Pesto pasta
Colette S.

Little Italian restaurant in a shopping plaza. Cozy atmosphere inside. We started with the Detroit style pizza. The crust was nice and crispy and the pizza overall was tasty- the sauce was on the sweet side which I don't prefer but otherwise decent pie. The pesto pasta comes with Burrata on top which adds a creaminess to the dish. I'm extremely picky about my pesto but this was good. The eggplant was good. The salmon was also a nice dish. All and all a decent meal - my kids really enjoyed.

Made a reservation for Sunday dinner at 5:15 for 3 and the hostess sat us right away. We got the short rib, table side pasta with shrimp and the hot honey pep pizza. Everything was so flavorful and the portions were big. The restaurant has plenty of seating with booths or regular chairs to accommodate for larger parties. Our server was friendly and attentive. It was worth the 30 minute drive for me.

This place is amazing! I feel like it's such a hidden gem for top tier Italian food. It's your classic dishes but with a sophisticated twist. The salmon dish and short rib risotto is so good and can't be missed. We've also had their ratatouille appetizer which was incredible. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often! 10/10 would recommend.

Wow! I absolutely loved the food I ordered. My main course was the short ribs. It was so flavorful and tender. Our server Damaira was attentive and professional. The ambiance was cute. I loved the colorful chairs and decor. Highly recommend.

Seafood Linguine
Leah L.

My partner and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. It's located in a strip mall next to a Walmart, very unsuspecting. We didn't have to wait for a table, which was nice. We ordered two entrees and shared them- Seafood Linguine and Cheese Wheel Pasta. (We requested they skip the Table Side Show the Cheese Wheel Pasta comes with, and they complied.) It was a little bit of a wait for our entrees to come out, but OMG was it worth the wait! Both of the dishes were delicious, and switching back and forth between the two had us savoring every bite. The seafood in the linguine was all cooked perfectly. The seafood bisque sauce truly is lightly spicy and so savory. That dish is heavenly. The cheese wheel sauce was rich and creamy. The pasta in both dishes was cooked to perfection. I wouldn't order the Cheese Wheel Pasta again unless I was sharing entrees. The overall flavor of the dish isn't quite dimensional enough to keep my interest. You can add protein to it, but it's only pasta and cheese sauce. No vegetables or additional herbs/spices, which I'm sure is to let the cheese wheel sauce really shine. The service was good. We were checked on an appropriate amount of times and our beverages were kept full. The food was absolutely worth the wait. My only 2 concerns were the small children that were squealing and running circles around the tables, and it was warm inside. By the time the food arrived, I was quite uncomfortable from the heat. Overall, my partner and I can't wait to come back and try other dishes. We were both eyeing other entrees on the menu and we saw pizzas at other tables that looked really good!

Caesar salad

Tratto is located in the old Mangia location in the same shopping plaza as the Walmart Neighborhood Market and despite it being opened for awhile now (about eleven months I believe our server said), this was the first time that I tried here. Walking in, I definitely thought the ambiance was warm and inviting. Our server was friendly, though they could use a bit of fine tuning on service. A great for-instance is that my brother-in-law's and my entrees were brought out and there was a very noticeable lag in bringing out everyone else's meals. I had the lasagna and started with a caesar salad. Both were good, though I would not say great. Still, again, the food was good Another discouraging thing that we all commented on is that the menu is pretty limited. All in all, Tratto is a good addition to the culinary scene of east Orlando. I will give it four stars.

We went to Tratto for a friends birthday and had a great experience! We were a little confused why our friend chose a restaurant so far from her house but we soon learned why! When we got there we were a little surprised by how quaint it was inside, it's very unassuming. They only serve beer and wine which was a tad disappointing but their bottles of wine are very reasonably priced so we got a bottle to share. Our server was a little slow to greet us and could have checked in a little more frequently but it wasn't a big deal. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, garlic rolls, calamari and the carpaccio. The garlic rolls were a little overpriced in my opinion, 3 rolls for $14 is a little steep to me. Especially when you can get a whole bowl of calamari for only $4 more. Speaking of the calamari, the rings were huge, cooked perfectly, not chewy at all and the pepeprs were a nice little treat! The carpaccio was beautiful with balsamic pearls on top. For entrees a few people at our table got the short rib risotto, I got a Detroit style pizza, other dishes were lasagna and the burrata with pesto. Our entrees came out staggered, with 2/3 of it coming out at once. It took at least 10 minutes or more for everyone to get their food which was a little frustrating. After about 5 minutes we just told everyone to eat instead of waiting because peoples food was getting cold. They were more than halfway done eating by the time all of us had food in front of us. Even though that happened we were all still very happy with our meals. The short rib risotto was DIVINE! I have never had meat that rich before, it was so wonderful and the risotto had such great flavor! That dish is spectacular! The lasagna was the size of a newborn baby, it was a huge serving on the plate and the pizza was a little oily but still very good! Even with a couple little speed bumps our experience was great! I now understand why my friend wanted to travel almost an hour to eat at Tratto!

