Jalapeño something good
Tracy M.

This place is a gem! The place is small but the food and drinks are delicious! There was only one server and she was sweet and on top of all of the tables and device was quick. Prices were to be expected with a great happy hour. Home made flan was probably one of the best I've ever had. Huge Carmel taste. Would highly recommend this place.

Cute little authentic Mexican food spot on Cary ! The staff were friendly and quick with the service. They had good options for vegetarians and you can always ask for no meat ! Def a spot I will be returning to !

The food and service was amazing. Our server was very sweet and punctual and kept checking up on us to make sure everything was great. My Birria Tacos were the best i've ever had.. so tender and juicy, I want to keep coming back just for them!! Definitely a 10/10.

Quick and refreshing Mexican food with flavor. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially for the area. The food is fresh and service efficient. The ambiance is urban Hispanic with pleasant music and seasonal decor.

Carnitas and Carne Asada tacos

I'm on a taco hunt so I ordered the carnitas and carne asada. The dinner is 3 tacos with rice and beans. They allow you to get one taco a different meat (I wish they sold individual tacos so I could've tried the Al pastor). The meat was pretty seasoned but I felt the carnitas were a little dry but still good. Now they have had the best corn shell I've had in my search. The shell had a little charred and a slight crisp. The service was nice and the staff was friendly. Shoutout to Stephany for being very attentive. The restaurant is not a large restaurant but colorful with a minimal decor. I will be back to try other things especially the drinks.

The birria tacos here are delicious! Compared to other restaurants, especially for a Carytown location, the price was very affordable and fair to the customer. The service was awesome, and was a cozy break from the winter air.

Irma the owner, food and drink is Amazing. Lot of tequilas and Mescal collection. We came for dinner and try almost all the tequilas, Highly recommended for Tequilas and mexican styles food!

Can't go wrong with Mexican and this spot doesn't fail. went in during happy hour and they have a nice menu. I had light lunch that day but could have ate for hours. the chicken taco was amazing simple but so flavorful. If you can eat it plain it's good but try the chips and queso with a margarita. Perfect location too, I'm going back!

Average Tacos Mexicanos

The food was ok. I came here with friends and everyone rated food as ok. The salsa and chips are free, but it's not very good. I got taco Mexicanos and the food is definitely missing something. The seasoning could be better, maybe missing sauce, definitely missing cilantro. I had to ask for extra cilantro since my taco don't have much of it. And in the end, they charged us a dollar for cilantro. Service was good though, but food isn't good enough for me to return.

My sister, wife, and friends stopped by Jalapeños for a quick bite while in Carytown. I had high hopes in relation to the high ratings of the restaurant but overall it was just a fair meal. The service was nice and quick and I enjoyed the enchiladas verde and refried beans. The rice could have had a bit more seasoning. My wife asked for some extra cilantro so we were unexpectedly charge for the extra couple pinches of herb. The table gave mixed reviews on their food so 3 stars seemed to be a fair rating overall.

Small Chips and Salsa

This is my second or third time visiting and they've made some improvements since I was here last, now they have nice booths. The food was good, they have a few vegetarian items on the menu. The salsa that comes with the chips is good tasting, but it was really thin, just tomato sauce and chunks of onion. It's never been too crowded, despite being in Carytown.

They have a variety of glassware on hand in different sizes, so it's easy to create your own flight or to just pour a full pint. I had never visited a similar establishment in the past, so I had about 20 questions on how to operate everything. Here's the rundown: 1) Walk up to the cashier and give them your credit card. They will swipe it, give it back, and provide a card to access the taps. 2) Check the TV screen for the full digital listing of their available taps, or walk right up to the taps and read each individually. You can click on the beer name for a full description, including style, price per ounce, and abv. 3) Pick a glass, place the access card in the little slot, be sure you're on the main screen, and then pull the tap handle that corresponds to the beer. Each screen has two, with the taps beneath. Hold your glass at a 45-degree angle unless you're pouring cider, in which case it doesn't really matter. 4) Take your card, pick a seat or stand, and drink your beer. Repeat. 5) When you're ready to leave, walk back up to the cashier, choose your method of payment (I chose to just leave it on the same card...easy), select a tip, sign, and you're good to go. I tried six samples during my time there -- all about 3-4 ounces or less -- and paid $12 pre-tip. This is an excellent place to try a variety of beers. I imagine most names are recognizable...they carry stuff from Ardent and Isley, among other local and regional spots, but others aren't the easiest to find, such as Funky Buddha. RVA Draft Room is in the same open-format building as Zzaam, a tea place I forget the name of, and Sweet & Sassy BBQ. It's also centrally situated in Carytown. I didn't like the seating...I found it really uncomfortable. I think they need to invest in purse hooks and perhaps some stools with backs. I had to keep standing up to avoid hurting my back. Beyond the subpar seating, everything else was nice, and I think it's cool that they offer free tasting events as well. I'm sure I'll return at some point!

