Originally saw this place on Instagram thanks to Sandy Y. I had almost forgotten about this place until we happened to stumble upon it after eating L'as Du Fallafel. The eclairs here are pretty top notch. However, they are 5.5-6€ each to-go and 1€ more for dine-in. They have a variety of flavors from rich and decadent to light and fruity. We decided to go with the raspberry passion-fruit one. They use pretty high quality ingredients and you definitely get what you pay for. If these were cheaper, I'd be drowning my face in them. But hey it's definitely worth the try!!

All of their offerings for the day.

As soon as I stepped in the door, I was greeted and I felt so welcome! Maybe my French accent appears authentic because I was immediately greeted in French. I quickly had to ask, Parlez vous anglais?, and to my surprise, the cashier did! I ordered the pistachio, vanilla pecan, and chocolate. At €6 each, I was expecting to be blown away. Sadly, I was not as the flavor for each eclair was not there. All 3 tasted like a vanilla variation. While they were all beautifully decorated, for the price, I would have preferred a larger size and a more distinctive taste. Additionally, they do not travel well, so I recommend eating them in the cafe. While service by the staff was great and the eclairs are beautiful, for the price, I just don't think they are worth it. Ironically, there are quite a few bakeries nearby that sell traditional eclairs that are 4 times as big for only €2.50.

I have to admit, I was very, very excited to visit this place because of the rave reviews I had heard from friends/colleagues. And while the eclairs themselves looked delectable, we were greeted with a frustrated server, who was curt, and downright rude. We did not appreciate the looks we were given while we took a bit of time to decide (there were so many choices!) We probably have never seen so many eye-rolls or heard so many sighs within that short period of time. That aside, the pricey (but yummy) eclairs were reasonable. Looking back, I wish I hadn't spent so much time deciding, but this is a good example to show that looks can be deceiving! Just because the eclairs were beautiful did not mean that they had the same scrumptious taste. I have to admit that I was limited to choices secondary to my nut allergy, but all of the ones my husband tried were just average. Since the server was so "frustrated", I didn't get around to taking too many pictures because we honestly just wanted to get out of there. Oh well. Can't win them all.

Over priced & no wow-factor. They're SO pretty yet... They didn't stand out! Disappointed because I was so hopeful that they'll be good since it was about 6€ euros for 1 eclaire (or 12€ for 4 mini ones. I got this set). I tried the set of 4 and the best one were: 1. Salted carmel 2. Vanilla bean These two were perfectly sweet and flavored just right. Lemon something: mehh skip this one. Chocolate ganache: tastes like in just eating a piece of chocolate.

Quick drop spot convenient before a trip through la gare du nord. They obviously specialize in eclairs, but I opted for the almond croissant and an expresso. Delicious.

Been here before. When in Les Marais, an absolute must-visit to grab some delectables. Pricey, yes. But you're in Paris, not Southeast Asia. I believe four of these cost me 15 or so Euros. Just looking at them under the glass glimmering under that natural light will get you feeling a certain way.

Eclairs!

Sometimes after you gorge yourself on a giant sandwich from L'As du Falafel, you think to yourself "you know, I really could go for an eclair right now". Or at least, I think that because I'm a fatass who loves eclairs. These are not just any eclairs, mind you. This is Eclair ART. There are your classic flavors to be sure, but how about yuzu? Or fresh cherry? The presentation is beautiful - there's gold leaf and perfect icing. Because I'm a good person (not really), I took 2 to go - one for me, one for my traveling companion. I had the chocolate hazelnut and she had the salted caramel and we both agreed these were definitely the best eclairs we'd eaten, and quite possibly the best eclairs on earth. At €5+ each, it's an indulgence, but you're worth it.

L'eclair de Genie came highly recommended by a friend who loves sweet and was previously on a dessert walking tour in Paris. This particular store was found on a small street 10-15 minutes from the Norte Dame and Holy Chapel. The store itself was eye candy because each eclair was beautifully made. There is no in-store seating, so you can either purchase it and wolf it down in front of the store or take it to-go. I ordered the Passion Fruit eclair and loved it. It was perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. Also bought an eclair sampler back for the evening. Each eclair is approximately 5-6e each, whereas the sample box is 10e. Staff spoke English, and if you have trouble communicating, just point. Must stop if you are in the area.

These eclairs look really good, but taste very average. Given the price, I don't recommend them. Just go to a bakery and pick up a decent eclair for less than half the price.

