It was packed, but our server still made sure we were taken care of and made some excellent recommendations. The special of the day had a risotto that was to die for, and the pear salad was a hit. We ordered the milhojas for dessert, and although it was good, we were disappointed that it wasn't like the traditional dessert. Next time, we'll order the basque. Great date night spot!
La Boca offers Spanish dishes like Tapas and shared meals like Paella. They also offer selection of wine as well. The restaurant itself is on a smaller side, so if you are planning for a meal with a bigger group, you probably should plan ahead. Even for a late lunch on a weekday, the place was already half filled up. So, I can imagine that on weekends/dinner, you probably want to make a reservation! Personally, I liked that there was many different things to pick. But, I felt the food was a little bit hit or miss. I liked the eggplant tapas, but thought the duck meatballs were ok. I was excited to try the seafood paella, but I think what turned me off a bit was just how oily the paella was. Overall, nice staff, but I don't know if I plan to go back anytime soon unless someone else in my party wants to check it out (note: YMMV, I don't really drink, so it being a wine bar..I don't really benefit from their wine selection!.
The food at La Boca was great (for the most part). The paella was delicious, but took almost 45 minutes to come out. I understand paella doesn't come out quickly, but the wait here was excessive (in my opinion). The soup was pretty bland, which was surprising (wouldn't order that again). I wanted to get a cocktail, but I had to drive a few hours right after this meal so I wasn't able to. I would probably visit again if I lived closer to try other items.
This is my favorite restaurant in Santa Fe. Had a wonderful dinner there while listening to live music. The staff is very helpful in making tapas and wine suggestions. I would highly recommend this place whether you go to their afternoon venue or main dining room at night. For the main dining room I would recommend you make reservations but not required for the afternoon venue.
Spanish tapas at the Plaza. Our friend (local) suggested La Boca for dinner on our last night visiting, boy, were we impressed! Delicious cocktails and tasty plates, we ordered and way too much. Tonight's stand outs were the Gambas al Ajillo, NM Flat Iron Steak with the caramel sauce, and the Albondigas. I recommend the Spanish favorite cocktails, Mediterranean Gin & Tonic and either of the Sangrias. Restaurant vibe is busy and entertainment scheduled almost every day. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed the cozy feel and our waitress was an asset to the owners! She acted like one Food was great, Id stay away feom the sherry tastings veey exspensive and very small pours, very small. The highlight was the cherry cheesecake desert. We literally talked about it for several days. We definately go again!
We had a great New Year's Eve dinner here. The service was great and it was packed! We tried a lot of different dishes though the pintxos were probably my favorite. Everything was great and I would order any of it again. The carrots were my boyfriend's favorite.
If we could rate it a 6, we would! Outstanding - a must visit for a Santa Fe trip. By all means hit Santa Fe's wonderful Mexican restaurants but don't short change yourself by skipping La Boca! Quiet and cute little restaurant just off the square. We've seen many reviews mentioning poor service but in our two visits it was absolutely spot on. To be clear, this is a restaurant that intends and desires for you to leisurely enjoy a high quality meal so the service is not rushed but absolutely appropriate and responsive. The Grilled Pear Salad and the Olives and almonds as well as the baguette and garlic butter were a wonderful flavorful start. We then enjoyed the flat iron steak and potatoes. Each bite was well seasoned and an enjoyable adventure. Worse part of the meal was when it was over!
I lived in Spain and can safely say this is some of the best Spanish food I have had in the US. The food is authentic with the cooking technique and flavors. The service was lovely and ambiance is very tapas vibe. Small area. The croqueta is the best I would eat those all day with the best mixture of ham and cheese. Eggplant with the capers and cheese was well done. Shrimp was fantastic and just what I expected. The chicharrones are alright I wouldn't get them again. Another amazing dish was the pixtones with Serrano manchego tomato and chile. Please order that. No bravas and tortilla was very disappointing though. I really wanted bravas as they are so typical in Spain but done differently at each tapas bar
good for tapas and pallella. Meal needed more fish. Tapas were unique and all others were satisfied. My daughter tried the sherry flight. Waitress very informative.
Excellent food and service. We sat in their Taverna dining room in the back and they had a live musician starting at 7pm. His music was not too loud though I was not a fan of his tip jar hustle. Yes it can get pricey if you're big eaters and drinkers but it's such a nice evening. Everything was delicious and our server was excellent. They bring out one thing at a time since the tables are very small. The bathroom always has a line as it's used for both restaurants. We will definitely come here any time we are in the area.
Okay I have a bougie taste palette and it's difficult because I've also been to Spain.. Ambiance: very quaint, loved the guitarist who played live music he was very very good. Food: we ordered Chicharrones, egg plant special, herb butter and olive oil, artichoke, paella, jamon de croquette, the carrots. The food is small so don't come here starving. We o ordered 2 bottle of wines and for 4 ppl I think because we didn't come as hungry it was great Highly recommend
"Never Been To Spain".. Well, I've never been to Spain But I kinda like the music Say the ladies are insane there And they sure know how to use it.. They don't abuse it Never gonna lose it I can't refuse it.. We settled into La Boca for an early lunch.. We sat at a nice two top in our own secluded bubble..:) We were entertained and educated w. a Flight of Sherry Wines... All different , but so smooth and nice. We accompanied this w. an "Asparagus Tapas" & an "Eggplant Tapas". Both wickedly flavourful. We then, The Lass sipped, The Lad slurped on a Glass of "Manzanilla Sherry" to accompany a plate of "Shrimp Paella". This dish was a romantic delishee bite. Nice how Spanish Sherrys work so beautifully, to better enjoy this cuisine. A wonderful Father's Day treat..:) A worthy dining spot in this City Different..:) In Santa Fe, not Spain What does it matter? What does it matter when.. La Boca is here to feed you..:) Best, Avram Tredognite Jr.