Risotto (short rib)
Matt R.

Ordered the short rib. Super lean and a great portion. $32 isn't bad for something where you don't have to drive 35 min in traffic somewhere else if you're in the area and this may be the better Italian restaurant in all of east Orlando. The risotto was very well balanced and the short rib was lean and soft. A generous portion of a plate as well. Service was fantastic he was very attentive and made good recommendations. The restaurant was particularly cold and for being located in a shopping plaza they seem to be trying their best. Ordered the Panna Cotta for dessert it was just ok but the Classic Tiramasu looked MUCH better. Will certainly re-visit and looking for the ratatouille next time as well.

Detroit style pizza

Great dinner spot. A must try. We went on Sunday afternoon before the Celtics/Magic game. Very nice inside and we had a cozy half circle booth. We started with the bruschetta and it was awesome. Perfect combo of sweet and savory. Plus the presentation was beautiful. We shared a Detroit style pepperoni pizza and the crust was amazing. Best of this style we've found in central Florida. Also shared Alicia Graciela (or something like that) with pancetta and pasta. Again, amazing. Service was excellent. We will surely be back.

Lasagna

Located in a not-so-well-known area in Avalon, Tratto is a small restaurant catering to the local population. If you live in or are visiting Avalon and want to enjoy Italian comfort food at a reasonable price, Tratto is a good option ("good"--not great, not bad-- hence my rating 3 star rating), with the caveats below. For mains, each one of us ordered a different dish. Our table looked amazing! I went with the beef carpaccio after seeing photos--it was a beautiful dish! The portion was generous and came with plenty of arugula, mushrooms, and very thinly sliced mozzarella on top. It ended up being my entrée. I tried the lasagna (it was quite salty and heavy, though a massive portion with a decent amount of meat) and the spaghetti with pesto and burrata (very good!). For dessert, we ordered tiramisu (which was very good, one of the best choices of the night) and panna cotta (which was more like a flavorless flan with guava syrup at the bottom, not a real panna cotta; this one deserved 1 star). The service was a bit slow, and they automatically added a 20% gratuity to our bill because we were a party of seven. I found that unreasonable...

This was probably our 6th time back since the last review and it's still amazing. Tratto has continued to hold on to the same standard of greatness in both the delicious food & excellent service. The calamari is still the best I've had. The garlic bread is top-tier. Try it with the ratatouille. I have now tried every one of the risotto on the menu. They are all rich & unctuous but my very favorite is the scallops & risotto. My husband up until today has always ordered & loved the picatta salmon. It is a scrumptious, perfectly cooked salmon with picatta sauce. Today, we ordered the pizza! OMG! Detroit style spicy pepperoni is an experience! The pepperoni is perfectly crunchy and drizzled with hot honey. The outer crust is friccoed with crunchy cheese. It's amazing. The new dessert is a pistachio cheesecake! Run to try this! It's a symphony of different textures & flavors. Crunchy/creamy & salty/sweet! Yum! The service is always excellent. The restaurant is pretty & unpretentious. Do yourself a favor and visit Tratto!

Ratatouille with burrata cheese

Tratto is truly a gem! Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. The ratatouille with burrata cheese was one of the best I've ever had. Every dish was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service made the experience even better. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu!

The Review: Parents were in the mood for Italian, wanting to try somewhere different we settled on Papa Lozzi. I appreciate their being open for lunch! The interior was had a relatively intimate feeling setting and had a classy bar - though the massive empty area in the back was kind of odd. Not sure if they were remodeling or if it's used for something else but I'd recommend perhaps putting up a curtain wall or something as it detracted from the experience if you were seated near the back. Our server (Brandon I believe was his name) was very attentive and catered to substitution requests (like adding a side of pasta, and adding cheese and pepper to the bread dipping sauce) with ease. The bread was nice and crunchy, and the dipping oil pairing was a nice and classic touch. I love soup and was hoping for some Italian wedding but the soup of the day I understand changes and this visit was Stracciatella. I've never had it before (it was described as "Italian egg drop") and it was a nice light soup. Personally I'm a fan of stock, but I would certainly be open to ordering it again. The strange (and amusing?) thing was the decision to use large table spoons for the soup cups. It took up about half the size! An interesting choice. For the main entree I decided upon puttanesca. They weren't kidding around with the chili flakes and it was a bit spicy for my taste but the overall balance of the olives, anchovies, all blended together perfectly and created a lovely flavor profile for the sauce. I definitely would recommend! Another in our group got lasagna and I'm not sure what it was but the sauce was incredibly bland. Perhaps some salt and pepper? Garlic? Not positive but it was not a dish I'd recommend. I still cannot tell if they did or did not claim to make their own pasta (read mixed info, including on menu). It did not taste homemade so there was that to be aware of in case anyone is hopeful for that crafted taste but it was cooked perfectly. Overall, it's nice to see a local Italian restaurant in the area. While some items shined and others were disappointing, I do think it's worth giving them a visit if you're in the mood for an independent restaurant experience. (Oh and a note - they offer 10% discount for cash purchases.)