If you are looking for casual food options but also want a drink... this is probably your spot…read more There is Zzaam where you can get Korean food and then Sweet and Saucy if you want BBQ.... there is also a drink/dessert spot Kokee Tea where you can get bubble tea, or ice cream in a puffle cone. Basically you can sit at any of the spots each little restaurant gives you a number if you ordered anything and they deliver to your table. If you want beer you will need to see the attendant and get a card so you can self serve yourself beer, cider or wine. Supposedly they cap you at 64 oz but as long as you are not wasted of anything they say they can override it if you get to that point. As far as the spot goes.... it's very family friendly. Though I wish it was bigger than what it is. I also don't get why a lot of beer places are going for bar chairs and table tops instead of regular height tables and chairs. That would be my only complaint not the most comfortable. Though where the food options are there are normal tables and chairs but limited. Plus if you get there around noon half the tables are difficult to sit at due to the incredible sun that comes through... it would probably be better if they get some blinds. The draft room has games you can rent it seems like since the attendant oversees it. We brought our own since we weren't sure if they had anything to occupy our three and a half year old. As both my husband are beer, wine and cider drinkers you would think this would be heaven.... but we were both kind of disappointed with the selection. We drink just about all beer, wine and cider but we felt like the selection kind of lacked. Just to give you an idea of our favorite RVA breweries/cideries.... Strangeways, Hardywood, The Answer, Busky are probably our top places. I feel like if you are expecting something like any of the four I mentioned you may come out pretty disappointed. Though because of the food options and how it's casual, both my husband and I said we would be back since it's pretty family friendly. It's nice that it's not just one food truck option like most breweries or no options for food. So if you are hungry and are wanting to do some tastings definitely check it out. On another note... parking is kind of a pain since it's in Carytown... definitely stinks in the winter. My bet is when it gets nicer, traffic will really pick up since it looks like they have some nice outdoor seating!

This confused us a bit, and is included here as a logistics heads up. With that said, it was after our server brought the food that we knew this place was special. My partner ordered one of the tortas. He loved it, and it hit the spot exactly as he had hoped (he gave me a bite, it was perfect)! I ordered the tacos de birria & consomé. They were the type of good that makes you fall into the moment. They are really a must have, and I recommend everyone try them. I was so excited when they arrived that I forgot to take a picture. Fortunately, I had some of the consomé to capture.

As a soup lover I'm always looking for a good cup of soup that is fresh and homemade tasting, and in all the times I've driven down Robinson I didn't know this was there! Not only did I find great soup, I also learned that they make their own sausages as well. I went with the bratwurst as it's usually a favorite of mine. It was delicious, juicy, and so flavorful. The roll was nicely toasted, the sauerkraut had great flavor and I love that they served it with a whole grain mustard. With the soup I also added a 1/2 cheese panini, which was crispy on the outside and loaded with a very creamy cheese, though I forgot to ask which cheese they use. Maybe Brie? Usually I just drink water but I was offered a fruity San pellegrino drink which sounded refreshing. The gentlemen who helped us was very friendly and explained all the different offerings. The food came out quickly which is always nice. If you like an alcoholic beverage with your meal they had a nice list of beers and other offerings. I definitely want to come back and share a sausage and cheese board with some friends so I can try a few more different options. Great little spot for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner!