I am so glad that I gave La Boca a second chance because our most recent visit was spectacular! Everything from the service we received (shout out to Jose) to the spectacular food were on point. We even got the thumbs up from the parents who were trying to compare the food to what they had in Madrid. When ordering, I would highly recommend getting the paella classica for 2 for 2-4 people and a tapa per person. We did that with 4 people and the amount of food was perfect! In terms of the tapas, the manchego frito and the gambas al ajillo were my favorite. Amazing flavor! Definitely add some red wine to go with the tapas and the paella. I can't wait to go back and order more amazing tapas and paella when I am back in the area. Thank you staff for making our experience awesome again! read more

Highly recommend. We came during Happy Hour and were able to take advantage of the happy hour pricing. Oh we splurged. Started with strawberry salad and grilled artichoke. Then moved on to the paella. Enjoyed a few glasses of wine and ended the dinner with pot de creme chocolate cake and the dessert tapas. What a treat read more

Such an awesome place. This was actually a recommendation from an employee in a shoe store we went to. Food was awesome. I'm a lover of tapas - and they were all delicious. Service was friendly and attentive and espresso martinis were on point. read more
We wanted tapas after a long day of walk around the Plaza in Santa Fe and visited La Boca for lunch. The restaurant was busy and small. Our table was very close to the one next to us which made the experience feel less intimate. On top of that, it was a bit warm inside. The service was ok and the food was mediocre. The meatballs needed more flavor and the kale and mushroom soup was mediocre. We both liked the artichokes but they were ver citrusy so might not be everyone's cup of tea. read more
OMG - TDF! We had a reservation, arrived a few minutes early and sat at the bar...we had such great service and fun there we decided to forfeit our table and eat there with ??? I am spacing her name, but she is from Mexico and absolutely lovely. My friend and I shared the jambon croquettes, tomato bread, asparagus with chevron and the veggie paella. Holy crow! All DELISH!!! I will definitely return on my next visit to Santa Fe! read more

Saturday ~ May 12th We enjoyed our first visit here, and overall it was an enjoyable experience once you made it past the hostess* La Boca reminded us of our times wandering through Spain, and Portugal together. Service was terrific ... ever present, yet gracefully unobtrusive and pleasant. Each course was a delight, including my wife's spritzer cocktail and my enjoyable bottle of red ($48). My favorite was the charcuterie for two ($24) ... a delightfully prepared composition of unique flavors arranged nicely and presented traditionally. Overall - a nice experience for $200 * upon arrival for our 5pm reservation, our hostess greeting / interaction was impersonal, and borderline rude. The hostess reminded us three times she needed the "table turned" in 1.5 hours. All without eye contact and accompanied by misplaced pretentiousness, which she neither earned or deserved on her fourth day of employment. I personally don't enjoy the "parent to child" tone from a twenty something hostess, who's neither poised, respectful or capable. Especially while grumbling about just coming from her "other job" ... . read more

