I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner. The restaurant is small and moody inside, which makes the atmosphere feel much more private. The service was nice, and our waitress checked on us throughout the meal and cleared the table between courses. The food was phenomenal. I ordered the Penne Al Forno, and it was a wonderful baked pasta dish with a ton for the serving size. I was told they were planning to change their menu the following week, so I'm not sure if it's still available, but I'm very glad I got to try it. I found this place via IG. I came here wanting to like it so bad. I could tell it's locally owned and needs local business. I want to start by saying the service is GREAT. We loved our server. She was very kind and perfectly attentive. The food is the reason for the stars. The marinara sauce tastes store bought. It tastes like something out of a jar, extremely disappointing. We ordered 3 dishes. Linguine Frutti Di Mare, Prosciutto & Burrata, and the Lasagna Classico. The linguini is full of seafood, which for the most part tasted fresh. Came here during the flop festival and they were so nice! With all of the foot traffic going on, there were so welcoming to me and my husband. We came mostly for drinks as there were so many food trucks around. We got an Aperol spritz, espresso martini, bottomless mimosas and garlic knots. Swung through here to meet a friend for a drink and a nosh. It was a Sunday evening and the weather was perfect. I was so happy that we got a table outside. We ordered a bottle of wine, meatballs and garlic knots. If you see my pictures, you'll see that I almost forgot that the phone eats first! We have been going to La Bella Luna for almost 15 years now. While it has been slowly going down hill, we have finally hit the point where we will NEVER go again. The latest blow is their new menu, where you cannot get a kids menu item. You must pay $22!! for a bowl of buttered penne (that is the exact same size as the old kids size). If the noodles were amazing, then maybe that would be ok, but they were chewy, cold, and my kids both gagged after their first bite. Additionally, the Stromboli has gotten smaller and on our last visit, they lost our order and we had to wait additional time for the mistake... with no offer for a compensation. Never. Again. We went for Valentine's Day and the vibes were nice with ambient lighting. However, even with our reservations we were placed in the back corner of the restaurant and were forced to sit side by side and face the sax player who was like 2 feet from our table. We are giving them some grace because of the holiday but the service was slow and they messed up my order and then just tossed some pesto on the dish to fix it. The server seated us in a very comfy booth. After ordering drinks my friend had to return his Diet Coke because it tasted terrible for a Sprite. I got Chicken Parmesan which was ok. We had a reservation for Friday night, which I definitely recommend because the place started filling up pretty quickly. We started off with the Mozzarella in Carrozza as an appetizer. For our main dishes, we had the Pappardelle Bolognese and the Spaghetti Pomodoro. You really can't go wrong with a classic meat sauce. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still tasty and we both enjoyed our meals. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu, and that was a definite win. The staff was super attentive and made us feel right at home. I also noticed they have a to-go window, and a few people stopped by to grab pizzas, which is good to know if you're looking for something quick. I ordered a vegan pizzas which is very simple, just red sauce, mushrooms, artichokes, and black olives. And I repeated to the server in 2 separate occasions that I wanted to make sure it was vegan, just no cheese. When the food gets here there is cheese on the pizza. It's extremely frustrating because the reason I don't order cheese, is not because I don't like the flavor, it's because I don't want to support an industry that exploits pregnant ensavled cows. After visiting the first Friday event, we stopped in for some dinner. The restaurant was not very busy and we were able to be seated at a table inside. We started with the bruschetta, which was tasty. I especially liked the flavor of the bread that was used. For entrees, we split the pepperoni pizza and the chicken parmigiana. The pizza had lots of cheese and the baby pepperonis, which are my favorite. The chicken parmigiana had a flavorful breading and a decent portion of food.the red sauce had a great taste. There were 2 reasons for the 3 star review. While the food was delicious, it was overshadowed by the lack of service. There were extreme long waits between getting menus, ordering, receiving food, and trying to ask for the check and to-go boxes. We asked 3x to different servers before receiving boxes. La Bella Luna is a pleasant and quiet Italian restaurant (at least for 1 PM on a Sunday) on the Baldwin Park strip, hosting a variety of delicious pasta options and a sweet atmosphere that makes it perfect for a date night. Our server Andres was exceptional and offered insight into menu offerings, as well as making sure that everything was just right for our lunch. We could tell the restaurant was clean on initial entry, and the staff were kind across the board. Dining room was also clean and has beautiful