands down better than any other restaurant on the peninsula and south side.

Our waiter Ronald was friendly and helped with recommendations. We went with the appetizer sampler that included beef empanadas, tostones, chicharones de pollo and one other delicious item that I forgot the name of. We added morcilla (blood sausage) and yuca fries to the appetizer round. Both were very good. We enjoyed the whole red snapper, churrasco mofongo, and bacalao guisado mofongo. All were excellent but we found the dishes with the mofongo to be our favorites. We ended with flan, tres leches cake, and platanos maduros. All three were great, the platanos were piping hot and high quality! Somewhat surprised that they didn't have coffee available but all in all, a great experience!

Unprofessional and Discriminatory Treatment by Bartender Juan…read moreI came here with two of my friends (gay), and we all ordered the same drink, a pitcher of sangria that we shared equally. Out of nowhere, the bartender, Juan, decided to cut off only my two friends, even though we all drank the exact same amount. He told me I was fine to keep drinking, but refused to serve them and asked us to leave. The way he singled out my friends felt unfair, inconsistent, and discriminatory. They weren't acting drunk, disrespectful, or causing any issues. We were all just enjoying our time. Instead of explaining anything professionally, Juan handled the situation with attitude and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. This is not how customers should be treated, and it definitely ruined our experience. We won't be returning, and I hope management addresses this seriously.

We started off with the Pastel wrapped in banana leaves, Alcapurrias and relleno de papas. I give the pastel a 4.5 out of five. The relleno de papas a 4 out of five and the Alcapurrias a 3 out of 5. Keep in mind I am comparing this to my mother's home cooking. The pastel was almost perfect. The meat as seasoned very well but not as tender as what my mother used to make. The masa was perfect! The relleno de papas was seasoned very differently than what I am accustomed to but still very yummy. The Alcapurrias were lacking in flavor. My son ordered the Bistec Encebollado with Rice and beans and he was so happy that this dish was very close to our family recipe. My daughter in law ordered the Pernil sandwich which she absolutely loved. My son tasted it and said it was the best he'd ever eaten! My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich which he said had a Puerto Rican flair to it. Puerto Rican Pernil is much different than Cuban Roast Pork which is what he is used to as we live in Miami, FL I only had the appetizers as I was not too hungry to begin with but I was able to taste everything and this restaurant is being added to my favorites list! I will be coming here every time I visit my family. The service was quick and very friendly!

I truly mean every state including Hawaii and Alaska. There is no place I felt so connected to the gastronomy flavors of the island like Chino Criollo. A true gem. There is more to the menu than I expected. I got the pork chop combo and my wife mofongo con carne frita. Huge portions, amazing flavor, I went back in time to the #7 menu in my hometown Chinese restaurant. You have to try it to believe it. Wish Chino Criollo the best. Keep it up. It was my first time having mofongo,…read moreso it was hard for me to tell if I just don't like mofongo or if I don't like how they make it. I ordered beef with broccoli, and the portion was huge. I had enough leftovers for a second dinner. The rice and fries were very plain - could use more veggies and salt respectively. The main dish itself wasn't a standout but hit the spot. My girlfriend, on the other hand, did not like her garlic chicken. The garlic taste was absolutely overwhelming, and the sauce was very thick and creamy. Not exactly what either of us were expecting from Chinese garlic chicken. She tried her best, bless her heart, but only ate maybe 1/3 of her dish and did not care to save the rest for leftovers. I would encourage you to try Chino Criollo to support local businesses, but do be careful because you might not end up getting what you expect.
