Probably 3.5 stars. Lively restaurant, friendly hostess, great wine list. Squid ink pasta was a standout - fantastic flavor and a lightness and springyness to the noodles. The burger was solid also, with high quality sharp cheddar. I liked the slight crunch of onions in the patty. The fish of the day - grouper with a green olive pesto inspired sauce was wonderful. The octopus appetizer was a huge miss - not enough octopus, and way too much rice, mayo, and sweet sauce. It was Japanese takoyaki meets Mediterranean octopus but the result was too "street food" at an upscale price. Service was rushed. Seemed like maybe they were understaffed for the night? I ordered my glass of wine and the server rushed off before my husband could decide on his beer. He rattled off the two specials without mentioning the prices (a little annoying). We asked what were the standout or favorite entrees and he responded with the 3 most expensive options. I'm not worried about the price, but I'm always skeptical if the favorite dishes are always the priciest ones. read more

What an amazing explosion of flavors! My spouse started with a smoky Negroni that was one of the best cocktails she has ever had. I had a glass of the tapestry Casera mix. Moderate body but very flavorful. We decided to try several of the appetizers including the Hamachi crudite, tuna tartar and miso roasted vegetables. Each dish had its own flavor profile that was absolutely out of this world. We segued to the grilled grouper in a burre Blanc sauce - and then had to order bread to soak up the awesome sauce! The fish was incredibly flaky, moist and flavor We ended the evening with a coconut Panna cotta. Our server, Taden, gave us excellent recommendations, was attentive and a pleasure. Showed up at Horno at 6:15 on a Friday with a party of 5. Unfortunately, my aunt made our reservation in error for the day prior. The hostesses let us know they did reach out but the number didn't go through (was wrong in their system). Both hosts were super polite & friendly. They were able to accommodate us. This place is small and they seemed to have reservations the entire evening but they still managed to get us in! We ended up not waiting the entire 45 minutes and were seated at a table for 4, comfortably. We didn't mind squishing in as they did let us know before hand it was for a 4 top. Our server was so lovely and super attentive! She told us the specials, and let us know about the ordering process (everything ordered at once, coursed for us). We started with the focaccia, which comes with olive tapenade & goat cheese. I would die for the olive tapenade recipe! It was SO good. I couldn't stop eating it. Our table also got the octopus, which I did not try, but it had rave reviews from everyone else. We ordered their burger, sea bass special, bolognese, and cocktails in addition to our apps! For dessert, we opted for the blueberry lemon tart, and creme brûlée. So good! I was so full by the time we got to desserts but had to have a few extra bites. Why would anyone not give this delightful and friendly restaurant less than 5 stars ?? I mean, the food that I ate was incredible. Maybe I just ordered the right stuff. Ok. So Tuna Tartare ~ AWESOME! Emilio was so incredibly helpful in explaining what I was actually eating "So it's served with a black pepper risotto cake with a tuna that is mixed with Dijon mustard placed on top of the risotto cake and drizzled with a warm anchovy butter and a little basil oil! The Hanger Steak entree BLEW ME AWAY ! I would give this place 4.5 stars! We came here based on the reviews and the creative menu items. We had the focaccia, which was yummy!! It was a very generous portion. Probably enough for a party of 6 who want to have a little bread with some delicious toppings. We also had the hamachi, which was amazing! And the mixed greens salad was really fresh with a lovely dressing. For entrees we had the dumplings with shrimp added. The dumplings were ok but the rest of the dish was really delicious. I would have taken more bok choy and more chili oil! The burger was also really good (as were the fries). Also very, very big. We did not finish our entrees because they were so generously portioned. We could not (and glad we did not!) forgo dessert so we tried the chocolate tahini tarte. You must have this if you like chocolate!! Laurie, our server, was so wonderful! We had a decent first experience at Horno. Sat at the bar. which was a bit of a mixed bag. The setup's a little awkward on the nearest end of the bar closest to the front door, with staff constantly moving in and out of the kitchen and picking up drinks right next to you, plus the angled cut of the bar makes it hard to sit straight on. That said, the bartender was fantastic she was super attentive, walked us through the menu, answered all our questions, and even made some great suggestions based on what we liked. The food was delicious. We really enjoyed the vegetable dumplings, tuna tartare, and focaccia all full of flavor and beautifully presented. The ambiance was lively and upbeat, so definitely good vibes overall. I think our slightly off experience was more about where we sat than anything else. Hey all ! Went to this restaurant since it was recommended