There's a lesson within L'Éclair de Génie: beauty can strictly be on the outside. Imagine a beautiful human being with an average/boring personality, that's basically an eclair from this spot. The eclairs are beautiful and absolutely Instagram worthy but the taste didn't blow me away. I felt like I could get one of these in New York... there was some level of disappointment here. So here's the thing: come for the 'gram, go to Stohrer or Le Maurice for the flavor. Otherwise, it's not worth the price. Let's be real, you can get 750mL of wine for the euro equivalent of one of these pretty little things.

The most beautiful eclairs I have ever seen! Beautiful and oh so delicious! Out of all the ones I tried, my favorite was the passion fruit. Yum! They are a bit pricey though; I think they were about 6-7 euros a piece? We also bought the chocolate nuts and bon bons as souvenirs and they were a hit!

Wow!

So these are expensive. So is everything in Paris! You might as well spend your Euros on something delicious! My great-uncle dropped my mom and I off here in the Marais district because he wanted us to see where my grandmother grew up. It was raining, he could not find parking, and he and his girlfriend are in their 80s and just wanted to get home to their suburb outside of Paris. As anyone who has visited Paris should know - driving and parking are crazy and most people take public transit (metro, train, or bus). My mom and I wandered around the street where my grandmother lived before and during World War 2 and then turned to a side street only to see L'Eclair de Genie, a tiny place with tons of people swarming the window to peek inside. Inside were rows of beautifully colored and unusually flavored eclairs plus ice cream filled eclair pops! We waited in line and decided to buy 4 flavors to try over the next few days. I nearly passed out with excitement to see the special flavor of the summer is YUZU!!! We got a yuzu, hazel praline, vanilla pecan, and salted caramel. The weird thing is once your order going in line toward the door, then you go to line up for the cashier in the opposite direction in the back of the store. While in line I was standing by shelves of dessert sauces and saw yuzu caramel. I bought a jar of that too but have not tried it. The favorite for my mom was the vanilla pecan and mine was definitely the yuzu. This place is very unique and is worth trying out if you like eclairs!

The eclairs here are so frickin beautiful you're not going to be able to eat them. I just wanted to keep taking pictures, and even put one up on my souvenir shelf at home, but unfortunately, it would probably mold if I did that. They are too pretty to eat, but when you eat them, you'll be really glad because they are super tasty as well. Just a tad bit too sweet but you're in France so might as well indulge.

Cute and clean display of eclairs

Angelina, Paris, France -- April 12…read more Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 stopped here for lunch after visiting the Louvre, drawn in by its reputation for having the best hot chocolate in the world. We were looking for a place to relax and refuel, and the experience felt a bit mixed overall. Arrival and First Impressions The space is elegant with classic Parisian charm. The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. The Highlights The famous hot chocolate lived up to expectations, thick, rich, and almost more like a dessert than a drink. We also had French onion soup and an éclair, both of which were very good. The pastries were clearly well made and thoughtfully prepared. The kids had chicken tenders, which they enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit different from what they expected. The Challenges The biggest drawback was the price. The meal felt expensive for what we ordered, coming in at €154 for a fairly simple lunch. Service felt slightly rushed as they moved tables along quickly. Final Thoughts We would likely return if we were nearby and specifically craving the hot chocolate again. It is a classic Paris stop and worth trying once, but the value may not justify going out of your way unless that signature experience is high on your list.

It really tastes like melted chocolate with a bit of milk mixed in to make it more drinkable. We went at a bit of an off time, late morning and it wasn't overly busy. We saw our server once and I couldn't recall who he was when it came time to get the bill. I asked a hostess walking by for our check and she told me to ask our server while walking away. We were able to flag another server down eventually but the whole process just took too long. The tables for four have chairs that don't quite tuck in causing for a bit awkward seating. If you like really thick hot chocolate, give it a try but otherwise ok to miss this one. Plenty of good hot chocolate throughout the city.

I had just finished my time at the Eiffel tower and walked over to this restaurant for a drink and a snack. I was seated immediately, waiting for the rest of my party. The staff were incredibly patient, allowing me to stay for the fifteen-ish minutes it took for my family to arrive. We, of course, ordered the hot chocolate topped with cream. It was incredibly rich, which was the draw. It was required that we each ordered our own teapot, which provided about two and a half cups of hot chocolate. This was a bit excessive, as the drink was heavy and I could only stomach a cup. I did wish the restaurant allowed us to split the pot amongst our table. Nonetheless, I enjoy dining at Carette and returned on my second Paris trip with my husband. Anyone visiting for the first time should try their thick hot chocolate at least once.

The strawberry shaped dessert looked beautiful and was clearly made with a lot of care. Inside was a fresh strawberry puree that tasted good, but for 20 dollars it did not feel worth it. The outside had a slight crisp, while the inside was soft, gooey, and rich. Every bite tasted buttery and balanced, not overly sweet.
