My friend took me to dinner here this past Sunday night. I loved the neighborhood and this restaurant sits on a street that slopes down, providing a really nice view of parts of Baltimore's skyline. The outside of the space was simple, and the inside was pleasantly decorated, but oddly configured. There is bar seating attached to the front window that faces outside, whoever sits there will have their back to the restaurant, which is weird. The bar took up a lot of space, yet tables jutted into the walkway, making us have to bob and weave our way to our table in the back. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server was great, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. He would appear as soon as I thought of him, which, well, who doesn't like that??? I had three glasses of excellent rosé. We split an appetizer of three empanadas. The beef one was really good, the other two were just ok. I went with spaghetti pesto and shrimp for my entree and ate every bite, so very tasty. Then we split flan for dessert - I wasn't too impressed. I really appreciated how they used simple herbs with olive oil as their dressing. It didn't detract from the flavor of the steak. The fries were fine - average thick-cut steak fries. I also got a bread basket with chimichurri. The bread was good but not my favorite. It tasted a bit like it was frozen previously but it was still tasty. Now about that chimichurri. Honestly, this was the star of the night. The BEST chimichurri in the city. So fresh and tasty. Do yourself a favor. if you have leftovers, get chimichurri to go with that. After seeing the Baltimore Sun article about La Barrita, my friends and I were excited to try this place out. In that article, the owner states, "If you come and eat steak like we do it, you will think you'd never had steak before." Now that wasn't quite true, but it was pretty darn good steak and overall a great meal. The place is small, cozy--it has good music that is not overwhelming and overall, the place feels hip. Definitely make reservations ahead of time. I've tried to stop by before and found the place (including the bar) packed. The day of, I called right when it opened and the only available reservation was at 9:30pm. My friends and I took it without hesitation. For appetizers, we shared the eggplant parmesan, the bruschetta, and the mushroom polenta. The mushroom polenta was my favorite: creamy, so packed with mushroom intensity. Bruschetta was fresh with arugula, tomato, and a creamy mozzarella. Best part was the crispy bread and the garlic oil drizzled on top. One friend and I split the ribeye while another friend got the short rib risotto. If you aren't feeling up for steak, the risotto is a fantastic choice: so hearty and delicious. While waiting for all our dishes, we could smell the char of the steaks that were being made for other tables. When the ribeye came, it was perfectly seasoned--even the sides of a salad and fries were perfect with each bite of steak. My only critique is that I wish there was a bit more chimicurri sauce. For dessert, we got the panqueques that I was surprisingly very impressed with. The place was pretty packed so we expected there to be a wait, but what we didn't expect was for the male host to be so arrogant and rude. We were informed that there was a 30 minute wait and he took my boyfriend's number down, but he wrote it on the bottom of the page underneath the table where he was writing all of the of patrons numbers. We waited 15 mins, watching people come and go until we decided to wait in the car. Long story short no call or text for a seat ever came so we ultimately went to Maximón instead where the hostess was much more accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious. The inside is decorated with a ton of Messi and Argentina decor..pretty cool. Other than that the bar/layout seems like your typical Baltimore restaurant interior. The servers and hosts were extremely nice, attentive, and willing to give their recommendations as it was our first time at the restaurant. They give you complimentary bread and olive oil with herbs to start..super good. We started with the polenta as an app. The sauce with chorizo was really good and savory. For our entrees we ordered the fettuccine with a mushroom cream sauce and the ribeye steak. The portions were large and worth the price. I cannot say enough good things about La Barrita. My first experience there having dinner with friends was last night, and I will be back on a regular basis. We sat down as a table of 5 outside. The servers were phenomenal and very attentive right off the bat. As we were discussing what wine to get, the owner Sebastian overheard us talking. We asked if he would recommend us some wines, and in turn, he ended up taking over our dining experience and serving us an extremely memorable dinner. We had a few bottles of delicious Argentinian Malbec wine, and then the appetizers came out. The polenta with mushrooms was unbelievably decadant, and will undoubtedly turn non-mushroom fans around. We also had the polenta with ragu, and two links of their homemade chorizo sausage. It was grilled to perfection and I can guarantee