The website was very sluggish and wouldn't process our order, so we had to call to get it processed. I ordered chicken parmigiana and a Caesar salad. The chicken parmigiana was prepared in the most unusual way, it was put between 2 pieces of pita instead of on top of pasta. I didn't want the pita, so I had to pick it off which wasn't easy as all the cheese had stuck to it. As a result it was very dry with very little sauce, it tasted good, but not what I wanted. The pesto penne was really good, salad was fine. We also got a caprese salad, but the cheese was too salty and the balsamic had a muted flavor. Disappointed with this experience unfortunately.

The items felt a bit on the higher side for what you get, so that's something to keep in mind if you plan to visit. Would I come back? Maybe but overall, it was still a great experience.

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more First and foremost, this review is a collective of both my visit during the Yelp Week at four different Portillo's locations, mine being at Waterford Lakes, and my initial visit as a regular customer afterwards. Ergo, I will utilize the details for the Yelp Week that easily transfer to a regular visit, plus anything new I got through my second visit. For starters, this Portillo's is in a fantastic spot. If you haven't been to Waterford Lakes, it is a beautiful outdoor stripmall with many stores that are actually worth your time going into, not just store after store of clothing... though they do have some good options like Ross and Kohl's (latter is a "I believe it is there," but I know Ross is there). Upon coming up to Portillo's, you can tell it is that brand new genre of restaurant that is in-between fast food and fast casual. I don't even think it has a name yet. But if you've eaten at the new design for Chick-fil-a or at a Raising Cane's, you know it. Inside, Portillo's really leans on its Chicago roots with 1960s to 1970s silver trailer restaurant vibes, modernly updated. Imagine how those dive diners in the 60s and 70s were but with more technology, neon, and self-service commodities. For me, I have plenty of food here. Portillo's is known for their hot dogs so I had their jumbo chili cheese dog and Char-Grilled Maxwell Street Polish Sausage. I also got their breaded whitefish sandwich, beef and cheddar croissant, and cup of chili on its own. I will say the food, across the board, were all good. I thoroughly enjoyed the breaded whitefish sandwich as they actually make it thoroughly well. There are many places that do fried fish sandwiches in which the fish has been sitting in the freezer for too long and haven't been cooked thoroughly through. Ever bitten into a fish fillet and it is still wet, and sometimes slimy, on the inside? As mentioned earlier, this review is based on two visits. The Yelp Week was dine-in in which the service was great, Katherine was trained well and kept her cool whenever an issue arrisen, and the ambiance just fit the experience. My second time was through the drive-thru. What a below average experience that was. I must stress the staff was kind, but the fact that I had to look at the menu on one side of the building, drive around to the other side and make my order could be debilitating for those who don't have good memories. I wouldn't mind it so much, but isn't that the basic setup of drive-thru? What really got to me was how long it took Portillo's to make my order of two hot dogs and two sandwiches. The total was exactly 18 minutes from order start to finish. Wouldn't have been an issue but I was the only one in the drive-thru line at the time, and this was around 2 p.m. so there weren't that many patrons inside either. At least my food was wrapped securely to make sure nothing falls apart or spills. Ultimately, I am going to give this Portillo's location three-out-of-five stars for its review. I can't just shake the tantamount time it took for my drive-thru order to be made during stretch of downtime while being the only vehicle in said drive-thru. All I know is that I could possibly remedy that time if I take the time to order online or actually come down and order indoors There seems to be emphasize treating the indoor customers over the drive-thru.

And the garlic knots... OMG. They were so good I ate way too many! The staff is amazing and very welcoming. Thiago provided excellent customer service and made our experience even better. The place is very clean, cozy, and comfortable. I also love that they have a patio, which makes it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your meal. One thing I absolutely loved is that the kids get dough to play with at the table while waiting for the food. It is such a thoughtful and fun touch that keeps them entertained and makes the whole experience more relaxed for families. It really shows how much the restaurant cares about creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. I will definitely be returning soon, especially for Bingo night on Mondays. I highly recommend!

We were visiting the area and wanted to try something that wasn't a usual chain restaurant, and…read morestumbled upon Pesaro's, a quick review of their menu and the fact they do pizza by the slice and we were locked in! It definitely had that Italian mom and pop shop style to it and the food was all fantastic. The marinara was fantastic, tasty and authentic. The prices were fair, and especially as the food was so good. I just wish we had got more of those knots because they were fantastic. Our server was really friendly, I can't remember his name but he was working on Saturday 18th Nov at lunchtime, he made sure we were looked after the whole time and gave some great recommendations. He was patient and helpful, especially as this was our first time and there's plenty on the menu.
