The tasting menu definitely seemed like a meal for two people! The waitstaff was super kind and unbelievably friendly. I was traveling and exploring Tivoli on my own, so it was nice to have a welcoming waitstaff. Here are my thoughts of each menu item: Trionfo di mare: 4.5/5 - enjoyed the assortment of fish! One of them was super fishy, and some pieces weren't super tender, but still tasty overall Scialatielli con ragu di spigola e datterini: 4/5 - plenty of clams, and the sauce had a strong clam taste. Would be nice if the sauce had some flavors other than clam flavor (maybe some herbs would help) Turbante di spigola con verdura croccanti: 4/5 - beautiful presentation. Fish could be more tender. The crunchy vegetables pieces were so tasty Pastiera napoletana - 3.5/5 - not my favorite type of dessert (obviously prefer chocolate), but it had a nice, cold texture. Missing some flavor

For the 3 of us with 3 bottles of sparkling water, 3 pastas dishes, an starter and 2 coffees and desserts, the bill was $70 euros. Delicious and a great service. We made a reservation online, arrived about 20 minutes early, and they gladly sat us right down. While we were there we noticed plenty of locals eating, chatting with the servers in Italian, and having a blast, which is always a green flag. The menu leans traditional Roman; extensive, with plenty of pasta, meats, and fish. The supplì classico and the cacio e pepe one were both phenomenal. We also had the all'amatriciana and carbonara, and both were divine. After a week traveling through Europe, my husband said this was his favorite meal and restaurant of the trip. It was a top one for me too. We also ordered the oxtail; delicious, but I'm not sure I'd get it again since you get two pieces that are mostly bone. I know that's just how oxtail is, but I was expecting a little more. The panna cotta for dessert was a great choice too. Service was fine, nothing to write home about, but honestly I appreciated how rough around the edges it was. They kept it real; don't come expecting fancy restaurant service. This is a place you go to for authentic food and flavors. We sat outside on the sidewalk, great for people watching, though they had plenty of space inside and even multiple floors. Oh, and the house wine was delicious and a great deal. Our entire meal only came to €70, the cheapest dinner we had in Italy. Definitely try it if you're in Rome.

We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

If you're stuck in the office in Aurelia for days on end, and tend to mostly visit the city center for sightseeing to absorb history, a trip to Lido di Ostia for some different authenticity may be in order! Tired of typical Italian flare of pizzas, pastas, gnocchi and panini, I've been searching for fish high and low, some finds better than others, and Povero Pesce stands out. First off, it's not as touristy here in Ostia, so your chances of getting in one of those tourist traps are significantly lower. Secondly, this restaurant offers nice seashore vibe and ambiance on the other side of the spectrum for Roman cuisine. Come eat here if you like seafood.

We chose to eat at Povero Pesce, which seemed to get good reviews online, and especially on Yelp. We found out, as we tracked toward the location, that Povero Pesce no longer exists in Lido di Ostia, but has been replaced by Il Pesce di Ostia. No matter, still a fish-based menu, which is what we were looking for on the beach after a couple of weeks of going completely off our diets! We approached the restaurant and started questioning if it was inside the McDonalds next door, as we could see the M through the front patio window. Again, not to worry. This little place, a bit off the beaten path in Lido di Ostia, was a beautiful small sit-down restaurant of its own. Quaintly decorated of perhaps the Victorian era, the nice woman at the front of the house led us to a table. We were glad we got there at opening, as it the dining room was quite small, and by the time our meals were served, it was full. We like to find restaurants that haven't been "Americanized", and were rewarded here. They had an English menu, but nobody that we could find spoke English at all. Almost completely a fish menu, there was a daily special at each course. We had a bit of trouble understanding what these were because of the language barrier, but the server was very helpful, using her iPhone when necessary to show us the words :). This was one time that I felt self-conscious about not being able to speak their language a bit better (or at all), but they did not make us feel like we were imposing. We each ordered a starter, first course, and main, and each were very fresh and delectable. Mussels and calamari were prominent on the menu, and my husband and son loved every bite of the salads and pasta dishes containing these mollusks. I ordered sea bass for my main, and it was wonderful--moist, nicely roasted, with a lovely beurre blanc. The white wine was to my husband's liking, as well, and although the menu here was very small, they did seem to pay attention to providing fine local wine options. As usual, based on our experience in small Roman restaurants, dessert and espresso are always graciously offered. We found a different style of dessert in Lido di Ostia. Cheesecake and Tirimasu are always an option, but not what you expect. Each came in what I would consider to be a large bowl full of a creamy custard. The cheesecake offered a swirl of either chocolate or berries in syrup, with the graham crust sort of a chunk at the bottom of the bowl, covered with the creme anglais-type cheesecake. The Tirimasu was similar, with the lady fingers offered at the bottom of the bowl, and not soaked as a part of making the dish so that it was more like a crunchy crust rather than the moist layered cake-like experience I was expecting. While delicious (who doesn't love coffee or cheese-cake flavored cream?), they are definitely a shareable, unless you are ready to consume what must be an outrageous number of saturated fat calories! We had these similar desserts served at both the restaurants we sampled in Lido di Ostia. I mean, who isn't ready for a splurge when you are on your Italian vacay?