you've never tasted such a delicious sausage. The main courses were stunning. From the parrillada platter that came out with gorgeous, perfectly cooked cuts of meat, and the fresh short rib ragu with fettuccine, we were in for a treat. The grilled bone out short rib was so tender, I didn't know you could prepare such a notoriously tough cut of meat so tender on a grill. We obliterated the meat platter with smiles on our faces. We left the restaurant after toasting glasses of wine with Sebastian and Marcelo for a fantastic meal. I cannot be any more appreciative of how we were treated and how well they took care of us. Our server helped us with a salad - la barrita salad and were not disappointed! La barrita: Baby arugula, pears, pecorino, truffle honey and walnuts. The dressing was amazing and that truffle honey with pears and bites of shaved pecorino? WOW. Incredible salad. Yes, a salad. We moved on to the spinach empanadas, which came 2 to the order - perfect for two. Sebastian recommended we eat with our hands and we went all in. It was the flakiest empanada I've ever had, closer to a light pastry. Stuffed with spinach, bechemel and parm, it just melted in your mouth. They were served hot and I could have eaten two more! Next to come out, after a 10-15 minute gap (because they took the care to cook our steak PERFECTLY), our eggplant and rib eye. The gnocchi was pillowy and light with a flavorful sauce and chunks of eggplant. Again, just perfectly seasoned, beautifully plated and we couldn't stop eating it! The rib eye was a generous portion, with a delicious salad and crispy, thick fries! The steak was medium/medium rare and tender. I think it had a chimmichurri sauce on top. AMAZING!! I know this sounds silly too.. but the salad and fries? Not just a side, so good and the dressing was another keeper. First time I came here was on the way home from work and decided spontaneously to treat myself to bourbon and steak. The restaurant is located in the Butcher Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. A lovely young blond server, Suzanne, I think, secured a seat at the bar for me. The bartender Danny, gave me a warm welcome. The bourbon selection was regrettably unexceptional. The television airs European soccer matches. The spacing is a bit compact without being uncomfortable. Street parking is usually not a challenge. The menu is so accommodating. If you want a serious entree, they got you. On the other hand, if you want something less substantial but acceptably satisfying they have the most delectable empanadas. The appetizer I had, which I forget the name of, was a delicious combination of cheese, ricotta I think, and jam. It was so simple yet fun. It made me feel like a kid. The steak was picture perfect. Interestingly, I deducted a star because of the owner. Every black person on Yelp knows the look you sometimes receive when you step into an establishment and you don't have the phenotype of the typical patron. I could not peer into the owner's soul but I could not help but notice the discordance between his broad smile and affable pleasantries with other customers and the taciturn nod he gave me. It's disappointing because I read up on his background and knew we shared a connection to Brooklyn, NY and I have read books about Argentina and am quite eager and curious to visit the country and would have liked to hear directly from him about his experiences there and the dishes or restaurants he recommends. Had one for 8:45 tonight after we got there and confirmed that we had one with the host he dramatically turned around showing us how they filled their restaurant with walk-ins. The restaurant is gaming the system with reservations. If they don't get walk-ins they can fall back on the reservations if they do they can turn away those with reservations. We didn't want to make things difficult so we offered to sit at the bar. I immediately loved the vibe, and this would be a great place to stop in after work for drinks and bites with a friend. Definitely make a reservation if you'd like table seating! We didn't order any steak, so this review is mostly about the Italian food. We ordered drinks and split the fries, ricotta gnocchi, burrata salad, meatballs, and empanadas. Everything was delicious! The meatballs were cooked to perfection and were probably our favorite dish --I had to fight my boyfriend for the plate! The empanadas were also very good. Different from what some people might be used to, but very authentic and hearty. The burrata was *MUAH* so fresh and the vinaigrette tied the whole salad together beautifully. I also highly recommend the fries, as they were perfectly crisp and came in a hefty portion. The empanadas also came with a side of fries, which is a big plus! The only dish I didn't really care for was the ricotta gnocchi. While the gnocchi was nice and pillowy, overall the dish was very one-note for me and wasn't satisfying. Comes in a good-sized portion though! The service was okay. It took like 20 mins for the bartender to take our food order after drinks which is pretty ridiculous, but after that he was on top of it. Visited 08/18/2021 I have to give La Barrita 5 stars because