We had an amazing experience here at La Barca! We ordered 3 FRESHLY MADE Jamaicas and 3 Birria de Chivo (goat birria) which came with rice, beans, and fresh masa tortillas. I loved the birria because it tasted like a beautiful savory, savory blend of flavors and the rice tasted like it was made with fresh tomato instead of canned, thank goodness. The service was impressively fast, attentive, and our waitresses were extremely kind and went above and beyond! Our menus were clean, the tableware were clean, the atmosphere was gorgeous, and the food was absolutely IMPECCABLE!!!! Everything came out to about $90 for 3 goat birrias, 3 Jamaicas drinks, and of course her well deserved tip. The service is horrible from the host to the waitress. No common sense in the personnel whatsoever. We didn't get any utensils, our waitress showed up twice in the time while we there. She didn't bother to attend us we had to flag other staff to get our utensils. We had asked to be seated at the bar and the host made us wait 20 minutes. The waitress had no clue on drinks or anything. We asked for a tostada and the food came before our drinks or utensils. We had to leave due to the horrible service. The restaurant was not even full. We went on a Saturday around 12 and it was busy. We waited around 15 minutes for a table which is reasonable for the day and time. We are really happy with the Carne Asada plate and the Carne Asada Burrito. We had lost hope in finding a good Mexican food restaurant but La Barca on Firestone gave us hope again. Darcy was a great server. She was busy so she could not come by often but we were happy with her service and personality. The other staff assisted with drinks, bringing food and taking empty plates. Costa Azul usually comes with rice, but i ordered beans. The shrimp covered in bacon were delicious. Beans tasty. Potato wedges good. Salad was a bit boring. Caldo de pescado was good but what you see on the picture is what you get. Add a couple of soft drinks and order of tortillas...$60 not including tip. Service was on the so so side. We are frequent diners at this restaurant. We went there Saturday evening, very busy. We were sat down and waited approximately 10 minutes for waiter. We ordered two margaritas and guacamole to start. The margaritas were spot on. We ordered food, my wife child's plate of red enchiladas and I a carna asada plate. I was very disappointed, rice and beans very cold, not even lukewarm. The steak was tasty and my wife said the enchiladas were good. Just walked out of La Barca on Firestone Blvd. Walked in and was promptly seated at a booth in the back. Looked over the menu a few times. No one came by to greet us or serve the usual chips and salsa to the table. I look around, and being a Monday afternoon place was not busy at all and no servers on the floor. Finally, a few servers walk over to a booth across from us to sing Happy Birthday. So I figure, finally someone will come ask what we'd like to drink but nope didn't happen. After almost 20 minutes, we decided to get up and leave. No one approached us. At the entrance the hostess didn't acknowledge us either. It's a real shame the service we received today because La Barca has always been my favorite Mexican restaurant. I will definitely not be coming back! My mom and I had lunch there and our bill came out to $91.44 plus tip. We also placed an order to go and when I got home the order was incomplete. I called the restaurant to let them know what had happened because it's not cheap to eat there. The young lady that answered the phone apologized. It was left at that but a bit later I received a message on my phone telling me that "I" had left the missing items on the table were I was eating!!! My order was missing the rice, beans, onion, and cilantro. Instead of owning their mistake they are lying and left me a message making it seem that it was my fault. I called back and the young lady apologized profusely. When I initially called I didn't ask for anything I just wanted them to be more aware of peoples orders. This restaurant has plenty of parking which is a big plus for Downey. The restaurant itself is beautiful. There is a lot of seating. However I will say it gets busy and service is slow , so don't come starving because things take a while to come out. The carne asada was phenomenal, and for that I would come again! Leaving a bad review! Visited the location in Downey today and the waiters are very sloppy. They were dropping dishes on the floor and instead of taking them to the back for a wash, they were serving the dirty plates to the people!!! Spoke to the manager on duty Angelita and she did not care. She stated that these kids are young and don't care. Well, as a manger, it is your job to fix that and properly train them. Worst experience ever when we came to this location to celebrate my dads b day. Waiter took our drink order and after our food order. It did take a good minute for the food to come out for a party of 10. That was the last time our server came to our table I had to get up 2 times to find him to ask for more drinks. Once we got our food my son had an incident where he began choking as we took care of that I looked around and all the servers were just standing around not once did the cone and ask if everything was ok or to help clean up the mess. Experience was the worst ever I asked one of the other servers for our bill and it still took her 30 min to bring it after I got up to ask the hostess for it again cause she was just standing around. The environment was nice with the mariachi playing unfortunately the service killed the vibe. When asked to speak to manager of course it turned out to be our server we didn't see all night according to him their service was really good. I then asked for a corporate number or general or regional manager and he said there was none just another manager for day shift. This used to be my go to place for Mexican breakfast. The last couple of times it has been terrible. The food has not been consistent. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's terrible. I guess it depends on who the cook is. They don't always follow their recipes. Some of the cooks obviously don't give a ff about what they're serving. I have been served burnt food (I'm talking black burnt), watery food, and bland food. I keep going back hoping to get the right cook but I'm done. No more La Barfa. read more

I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. Our group was initially told we couldn't be seated until our entire party arrived, which is fair enough. Once everyone showed up, I went to the counter to let them know and ask if we could be seated. The owner--who I can only describe as completely unprofessional--was rude from the start. He suggested seating us at a table meant for 5, despite our group being 10 people, which made no sense. When I asked for his name to leave a review, he completely lost it. He started yelling at our entire group, embarrassing us in front of other customers, and even threatened to call the police. This was beyond uncalled for, especially considering we've been regulars here in the past. It was humiliating and completely unacceptable. The server we originally had went on break so the new server was really slow and in attentive. The food was bland no flavor, we left all our food cause it just tasted bad. Wouldn't come back. We had to clear our dishes and glasses off our table by moving them to other tables and look for servers every time we wanted drinks or food.. They left us without attending service the 6 hours we were there.. So, when we wanted to order more food to go, they told us the kitchen was closed..