lighting. Perfect music choice making it easy to have a conversation. Though we didn't order any drinks other than water, their menu has plenty of offerings that can be paired nicely with your chosen dish. The Mozzerella In Carroza was delicious, perfectly fried and easily shareable for two (3 pcs.). My wife ordered the Canneloni Con Fico & Spinache off the specials menu, whereas I ordered the Penne Allá Vodka (Lunch portion). At first we were worried that the portions looked small, but they were so hearty and rich that we felt full after finishing our respective dishes. The figs were a nice sweet addition to the spinach and cream sauce of the Canneloni. The Penne Allá Vodka was creamy and prepared me nicely for an afternoon nap. Tiramisu rounded out our meal, perfect delectable and light dessert offering. For pricing, you will be looking at around 30-50 a person (20-30 dollars entree, 10-20 drink offering, not including appetizer and dessert). Impromptu decision to 'pop in' and was pleasantly surprised. The interior really has two atmospheres: pizza parlor to the right and fine dining restaurant to the left (mood lighting and all). Ordered meatball appetizers and did not like them. Was gonna take off a star But when Andres found out I didn't like them (kinda mushy and liquid soaked and not really tasting like ground meat), he offered to bring another appetizer (I opted for another order of mozzarella) soooooo they earned back that one star! The chicken parm was a super generous portion which fed two people. Sauce was delectable and chicken was tender white meat well cooked and seasoned. The Pomodoro was magnificent. I originally intended to only eat half (trying to cut down on starch and really should not have chosen an Italian restaurant) but it was sooooooo good that I couldn't resist and stuffed myself with the entire dish. It had the best sauce with tender strips of grilled chicken breast with what tasted like homemade spaghetti (but I doubt if it was). Nothing was overly salty and that was up high on my list. We have frequently enjoyed dining in or taking out from Bella Luna. I don't want to take that history away from them. But our most recent take out will probably be our last encounter. I ordered a pizza online and my husband (returning home from out of town) was going to pick it up. There was some confusion about what I 'thought' I ordered and what was made. No problem; THAT is not the primary issue in this short story. When I opened it up at home, it had a puddle of water in the middle of the 18"', from all the mushrooms primarily in the center of the pie. As I padded it dry and tried to replace cheese on the rest of the pie ( drawn to the middle because of the water), my husband called to speak with the manager, expecting nothing but knowing certainly the manager would want to know for quality control. The manager wasn't available to speak and texted the next morning. His responses prioritized the order mix up, without addressing our real issue nor taking responsibility. My husband just left it alone at the point; why continue? I assure you if we'd been dining there, the manager would have probably made time for us and possibly (?) replaced our drainage ditch of a pizza. What's left in the photo is what's left of what we tried and tossed. Please Bella Luna, the next time pay attention, don't be obtuse, listen to the customer and take some responsibility. I ordered the tricolor salad ($13) with salmon ($10). It came with a double portion of salmon. But it was dry. The salad underneath was perfect. The last straw - we could not order a single slice of pizza so we had to order a $19 pepperoni pizza for my daughter - but the dough was raw. I did not notice this until my daughter ate her first slice. I ate her crust and went for some more - then realized I'd better not as it might make me sick. They removed the pizza from my bill. This is one my go-to spots in Baldwin Park! I love coming here for a consistently nice pasta meal. The outdoor seating right on New Broad Street gives you a great view of Baldwin Park's charming downtown area. Firstly, the rolls! They are always warm with just a little garlic - they come with balsamic and olive oil for dipping, and I inhale a few each time I'm here. The bruschetta and caprese are both nice and light appetizer choices, and the meatballs are hot and fresh as well. One of my all-time favorite pasta dishes is here! It's a simple fettuccine aglio e olio - olive oil with lots of garlic and red pepper flakes. So simple but light and delicious! I added chicken on this particular visit, but you can also add shrimp. A group of us came here recently to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Since it was my first time here, I went with my usual favorite, chicken parmigiana. My boyfriend chose ravioli. Others in our group chose chicken parm also along with chicken marsala and carbonara. There was complimentary bread for the table which is always nice. The wait for the meals was a little long, but we were a party of six so it's understandable. All of the food looked amazing when it arrived and fortunately tasted great as well. I enjoyed my chicken parm; the sauce was tasty and the chicken was tender. Everything tasted fresh and yummy. If you love topping your meals with Parmesan, just ask for a little extra because our Parmesan loving group needed more than what was brought initially haha.