by some locals! Unfortunately we didn't take photos this time... I guess we were too hungry. It can be tough to find a dinner reservation in Santa Fe on a Saturday night, but our group of four lucked out after an online search and found Horno (or "Orno," since the H is silent in Spanish.) Although this is quite close to the Plaza this is *not* New Mexican cuisine, so if that's what youre after, keep looking. I'd describe Horno's menu as an eclectic mix of American and European cuisines. We all agreed the standout dishes of the night were the grilled hanger steak and the elk and pork bolognese. Desserts were all great as well. Interesting cocktail menu if you're after an adult menu. Even the starters are a good size. Entrees run in the $20-30 range: not bad for Santa Fe. read more

What a great restaurant. From the service and I mean from the hostess, manager, waiter, servers, and busboy, to the setting, to the food. Amanda was our waiter and dang if she wasn't knowledgeable about the menu. Very attentive and nice as can be. Ask for Amanda when you go. As others have said the focaccia is to die for. It would have been great with just the red pepper olive oil that it comes with, but I would add the goat cheese and the olive tapenade as well. You get three large pieces BTW. The tuna tartare on a risotto cake was one of the best starters I've ever had. Even if you don't like raw fish, I bet you would like this. Honestly, you can't even tell that it's raw. My wife and I are not huge eaters so we split the chicken thigh dish, which comes with two thighs. They split it in the kitchen and put it on two different plates without a complaint. My wife had gone to the restroom and Amanda came over and said where did she go?! Your chicken is ready! She said this humorously of course. The food was ready to go and they could've put it on our plate, but the server waited until my wife got back and just after she sat down and got settled. They brought the food out. I don't know if I've ever been to a restaurant that would care that much about serving the food. Anyway, I thought that was a great touch. The seating is very nice as they set the tables far enough apart from each other that you're not bumping into other patrons. Came here with a group of 16 people and we got a private table in the main room. Good: - Overall the variety of food was really good and the meatball appetizer was super good it came with really grilled bread and a really tasty sauce. - The vegetable dumplings had a really savory and sweet sauce that I enjoyed greatly - The main dish was great but not my favorite compared to the appetizers and the other things that they offered since it was a lot of steak and some of it just was super dry. What a wonderful gem we found at the last minute! We skipped an event due to the crowd being too loud and me wanting way better food. So on the fly, my husband finds the place and we waited forever for the uber driver but it was worthwhile. The food was on point, the service was excellent and the ambiance is perfect. We got the Horno Focaccia with the whipped goat cheese, smoked chicken wings, grilled pork belly tostadas for starters. The whipped goats cheese was delicious but the bread seemed over toasted. The chicken wing flavor wasn't exciting. It tasted like it was just missing another part to the flavor. I enjoyed the tostadas. For the entree I got Leo's smack down burger and my husband got the grilled hanger steak. My burger was fine but wasn't very flavorful. The hanger steak seemed over cooked and again not flavorful. A visit to Santa Fe should probably include a delicious meal at Horno Restaurant on West Marcy St. I went there because of the amazing reviews and my dinner did not disappoint. I found myself dining alone since my travel companion took ill. I called up to make a reservation on a busy Friday night. The friendly owner found me a seat at the bar. It may have arguably been one of the best seats in the house. The bar and kitchen were bustling. They were fun to watch. The restaurant has a pretty, clean and modern decor. The staff is very welcoming and attentive. I ordered the Pollo Mattone. It's a half chicken prepared to perfection with polenta, mushrooms and broccolini. It was enormous, too, for a petite person like me. As I was resting to see if I could find room for a salad, the bar staff convinced me to try dessert. I had the Banana Parfait. It was awesome. I almost finished it. The drinks looked great. Since I walked over from the hotel and was traveling alone, I opted to go with a Hibiscus Spritzer mock tail which was wonderful and refreshing. Lovely place for eats although a bit pricey. The beet salad fresh but incredibly spicy- we were told afterwards someone was too liberal with the cayenne that usually accompanied the nut cluster. The octopus was tender and well charred. The squid ink pasta came with nice lobster and crab sauce. The pork chop was a favorite- a generous serving and tasty spaetzle and red cabbage accompaniment. The tuna tartare was a surprise, less acidic than expected and came on a sizeable fancy hash brown. The golden beet salad with dill vinaigrette, pumpkin granola and tofu feta was delicious. The tofu feta was crumbled small and delicious, the