Not the best pizza I've ever had, but certainly decent. I wish the egg on top of my pizza was runny, it seemed a bit overcooked. My friend said she actually enjoyed the pizza here than a lot of the pizza she has had in Italy! The service was a bit on the slower side, but that seems consistent for the area. Here is what we noticed: - When we arrived, it was a little hot, so we opted to sit indoors, not realizing that we would be sitting near the open windows by the outdoor smoking section so be aware. - The menu is quite expansive, with lots of homemade pastas and pizzas. There were a lot of other interesting dishes that we wish we could try, but we just didn't need more than a couple. - We ordered a bottle of white wine and the server brought out the wrong one (a red). Luckily, we noticed it before it was opened and he brought out something else since the one we ordered apparently wasn't available. It ended up being really good! - We ordered a dozen snails, and eventually he served us four of them, indicating that they were all out, but that we wouldn't be charged. That was too bad because they were delicious and we wish they had had more. - We ordered the Quattro Fromaggio Pizza and the Tortellini Scampi for both of us to share. They were both excellent! - Service was OK, but our server got less attentive as the place got more crowded. It took forever for us to get our check and pay at the end even though we asked a couple of times. Bottom line: La Gioconda hit the spot for our first night in Geneva. While the staff speaks French and decent English, they communicate between themselves in Italian, with a lot of incoming customers being Italian as well. They have a large selection of different pizzas, once again - all for a reasonable price, that are baked on a thin, chewy crust and with an abundance of toppings - basically the way pizza is supposed to be done. They also have an abundance of authentic appetizers while you are waiting for your pizza to arrive and serve you some bread. Overall a great experience! My personal favorite is the Napolitano ( Gruyere , Greek olives, capers and anchovies). They do several with egg also. It's a medium, tender but nice crust with a crunch to it, and the toppings are not over- kill... Just enough. It's done fast and hot. Take out or eat outside on tables, in 3 sizes . It's one of the few pizzas I can eat and eat all of it! Wish I could import them. They will deliver free for order of two or more but I'm guessing that doesn't apply overseas? It's our comfort meal when we've put in a long day and we never eat there less than twice a week when living at our apartment in St.Genis. You won't get better pizza anywhere.
