I had the croquettes of chicken and cheese for an appetizer and the grilled lamb for an entree with frites (fries) and a cappuccino to finish it off. We also had a bottle of Syrah with dinner. The food was completely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and the restaurant was very comfortable. My friends had soup for the appetizer and steak and fries. They said their food was also delicious. There are many places in Ath to dine, but if you have only one chance to choose then dine here, it is so completely worth it!

It has a kitchens for preparing the food, a central grill for certain dishes and mini grills that can be placed on your table for others. The cuisine is based around grilled meats, accompanied with a choice of baked potatoes or Frits and salads. The proprietor greeted us (he speaks English and French) and explained the choices for cooking the meals. We chose meals that are cooked at the table with the mini grills. I chose the beef plate which featured three types of beef in 100g portions each. My friend chose mixed grill plate which consisted of beef, lamb, chicken and ostrich. I chose a nice Pino Noir to go with the meal. I was driving so I passed on an after dinner whisky but I could have been quite content with the selection. Through my conversation with the proprietor I discovered that he built all the tables, bar, kitchen and grills himself. He is an avid skier and mountaineer. This is reflected in the decor which is tastefully put together. An interesting fact is that each table has a tag with the name of a historic expedition / explorer. If you aren't familiar with the name of your table, just ask and you will receive an interesting history lesson including some lesser known trivia about the expedition.

Such a shame ... In…read moreshort: good food, terrible waiters (for the most). We made a reservation long before (3 weeks?), but they couldn't find our reservation when we arrived. We got seated anyway. I immediately noticed they had quite some interesting beers and ordered an Achel Blond as appetizer. The waitress didn't understand me, and didn't know the beer either. I had to go over to the bar and point at the beer. I got the beer ... in the wrong glass ... and it was more than a year past expiration date. No biggy, I often drink old beers, but they should check their stock or warn their customers about the expiration date. The wine/water glasses we got had been in the dishwasher one too many times. At a certain point there was not a single waitress around to clean the tables or take orders. Hold on, there WAS a waitress, but she sat down chatting with some other customers. It took ages before our table was cleaned and before we could order something else. To be honest, there was one waiter (I think the owner) who was friendly, and came to check if everything was ok. When we finally got the check, the change was thrown onto the table. The waitress didn't even look at us. When we left I tried to make eye contact with anyone from the staff, but once again, it was as if we weren't there. Keep the chef, and change the waiters please.

The chefs are terrific in how they prepare the food, and the serving staff are very personable as they are attentive. Predominately, and understandably, French-speaking; a pleasant surprise is they also understand English to help tourists like myself to order their delicious food.