my wife says their ribeye was as good as mine. After searching for a good 'rodizio' for our 1 night in Baltimore, we ended here at La Barrita. I've been to the 'big' one in the inner harbor, but it's just too much food... and a bit pricey. All we really wanted was a good steak and as the reviews attested to, we got it. A couple 16 ounce ribeyes, with seasoned fries and a nice bottle of merlot as we stared out the window to the neighborhood, capped off a day of driving and visiting newborn family members. (At a safe distance) The steaks were seasoned and done perfectly at our requested medium rare specification. Our waiter Roberto (I think that's right) was very friendly and accommodating when we asked to move to a window/barstool setup. If we come back to visit again... there's a good chance we'll be stopping here again. There's decent sized bar/stool space, but not a ton of tables, so reservations are recommended. read more

La Barrita is a quaint local restaurant but with an international flair. Upon entering you see strong Argentinian motifs especially around football. The food was superb as were the drinks. The la Barrita salad was simple but very tasty. The Pan burrata was delicious with the bread perfectly toasted. For entrees we had the beef steak of the house - Bife De Chorizo - that had a light but tasty sauce and fries that were ideally crispy. The fettuccine de bosque had a creamy mushroom sauce and the eggplant gnocchi was perfectly cooked. Often gnocchi can be mushy but these were great. Would recommend La Barrita highly. read more

In my Cardi B voice, pressed pressed. I have been stalking this restaurants Instagram page for quite some time. Finally got a chance to go this past Saturday evening. Housed in the Butcher's Hill section of town, La Barrita is a cute and cozy restaurant. The servers and owners are really attentive and patient, and willing to give suggestions about the menu. I only tried the pasta this go round, but food and presentation is phenomenal. Everything is cooked to perfection and you can really taste that the chef took their time preparing the food. I will definitely be returning with a few of my friends, because I really want to explore the menu more from the flatbreads, the salads and of course the steak. And when the weather breaks definitely would love to partake in the outdoor seating. If your in the Butcher's Hill section of town, make sure you stop in and try La Barrita, you won't be disappointed read more

So excited for the current iteration of this restaurant. Headed here on a recent Friday night to celebrate a birthday with friends. Unfortunately, I had only checked open table and in finding them absent, assumed they didn't take reservations. They do, and you should make one! They have very few tables and only 1-2 that seat more than 2 people, so they let us know they were booked for the night. We snagged a couple of seats at the bar and then waited like hawks to grab a third for our friend. We enjoyed some cocktails and rosé, then shared one of the bruschetta apps, garlic butter fries, the ribeye and the cannelloni. It was all SO good. I typically don't order bruschetta at restaurants because it's kind of basic and not that exciting, but load it up with some fresh burrata and I'm on board-it was anything but basic here! The garlic fries were good but smelled better than they tasted, they could have used an aioli of some sort to accompany. The ribeye was massive and delicious and served with a small undressed side of greens and a few fries (I think it should come with at least one substantial side for the price of $37). The cannelloni was also good but the texture wasn't my favorite-would definitely try a different pasta or maybe the gnocchi next time! I will definitely be back and hope it stays busy so that it will stay open! read more

Was very excited to try this new local spot and it did not disappoint! It was unexpectedly crowded for a Thursday, so I was happy to have made reservations. While it looks a little cramped at first glance, once you're sitting down it does not feel claustrophobic at all. The atmosphere was really nice, soft lighting and music without being too dark or loud. We got the bruschetta burrata as an appetizer and it was delicious. The cheese was creamy, the bread just crunchy enough, the plate was piled with fresh arugula and the balsamic glaze was the perfect topping (I actually forgot to take a picture because I was so excited to eat!). For our mains we both had a steak dish (Bife de Chorizo and Ojo de Bide), based on the reviews of the chimichurri sauce. Only complaint was that I could have used a little more! Steak was well seasoned and pleasantly charred on the outside while remaining tender on the inside. It cut easily and was really good. The place is a little expensive and this property has been under three different owners (at least) since we moved to this neighborhood 1.5 yrs ago, but hopefully this place can make it work! Would definitely recommend for a date night or nice drink. It would be nice to see a happy hour special and more appetizers to make it more accessible for neighbors to stop by for a quick drink/bite. read more