Best paella I've ever had--even better than in Spain! The pinchos were amazing, the churro ice cream was unforgettable, and even the cider impressed. Staff were kind, courteous, and attentive, making the whole experience outstanding. Ambiance was fantastic as well, personable and cozy. A must-visit in Santa Fe. read more

I went to La Boca tapas restaurant with two family members to celebrate a birthday last evening. Charming isn't how I normally describe taking a meal at a restaurant, but that is the word that best describes our experience there. When I called to say we'd be 10 minutes late for our reservation, the pleasant woman who answered the phone basically said it was no problem and for us to drive safely. Sweet. Our server was Sawyer and he just had the best countanence and was really great about describing the menu. The restaurant appears to be known for its sherry selections. We asked for and received a lesson from Sawyer in Sherry 101 that was informative and spot on. We enjoyed our food. Unfortunately, we had had a late lunch and couldn't finish our meals. One in our group ordered the paella for one. Definitely good but couldn't say it was the best he'd ever had. Two of us shared the Tabla Mixta (charcuterie board) with meats, cheeses, olives, pickled veggies, and toast. Very tasty. We also ordered Patatas Bravas (potatoes) which were delicious with the two sauces. And my favorite was the Gambas al Ajillo, shrimp in a sauce that was good for dipping the extra baguette we ordered. I guess my only suggestion would be to translate everything on the menu, rather than just some things. I will be looking up items to see what I'll want to order next time. Looking l forward to another visit. read more

Restaurant was great and definitely will return. The ambiance was cozy and lighting was perfect. It had an authentic feel to it and we enjoyed eating and listening to the guitar player. The music compliments the atmosphere which compliments with food and wine. Food and dessert was tasty and full of flavor. Great Spanish restaurant in downtown Santa Fe. I ordered the Paella Classica for One ($25), which was high quality with the classic flavorful saffron rice and seafood plus chicken and chorizo. Just a few minor points for improvement: the rice could have been a bit creamier, the chorizo was a bit too salty, and the chicken was average in quality (not that flavorful). We also got two tapas: Grilled Eggplant ($16) and Chicharrones de Andaluz ($14). The eggplant was impressive - the melted manchego cheese on top was really tasty and the saffron honey added a unique and delicious sweetness to the grilled eggplant. The chicharrones (fried pork belly) was fried really well so that it was crispy on the outside and not too fatty like pork belly sometimes can be, but also soft on the inside and easy to chew. The cumin flavor went well with the pork belly. For dessert, we got the Gateau Basque ($12), which was really good - the vanilla bean cream tart was delicious with a nice crust with the tasty cream inside. The brandied cherries added some sweetness to the otherwise creamy dessert (creme fraiche on top added to the yummy creaminess). The prices are all typical for a nice Spanish restaurant like this but don't break the bank. The restaurant was filled on a Sunday night - we had a reservation, but still had to wait a couple min to get a table. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the service speed is decent. There is a nice, clean, and elegant decor inside with nice large food-themed photos on the walls and a nice bar area. Overall, I would give La Boca 4.5 stars if I could for a great selection of Spanish tapas and entrees in a nice environment and convenient location. read more
The highlight of our trip to Santa Fe! This is a tiny tapas restaurant in the heart of the city that proves big flavor comes in small packages. I wish we had had more room to try more menu items. However, the patatas bravas with 2 sauces, flat iron steak with 2 sauces and mushroom bruschetta topped with a fried egg were all to die for. The aji shrimp/gambas were good but I would probably try something else next time (maybe the jamon croquettes) since they didn't knock my socks off like the rest of the food. The staff was lovely and I received a great wine recommendation since I don't know much about old world reds. The Dejesa tempranillo was the perfect pairing for me and the hubs got La Boca's version of an old fashioned with apple brandy cask finished whiskey - delish! As our one fancy night out while in the area, La Boca did not let us down! Thank you for a wonderful experience. read more