beets and pumpkin granola were yummy and the whole salad was fresh and delicious. The warm bread with olive oil and balsamic dip was another favorite. We also got the dumplings in coconut broth (similar to Thai tom kha). I liked the broth more than the dumplings. We LOVED the vegan dessert: a chocolate tart with almond based caramel and aquafaba meringues on the side. The crust wasn't our favorite part but we loved the dessert regardless. Great spot!! I definitely recommend checking it out--one of the best restaurants in the plaza for sure. It has a solid simple ambiance. We sat in the room with the open wine cellar which was cool. The service was also pretty good. The lavender lemonade was refreshing, and the sugar rim was a nice touch. The burrata itself in the burrata bruschetta dish was underwhelming. Not much inner filling, so it mostly felt like a mozzarella. The surrounding arugula salad, however, was actually so delicious lol. I got the hangar steak as my entree, and it was fantastic. Cooked perfectly, and the sauce was super rich&savory. I would definitely order this again. The only thing was that these fruit flies kept flying around the steak and getting stuck in the sauce. Hubby wanted to try something different from Mexican and American food for dinner. So we decided to try French and chose this highly rated restaurant. The friendly hostess was very welcoming & sat us despite us not having a reservation but we were given 1hr 15mins since they have a reservation for that table at 7:45pm. I thought it was so sweet of them instead of just chasing us away but informed us ahead of time so we're aware. The restaurant has a very relaxing classy ambiance. It seems very popular among both locals & tourists, but we stood out as the only Asians there. We ordered hanger steak and squid ink pasta. The hanger steak was so tender, juicy and well flavored. The cognac sauce was amazing, perfectly paired with the steak. I love the colorful presentation of the squid ink pasta but it was so sour! I think the chef went too heavy on the lemon sauce! Our waitress (a tall lady with black frame glasses) was friendly at first contact but we realized she was pretty discriminating towards us throughout the night. She never introduced today's specials, she never refilled our water, she never came to our table to check on us, like she did with other tables! She'll walk past our tables several times but only focus on other tables around us but ignored us. Never felt so neglected! Even when we were ready to get the check, we waved many times but she never looked our way! We had to get the bus-boy to go get our waitress for us! I was ready to try their dessert, but she never asked if we were interested to order dessert after we finished our meal. She just handed an our check. I didn't like that my pasta tasted so sour with overdosed of lemon. I sat there waiting for her to come by but she never did. I had to wave down our waitress several times. When she finally came by, I told her about the pasta and all she said was "that's weird!" ‍ I didn't know how to respond to her comment. So I asked if I can get more cognac sauce so I can eat my pasta with the sauce since she didn't offer to make a new one or allow me to order something else. It's always a pleasant surprise to visit a restaurant and find that every item you order is consistently delicious (not just the signature or trendy ones). We came here for a nice dinner one night and really enjoyed everything! I was especially impressed by the pork chop, as pork chops are frequently over cooked in my experience, but the one we had here was cooked perfectly and well balanced in seasoning. Street parking can be a bit tricky on a weekend but worth the trouble. Definitely plan to return for small group dinners in the future. First let me start off by saying that the food here is amazing! We started off with the miso vegetables, which my boyfriend and I split and I'm regretting having split them with him because they were so good. I legit debated putting in a second order lol. The veggies that come in this dish are zucchini, eggplant, and mushrooms and it's topped off with mint, basil, and a piñon vinaigrette. I don't even like mushrooms but they were super delish in this dish. We wanted to order a light dinner so we went with salads and all of their salads sounded amazing, it was hard to choose. I went with the roasted beet salad because the dill vinaigrette and tofu feta sounded really good...and it was! The salad was fresh and had an amazing flavor. I wish though, for $13, the portion was slightly larger. All in all though, it was a delicious fresh salad and I would order it again. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was packed and they were on a wait, which is usually a really good sign! They were able to, however, sit us at this little counter by the host stand that I guess it part of the bar. The bartender was responsible for serving us and she forgot about us on numerous occasions. When it came time to cash out, we waited over 20 minutes just for the check to come. This would have been a total 5 star dining experience if the service wasn't mediocre. The lack of service shouldn't deter you from this place though because the food is SO GOOD.