We stumbled on La Boca & now we've fallen in love. We entered the Marcy St entrance & were greeted promptly, & chose to sit at the bar side (separate entrance), though nervous when we were told there was live music. Not to worry! Lovely strumming of classic flamenco guitar. service was exceptional, managers filled wine glasses while wait staff were friendly & had great recommendations & worked beautifully together. beautiful Spanish wine list is not to be missed, outstanding albariños! GAMBAS AL AJILLO (shrimp, SO good! sauce has a perfect little kick. ALCACHOFAS (grilled artichoke) were beautiful & a great lite bite. Favorite dish was SEARED YELLOWFIN TUNA, which is a masterpiece. The waiter loved BOQUERONES (anchovies on toast, see pic!) so we gave it a try & were super surprised at how much we enjoyed it. Like Spain & NYC deli in one. The anchovies were so FRESH, highly recommend trying it even if you think you don't like anchovies, it's wildly different. read more
We checked in for our reservation at La Boca after an event nearby. We were an hour early for out reservation, but no problem, we were seated right away. We started with a lavender collins and a bottle of Naveran Cava. The cocktail was delicious, the sparkling wine was divine! All food dishes were super, including the manchego frito, sardine toasts, shrimp with ajillo chilis, seared yellowfin tuna, mussels and artichoke hearts. Tapas for all, and all we're over the top delicious! If forced to identify favorites, the sardine toasts, shrimp and mussels stole the show! A dessert plate of gateau basque, a cheesecake-like dessert in crust topped with whipped cream and sour cherries. Very nice live music as well! An amazing dinner! Shout out to our waiter Matteo, he was great! Attentive but unobtrusive. Thanks Matteo, great job! Highly recommend La Boca, you gotta get there, it's great!!! Pics explain it all... read more

This place was top notch! I stopped by for a solo lunch in between conference sessions. I love Spanish tapas so I wanted to try this place out before I left Santa Fe. The locale is small but there wasn't a rush so they were able to seat me right away. I had their lunch special which included a soup or salad, a sandwich and a slice of chocolate cake. Alllllll of it was so tasty! The mushroom soup was creamy and had an understated kick. The sandwich was very flavorful and the meat was tender. The cake was so tasty that I didn't get a chance to picture it. Also ordered the patatas bravas as aioli sauce is my favorite food. They were not my fave part of the meal because the potatoes had a sort of paprika taste to them that made them smoky and, to me, it overshadowed the tastes of the traditional snack. However, I recognize that this restaurant puts it on spin on some of the traditional Spanish tapas. While I wouldn't order those again, I'd love to come back if I'm in the area. read more

Omg the paella. I've never had a more flavorful vegan dish. We were sat immediately despite not having a reservation (a welcome relief after being told the Shed had a 3 hour wait at 5:00 when they were supposed to be just opening). The hostess and server were both nice, and everything we ordered was delicious. My only regret is that I couldn't eat more. The interior was clean and modern and cozy. The coat racks were a very nice touch. read more

Lovely restaurant close to the Plaza. Lots of great options on the menu, even for lunch. We ordered the paella, chicharrones de andaluz, and a sandwich. Portion size is generous even for tapas, and the other reviews are correct that the one-person serving of the paella is probably enough for sharing. Don't forget to leave some room for the dessert! We went there as soon as they opened, so service was fast. Our waitress is super helpful in recommending items on the menu. Highly recommend if you wanna get a variety of the food when in Santa Fe! read more
One year, and I still love this restaurant. For one, They have updated their wine list by the glass, a significant plus. Second, their outdoor patio has a vibe. Lastly, their food and service were quality. We ordered the cave-aged manchego and the paella for one. It was just perfect for us. read more

Clearly a five in my book. Having missed this place in prior trips I won't make that mistake ever again. Yes the Marcy Street dining is tiny and crowded--and can be loud. But that is only because everyone is enjoying themselves as the food, drink, and wine are constantly coming from the bar and kitchen. We noticed that many on a busy Friday night were choosing from the solid list of Spanish wines. We were tempted to join in but glad we went for the gin and tonics and then the house version of an Old Fashioned. Blown away! The best I have ever had? Close to it. We went tapas all the way, starting with a great and great value tabla mixta. Loved the cheeses, the spicy veggie relish, the Serrano ham. Then we went the croquetas de jamon--OMG, so tasty and perfectly fried. The sautéed shrimp were next--with the excellent local baked baguette so not to leave any of the red chili and garlic sauce behind. By now we we reeling a bit but thought one more: the fried shrimp with red chili dripping sauce. wow that one had so many perfectly prepared shrimp we were overwhelmed but stuck to the task until done. What a night! read more

I wasn't a fan of tapas before I ate here, but LA Boca won me over! The cheese board alone was heaven, especially with the house made brandies cherries (seasonal). It was so good I couldn't photograph it before it was eaten! The filet is succulent, croquettes delectable, tuna mild, vegetables sublime. Literally ever did we ordered was exceptionally flavorful. And the chocolate mousse! Just a block from the plaza and one of the best meals you'll have in Santa Fe! read more
